To everyone who uses simply plural please know that the app will be shutting down (please read their blog post https://apparyllis.com/simply-plural-will-be-discontinued/ )

What does this mean for systems who use simply plural? -> we must convert to a different / new app. Currently Octocon seems to be the only option for us which is not my favorite (mainly being that I do not like change and this is abrupt and overwhelming for me, as I’m sure it is others.)

There is another app not available on iOS called ampersand that one of my friends uses. It seems to be the better option from what i have seen, however I unfortunately have an iPhone so it is not an option for me.

Currently Octocon only allows 4 privacy buckets, which is not ideal for me as I have multiple private things that I don’t want others to see. I don’t want my friends having information my partner systems can have, and I don’t want strangers to see our programmed information. You also Cannot currently add images to descriptions as I’ve seen from my deep dive on the app this morning.

You CAN however import from simply plural, which transports over your custom fields, folders, alters/parts, and all the information in descriptions, custom fields, etc as well as profile pictures.

If anyone is aware of any other options please let me know, as in this past year I had only just started getting a hang of the simply plural workings (as I’ve been using it since 2021 but really only starting using it as a serious form of logging in 2024.)

Seeing a lot of immediate panic over sp being discontinued, and i would like to note, Amaryllis says they'll be keeping the app up as long as they can, and if the app ever will go down, we all will be given a warning prior to it.

Documentation

With the recent announcement about SimplyPlural winding down, a lot of people are looking to move their information elsewhere.

Different people will have different priorities when deciding where to put their system documentation. It's okay if you want to keep using online services to track your system if that's what works for you! (Please keep backups, though- I promise that losing all of your documentation when a service goes down is a bigger loss of time than keeping a local copy of it all.)

If you'd rather not shuffle your information from online service to online service in the future, then there are a lot of different ways to track who's in your system that don't depend on someone else's computer being kept on. We personally find art-based methods to be the most helpful for our group, but you might find that other methods work better for you. Try out a few different options and see what sticks!

Super happy he actually won the on the “RDR2 characters I should draw” poll, because I truly think he is incredibly underrated.

I think it’s usual that indigenous characters are underrepresented half the time, and although based on the Lakota tribe (I’m Diné)—when I first saw Eagle Flies and his father in RDR2–I felt overwhelmingly happy in how they portrayed fiction and accurate western and tribal conflict, not to mention the care they took to developing both Rain Falls and Eagle Flies.

Honestly when I think about it, Eagle Flies and Rain Falls played part in the reason why I have my OCs, which goes to show why indigenous representation is overall important, especially to Western video games and other forms of content :)

Like in the USA, queer british history is tied to black british history. Unlike the USA we never hear their names

It's black history month in the UK, but no child I know of has been taught about black queer history.

So join me in learning about it.

Learn about Pearl Alcock who set up the only gay bar in brixton at the time as a refuge for black gay men.

Ted Brown one of the organisers of the first UK pride rallys in 1974

Justin Fashanu the first openly gay footballer in 1990.

The fact that the UK GLF was inspired by the black panthers revolutionary convention in 1970.

Or Ivor Cummings "the gay father of the windrush generation"

How many more generations will be denied Black queer history before we take action?

When we understand that our history is diverse, it changes our outlook. I hope that this Black History Month, we all take the time to uncove

I'm sure there are 100s more names to go on this list, but I don't know them. I can't find them. Kinda the point if racism and homophobia tho isn't it? To hide the culture and history of black queer people, to make black queer people feel like their alone, feel like there was noone who came before to look up to and be seen by.

tbh i don’t think any aesthetic or fandom is inherently leftist. people will say “you can’t be goth/punk/emo/alt/whatever if you’re not a leftist!” and “how do conservative star trek fans exist?” and like. it’s simple. they’re literally just aesthetics and fandoms. there is nothing inherently leftist about dressing a certain way, or listening to certain music, or watching certain tv shows.

i think a lot of people want to believe that performing a certain aesthetic or being in a certain fandom makes you a better leftist, because they’re at least semi-aware that they aren’t doing enough. but instead of going out and trying to improve anything, they just reframe something they’re already doing as radical and leftist.

i think a big issue with the way politics are discussed on tumblr (and in online spaces in general, this isn’t just a tumblr problem!) is that there’s a lot of people who think that knowing the most buzzwords makes you the best leftist. they have a vague sense of how these terms can be applied, but they haven’t read about them in any context outside of tumblr posts.

people who’ve never read crenshaw are the ones claiming that “intersectionality” means centering men in discussions about feminism. people who’ve never read barthes are the ones claiming that “death of the author” means that they can keep on being a harry potter fan without thinking about how the author is harming trans people. there’s so many terms that have been twisted so far beyond their original meaning by social media users who saw someone use them in a smart-sounding post and thought they’d look smart too if they used the same terms.

i’ve seen it happen with “male gaze” and “cultural appropriation” and “internalized misogyny” and “lumpenproletariat” and “emotional labor” and so many other terms that people have played a game of telephone with. maybe we all ought to read a little more.
