The pledge of allegiance bit is one of the funniest moments in the show. Having the kids in the back row battle to say it the fastest and loudest shows you exactly what kind of nerds they are. Why are you trying to win at pledge of allegiance. Also Leaf breaking out into the national anthem made me laugh every time.

#the 25th annual putnam county spelling bee #25apcsb #my art #logainne schwartzandgrubenierre #chip tolentino #leaf coneybear #olive ostrovsky #william barfée #marcy park #I know the direction I took chip is not that obvious but trust me it makes perfect sense #chip’s personality is pretty linked to his own perceived masculinity (‘alpha male’ etc.) so cat’s is linked to her femininity #also white pants because she gets her first period during the bee and everyone sees </3 #I think she notices in the stands and doesn’t want to get up and then when she does the other spellers all see it before the audience does #(and they all react with varying levels of empathy)#the word she gets is smth like ‘crimson’ and part way through she turns so that the audience can see a very obvious red stain on her pants #and their ‘ohh no….’ reaction causes her to forget where she was up to and repeat a letter (and she gets eliminated)#I changed logainne’s name because too many of their names ended with an n #also logan is mostly a boys name while riley is used more for girls nowadays so he keeps schwartzy’s gnc swag #I considered sycamore as an alt name for olive cos oliver isn’t as whimsical (or plant based) as olive but idk #he would say to barf ‘did you know that the last 5 letters of sycamore spell amore which means love?’#ig it still works with ‘I‚ lover’ and then you get ‘well did you know that if you swap the first 2 vowels in lillian it would be. lillian.’#and yeah some of these designs are basically one-to-one copies of the new world stages cast sorryyyy I like them #I do actually really like this drawing like look at these sweeties <3

Of the Chip Tolentino guest speller ad libs this one was by far my favourite that I saw. Jahbril Cook had to stand there with an incredulous look on his face for so long while the audience lost their minds.

I wish I could see the show 100 times cos it was different every night #one night I was there olive pointed to a piece of confetti falling down and tried several times to grab it but missed every time #and just before it hit the floor barf tried to stomp it with his (magic) foot and also missed. truly an incredible move #they are always giggling and blushing in that scene they are so cutie patootie #also one night I was there when the other kids come in and make fun of them for hugging chip very loudly yelled KISS HER ON THE MOUTH!#oh phillipe arroyo chip… I have a lot to say about him everything he did was perfect #the first sung line of the whole show he comes out and you immediately know what’s happening #top button done up. backwards cap on head. braces and a slight lisp. awkwardly adjusting the crotch of his pants. truly everything to me #anyway i digress #olive and barf friendship is real 100 smiles 100 hugs 100 joy
