âYou shouldnât feel like you have to take someone to the Ball. Itâs just fine to go by yourself.â
Wow, the ghetto? Well that gave her everything she needed to know. And it only got worse as he kept talking. âAre you serious? How can one place be that bad?â Living in danger is something she should be used to, but itâs not like sheâs got a certain bodyguard here with her. She tiredly sighed, âIâve, well⊠got a huge paper fan, but something tells me that wonât be of much use in an area like that. Are you there often? How many times have you run into danger there?â
âThe scientist tailored each area to be something. Sector Two is polluted and full of waste because itâs the Industrial Sector. Sector Five is essentially a giant marketplace. Sector Three happens to be the worst for crime out of them all.â He didnât know why he was explaining it in such detail. Honestly, he didnât care much about what happened to the girl. But when her question came, he sighed softly. âI used to take jobs to clear out drug dealer dens there. It did nothing to put a dent in how bad it was. You should be able to gather how bad it is just from that.â
   Tensing at the mention of her friend, she glanced away momentarily. âIâm not.â The scientists had returned her only a day or two ago, but they had placed her in an apartment and she had yet to go find Ryuko. In truth, she was nervous about seeing her again. Sheâd proved unreliable so many times, Rukia was starting to think that Ryuko was better off without her. âI wouldnât be surprised if sheâs still here, I just havenât seen her in a whileâŠâ She paused. âAnd you? Are you still in a hut?â Â
He noticed the tension, his jaw tightening slightly as he looked her over for a moment. That was a shame. At least she was in good hands with Ryuko. âOh.â Was all he offered. He felt no need to comfort her... or even to reach out to place his hand on her shoulder. It would probably just insult her somehow. And he wasnât the type to do anything like that. âNo, as much as Iâd prefer it... Iâm in Sector One now. Is...err... everything okay?â He really wasnât good at this.
@legacyoftheuchiha
âIs District Gamma a particularly dangerous place?â It was in Sector 3 where her apartment was located, so it was kind of important to know. Sheâd asked for directions from some random passersby and got some warnings, so she was more than a bit worried. And though this guy didnât look the friendliest, he might be able to give her more of a description on the area.
âThey call it the ghetto for a reason. Itâs not a place you want to be, especially at night. Calling it dangerous is an understatement, considering Sector Three is where much of the crime in the city originates.â He wasnât going to sugar coat it. There would be no point in doing so. Then heâd just be lying and he wasnât necessarily in the habit of doing that unless it somehow benefited him. âYouâd do well not to go there without a weapon. Or at least a friend who has one.â

who wants to thread with this asshole??? capping at 2.
   âIâm not telling you to stop, Mr. One track mind. Iâm telling you to take a break. Just for one solitary minute and enjoy some sort of beauty. And you donât at all know me, I spend every night protecting who I can here and Iâd love for nothing more than to go home, but guess what? Iâm not entirely sure there is a way. So I do what I can and I make it worth it and I try to not sink into depression thinking about why Iâm here or how I canât get home or spend all of two holidays passing me by with my dad or my friends.â Her expression changed, eyebrows knit tight as she glared at him.Â
   âAnd death always matters! It doesnât matter if you come back. Itâs still death. And believe me Iâve had plenty of people die on me and then come back. So donât even joke about that.âÂ
âBy telling me to take a break, youâre telling me to stop. Iâm not interested in your concern or your advice. Give it to somebody who needs or wants it. And youâre mistaken if you think I care about your hobbies. Play vigilante or whatever all you want. And no. Here, death doesnât matter. You get back up and you might be a little sore but in the end?â He trailed off, shrugging his shoulders, âPaint all the delusions that you want.â
      ââă  â
       â  ⊠ iâve got no clue, but if itâs pissinâ you off, thatâs good enough for me.  â
âNobody asked you. I bet youâve already helped somebody put their decorations up. And Iâm not pissed, I just donât see the point. So, apparently itâs not good enough for you.â
   âWell, someoneâs kind of full of himself. Yikes, you have got to tone down that âcool kid gives no shitsâ attitude. Itâs cool and all, but it wonât get you much in the long run. Believe me, I know people like that. TheyâŠdonât make it.â She sighed. âIâm not trying to make you want to join. Iâm just explaining a different point of view. Shocking, I know. But one thing might not mean something to you, but to someone else it means the entire world. And if you donât take the time to have at least some fun youâll burn yourself out fast. Burnt out people donât make for good escape plans.â
âYouâre better off worrying more about yourself. I donât waste my time with âfunâ things because they donât do anything for me. If you donât like it, walk away. But Iâm not going to stop trying to get out of this city just because some stranger off the street tells me to stop. I donât have much of a reason to be here. Iâve been in this city for too long and thereâs nothing here for me. I donât expect someone whoâs so engaged in their distractions to understand that. Besides, death doesnât matter in this city. When you die, you come back. Iâll work myself as hard as I want to.â
   âA couple of weeks.â She gives a short laugh. âObviously youâre not familiar with the vast amounts of people who end up keeping those lights up until just about spring. But, well, thatâs not exactly the point. Itâs not that their lives are that miserable. Itâs just a fun thing to do. Since when did fun actually have to make sense? Iâm going to go out on a limb here and say youâre not the fun having type, though. Iâd say it helps in most cases. Plus, if you do it with friends itâs not so much a hassle.â
âLike any of that matters. Some of us donât have time for âfunâ and are too busy looking for a way out of this city. Play âhouseâ all you want, it doesnât make any difference to me. Just donât waste your time by trying to make me understand or want to join in the âfestivitiesâ.â
   âItâs actually not that important, to be honest. The holiday kind of branched out in terms of what it was actually for, but thatâs a huge debate in itself. Bottom line is, itâs important because itâs fun and helps us have a moment in our lives where we can forget all the bad things. And the music is so awful it comes full circle into being kind of fun.â
âSeems like more of a hassle than itâs worth to me. Going through all that work to put up decorations for a couple weeks then having to take them down? I donât see the point in it, even if it does make people âhappyâ for a short time. If their lives are so miserable that they have to put up pointless things like that, putting up decorations isnât going to help much.â
âSo why is putting up stupid multi-colored lights and decorating trees so important to this holiday? And the music is awful despite it being everywhere.â
   âTch, hardly.â So much for that. She wasnât ready to outright admit it yet, but it was definitely nice seeing his face again.  âCracking jokes, though? Looks like the time away did you some good.â Though she hoped it was true, there was no way of her knowing. For some reason, she felt as if she were walking on eggshells. As if some offhanded comment would turn the conversation from something light, and pleasant to something else. Thoughts replayed, over and over in her mind, her Captain coming undone. Her Captain sacrificing himself. Her Captain gone. It played over and over again in her head, like a video on a loop that she could not pause.
