when we were younger and free
The man turns his head when the blaring horns sound, brows knitting tightly when the commotion was all for him. Whether he was to run or not was up to the next course of actions the man was to display.. “Excusi…?” A hooded man who was supposed to be hidden from the crowd was easily spotted, a hand lifted to dismiss the incident to those watching.
“Signore, I cannot repeat something I do not know.”
Ensured that everyone was alright he would turn his attention fully for him, reaching up to pull his hood down. “I think you’re confused or perhaps I don’t remember..It has been awhile since I’ve made presence here, that I can assure you.” Brown eyes looked over him, Ezio trying his best to recall who he was. But something wasn’t clicking.
“But I can tell you that you indeed jumped, Signore.”
All it took was a handful of polite words for him to realize that the Ezio he knew was gone; the confusion in this man’s eyes was that of a stranger, and his good humor evaporated in an instant. Jarred by the revelation, he openly stared at Ezio--and cleared his throat as a means of stalling. Gathered in that moment, he flashed a pleasant smile and quipped, “Fine. You caught me. So I startled. Who wouldn’t? Those damned vehicles have no business being that loud.”
Start over, he thought. Sad, yes, but perhaps a new beginning suited them better. He’d play the part, be the obnoxious fellow who just so happened to fancy the way Ezio dressed or whatever. Something caught his eye, but he would never have to say what. No need to confess.
“Might you know more about them than me? I hear they’re the best way of getting around, but Maker knows you’d never get me inside one.”
