“Hey, I’m definitely not judging you,” she assured, having noticed the look of embarrassment on the other woman’s face. “The Bay Area likes to play tricks on us all and there’s not a whole lot we can do about it. So, cursing the weather seems totally reasonable.”
“yo, you —” he points, “yeah, i’m talkin’ to you. you look like you could do me a favor real quick.” he waves his hand, flags them down with them ‘c’mon’ motion as he rubs his hands together all too readily. before them is one of those blow-up jungle gyms, slides and walls galore. “i need a partner for this obstacle course. you don’t got any knee problems, right??”

Leila’s brows had shot up the moment she realized she actually hadn’t been mistaken to think someone had addressed her. “I do?” are the first words to escape her lips as her head tilts to the side. She ponders for a moment. “No knee problems as far as I’m aware of. Can’t say I’m all that well-versed in obstacle courses, though. You’re willing to take the risk?”

leila was born in new york city to an iranian father and a spanish-iranian mother, both of whom had emigrated to the united states in the mid 1970s. they were both involved in the city’s punk scene and met that way. leila and her twin brother reza were born in 1982, two years after their parents got married. she also has a younger sister and three foster siblings.
her mother is a social worker while her father works in community development. leila actually planned on following her parents’ footsteps but ended up falling in love with problem-solving and programming in high school. she went on to get her bachelors and masters degree in electrical engineering from uc berkeley. she moved to san francisco after graduating.
she worked for a few different tech companies for the better part of ten years before landing her current job with a startup some of her old college buddies had launched. she basically works to develop accessibility software for different companies.
was actually engaged to be married between the ages of 25 and 28. it simply didn’t work out.
volunteers as a mentor to a teenage girl in foster care and teaches coding to local youngsters. leila genuinely adores children and would love to either foster or adopt in the near-ish future.