   She stopped.Â
   âOr maybe you just missed me,â she teased.
âNo.â His time away did nothing. Literally. Hardly any time passed. He remembered falling in battle. He could feel the cold embrace of death. A white flash, as though he might get his second wind. Or maybe he was just dying. All he knew was that his pain was going away before he was taken away. And that was something he didnât want to think about.
âYou wish.â A pause. âAre you still at Ryukoâs...? Is she even still here?â
{ @legacyoftheuchiha }
        âNo.. It couldnât beâŠâ
   Sakuraâs eyes widened, it was like seeing a ghost. Why was he here? She didnât want to see him⊠Maybe if she hid behind something he wouldnât even notice her- not that he ever really did to begin with. âJEEZ. Sakura, you need to stop thinkinâ like that! This guy isnât worth your time.âÂ
   And although her head was telling her to be strong and stand her ground.. Her heart was a different matter. She could feel it beating wildly with rage, pounding the walls of her chest. âS-Sasââ Her throat felt dry, the words werenât coming out right. âThis is all wrong!! This isnât how I wanted our next meeting to goâŠâ
   Was it too late to run away? No. Nope. It definitely wasnât! Sakura finally forced her body into action, although the ravenette was practically walking in her direct path now, that didnât matter. Nope! Sheâd deny that she even saw him. Sakura turned on her heels and began walking the other way.. Although this whole confrontation was making her head feel lightâŠÂ âOh no..â She whispered before feeling herself collapse to the ground.
   The high stress of the situation made her body go into shock. âDammit Sakura.. The one time you couldâve looked cool and walked the other way..â She closed her eyes, not even wanting to think about what would happen next. At this point, sheâd rather just lay there and die.
The days that he had spent back in this place were days that he was angry about. He hadnât seen anyone that he recognized. Rukia hadnât been there, having even disappeared out of his phone. Which meant only that she was no longer in the city. And he hadnât managed to see Sakura yet... until he caught a glimpse of pink hair in the crowd.
But she was... walking away from him? His brow furrowed softly, something didnât feel quite right. Sasukeâs jaw tightened slightly and part of him just wanted to let her walk away... that was, until she collapsed onto the ground. Then he moved forward at a brisk pace, moving to stand in front of her.
âSakura...? Is everything alright?â He asked, looking down at her warily. She looked different. Older, even. That feeling in the pit of his stomach providing him with little comfort. But despite this, he reached his hand out for her in an offer to help her up.
âWhy were you walking away?â Not that he had made any effort to go after her until he saw her fall. But heâd seen her eyes locked onto him for a moment. He didnât want to believe what his gut was telling him, but he wasnât sure how he could avoid it unless he spoke to her. It would most likely be just one more thing he was tired of about coming back.
â...Idiots.â
@legacyoftheuchihaâ
   That spike of hair was unmistakable, and she did not hesitate to approach him. She was unsure of how to feel about this. It felt selfish to be glad that a friend of hers had returned, but here she was feeling happy about seeing him again. âTheyâve brought you back.â
â...Yeah. Iâm back.â He wasnât too happy about it. Not happy at all, in fact. But seeing that she was here... well, he had to admit that it alleviated the anger just a little bit. At least it meant there was one bearable person still in the city. âMiss me?â He asked dully, not really expecting the answer to be yes.
âThat sort of pragmatism will only wear you down. Youâre young so you think yourself invincible, but how long can that sort of outlook serve you? âBetter to have lost and loved than to have never loved at all.â Ah, but agree to disagree.â
âNone of that matters here. We go back home and forget everything that happened. None of the people we meet here matter. Thereâs a chance weâre brought back but you just go through the same motions then. My only friends that I had before are gone now. All I have here is my brother and my former teacher and they have better things to do than deal with me.â
âSo donât try to convince me that anything I do here for anyone matters. Itâll all be forgotten when we all inevitably return home at some point.â
   âItâs not naive tâ hope for thâ best in people, anâ even if it is, whatâs wrong with that? Even so, I donât expect anythinâ from anybody! But if youâre gonna talk about how much you donât care about anyone but yourself, yâ shouldnât be so surprised if someone like me takes issue with it! Especially not when Iâm specifically lookinâ for a way tâ make money that donât involve anythinâ unpleasant!âÂ
âEverythingâs unpleasant. And not everyone does everything with the best intentions. Youâre just setting yourself up for a big letdown with hoping for the best. Why donât you go work for one of the stupid maid cafes or something?â He let out a sigh, turning his back to her slowly. âAnyway, Iâm leaving. Maybe if youâre lucky, we wonât have to see each other again.â
