Rock band Foreign Girls is back... and with a heavily pop influenced single titled “Shut Up and Dance”

The ringing guitar that kicks off "Shut Up and Dance" could have been copped from any landscape rock group of the 90s easily, but it is not long until the melodic vocal delivery kicks in. A hand clapping beat helps the song keep building and in less than a minute "Shut Up and Dance" breaks into a chorus that will make pop fans smile. The overall sound reaches back to the 80s power pop of bands- one very different sounding from their past work. It’s tighter and if it one thing it’s one hundred percent a brighter and more radio appealing song for the band. Time is going to tell whether Foreign Girls'"Shut Up and Dance" is the isolated power pop hit, or it as at the beginning of a wave moving on to the mainstream pop charts. For now, simply enjoy, dance and sing along.

Amazon Prime announces new show “The Boys” featuring a star-studded cast.

“How do you spank a superhero?” Amazon just released the premiere date and new teasers for their upcoming TV show, The Boys.

Based on the comic by Garth Ennis, the superhero drama “is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good.” The cast includes Erin LaFleur, Miles Lapointe and Elliot Moore all of which have main and prominent roles throughout the series. More casting announcements will follow this one.

The eight-episode Amazon Prime Video original series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film.

KYLIE BLUE REVEALS MASSIVE 1989 WORLD TOUR

Kylie Blue’s 2021 calendar has just filled up. Fresh off the majorly successful release of her new album 1989 the singer has unveiled plans for a giant world tour that’ll keep her on the road for the first half of next year.

The massive trek kicks off January 5th at Tokyo’s Tokyo Dome- which is the largest asian venue Kylie has ever played and will work its way into North America until late-January, when Blue will head off to Europe for seven dates across the Atlantic. She’ll return to North America on February 8th for a gig at Ottawa’s Canadian Tire Centre, at which point she’ll play North American stadiums and arenas up until a leg-ending April 25th gig at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. The tour wraps up exactly a month later with two stadium shows in Melbourne Australia.

In addition to the dates, Blue announced three opening acts who will play variously across the tour. The acts include her noted BFF and one of todays hottest acts, Olivia Marie. Up an coming pop sensation, Winnie Kane and “New Problems” singer, Tyler August. It’s shaping up to be quite the event, have you gotten your tickets yet?

We’ve heard about lot’s of buzz surrounding young up and comer, Naya Parsons and now her debut single is here.

“Issues” is a offbeat pop ballad produced by Naya’s boyfriend and pop sensation, Quinton Harper. The vocal delivery is strong and we find ourselves questioning why she has been hiding in the studio all this time. Unlike many other debutants, Parsons hasn’t pushed anything on us that we probably don’t want from her. It’s not a song chasing her female contemporaries. Instead, it’s a very ‘Naya Parsons’ song with the focus entirely on songwriting and delivering it properly instead of loading it with bipolar production. There’s something effortless about her voice. It flows softly from one lyric to the next, yet it’s incredibly precise – hitting notes a whole scale away from the last in the matter of a second. It’s in a wheelhouse of its own. She is a rarity in the industry, and she will only rise from here. Whether it is behind the scenes or on the surface.

Essence Woods has released her lates single, “Royals”.

The track is sparse but ironically the lack of production causes the song to be a much bigger standout that most or all of her prior works. Only a spare drumbeat and finger snaps accompany her layered harmonies. The flow of the lyrics and her voice drive the beat, skipping over the list of rejected brands and soaring over the "We'll never be royals" chorus. The song is addictive; try not to listen to it over and over again. We’re a little thrown off by the brand and message of the song (the lyrics reject almost everything Essence is known for) but it’s forgivable when delivered in such a way. It’s captivating enough to be a mainstay, and lyrical enough to evoke emotion from listeners- it’s a hit out of the ball park.

Winnie Kane’s latest single release, “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” has hit airwaves and here are our thoughts.

The song is layered with pop, country, and orchestral sounds, creating an urgent and foreboding texture that leaves the listener on edge. The chorus of “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” will be stuck in listeners’ heads for days or even weeks, a tumbling declaration of life’s hurdles that feels both melancholy and triumphant in the face of lost love. The country influence is modernized in a way designed for mass appeal, it’s a textbook and instantly recognizable melody- yet it works so well and succeeds at coming across as fresh and different. For too long pop music has been about following trends but here, this is Winnie’s attempt at setting them and the effect is felt.

What’s most interesting about this release is to see where things go next.

Nevaeh joins us in the Legends Lounge this week to do a cover of Maxwell Harpers “Falling” | 11/16

Maxwell Harper has put forth his second solo single effort with the laid back yet eclectic release of his latest single “Lights Up”.

Packed with organic flourishes, guitars galore, gorgeous piano notes scattered over the track, which is just under three minutes long. It’s the kind of well-tailored and thought out pop music the genre is currently lacking. The lyrics present themselves as personal and beautiful as on his previous solo album. They speak to the feeling of finally being free and figuring out one’s identity. It positions itself as a kind of psychedelic pop through it’s three main verses, which become instant ear-worms by the time you hit the two minute mark. It’s a different sound for Harper, but is clearly a welcomed one, as the fan reaction has been nothing short of pure enjoyment. It’s jarring, it’s memorable and it’s a fusion of sounds delivered beautifully. But what else did you expect?

It’ll be intriguing to see where the sound goes for the remainder of Maxwell’s releases. “Lights Up” has presented us with a completely new sound, an intriguing one.

Ever since debut some short months ago, Carter Blue has been tearing up the charts with “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”, does his most recent and first solo single “Mirrors” live up to its predecessor?

Our verdict is.... yes. The track is classic, yet modern enough to transcend itself onto pop airwaves. Some may be in for a loop at the glistening and grand production, but it supports the notion of the feelings Carter is pouring out here, for a very lucky lady. The song speaks of love in the most universal terms, which makes it that much more relatable for all audiences- the melodies catchy enough to be stuck in your head and the chorus large enough for a stadium wide sing along moment. We may be getting ahead of ourselves with the stadium thing but you get the idea here. Carter is two songs in and has pushed out two completely different vibes and avenues of artistic expression, and we are thirsting for more.
