The fall from that cliff should have KILLED him . For the entire walk back to the motel he was sure that it HAD - that he wouldn’t last beyond the next hour . But he was stubborn [...] && so was Karter . So here he was , still hanging on - bruised from head to toe in the hospital bed , but STILL here . Deep down inside of his heart he knew that it wasn’t MEDICINE that had brought him back ; not that he’ll SHARE that with Karter , knowing that he’s not the kind of man to have a firm GRASP on the faith that Sam held inside of him .

He’s still out of it , mostly NUMB ; pain seeping in around the edges . He tries his best to swallow - hand inching across the sheets toward Karter’s hand , seeking out that warm touch . He’s yet to actually NOTICE the ring on his finger , more focused on reassuring his partner . ❝ I love you too ❞ he breathes . The words CRACK && rustle , his throat sore from the tube that had been pushed down it to keep him BREATHING while his lungs were trying to fill with blood . It sounds weak && HORRIBLE . Sam winces && coughs lightly , clutching at Karter as though he might slip away again . ❝ gotta keep you on your toes with [...] ❞ he coughs a little harder , pain SLASHING through his ribs . ❝ [...] with a near death experience , every now && again , huh ?? ❞

The suit , ( most likely STOLEN ) fits him almost PERFECTLY && he pulls gently at the shoulders as he moves FLUIDLY through the crowds of the function && toward the open bar . He doesn’t order a drink , but leans his elbows down on the COUNTER top as he watches the bartender work on a couple of glasses of champagne . After a moment his gaze is drawn STEADILY to the woman perched a couple of seats down && he pauses . Brow lowers . He moves himself across until he’s right next to her . ❝ Boa tarde , linda senhora ❞ he says softly , watching her side profile carefully . ❝ excuse me If I’m wrong , but you don’t SEEM like the kind of lady that frequents antique collections , or the collectors PARTIES for that matter ?? ❞

He didn’t hurt you right ?? ❞ He glances in the direction of the alley to which the mugger had fled . SURE it had been SAM that he was plucking the wallet off of [...] but he’d given the other person quite a SHOVE in the process .
