Any tips or tut for grayscale? :3
i love how everyone is asking you like you are some kind of teacher for us lol
Hmmm this is all things I apply personally but it all depends on the results you want to achieve and your art style! Idk if I'm a good teacher but I hope my advices are helping even if it's a little bit xoxo
1 - I don't ever use the air brush! I like my art a bit textured and the air brush tends to smooth is all out
2 - same for the smudge tool; again this is all my personal tastes but instead of bluring my shadows and lights where I want to, I use intermediate greys and do all my gradiants manually with the paint brush instead of the smudge brush!
3 - I work with a large brush and as few brush strokes as possible! And I try not to zoom in too much, in the beginning at least. I work the entire drawing as a whole first and a large brush allows me not to linger too much on the little details! One big stroke for a shadow is better than tens of tiny strokes that can make it all seem a bit rigid imo. It's the same principle as people ecouraging one line instead of chicken scratches!
4 - don't be scared of constrast! If you're too scared to put contrast the final piece can feel flat and it might not translate great when you put colors above it! Even on the face. I'm sometimes scared to add shadows on the face but that's what make it feel real and tangible
5 - I'm repeating myself but if you want to draw characters then learning the human anatomy is a must! If you know where to put your shadows and lights, all the work is almost done!
6 - shadows have sharp and blurry edges depending on where the light hit and varying between the two also improve the whole feel of the piece! There's ton of videos that explain it better than I could ever could on yt!
There you go, idk if that was helpful at all but welp lol
Hello Nu !
I wanted to ask, your art is sooo comforting and quiet, clearly it's one of my biggest inspiration in my art journey.. (made me love jovier too 🤭) i think what impresse me the most are your AMAZING anatomy style, and oh your colors.. they're always according to the mood and the interactions between the characters, do you have any advice on how you colors ?
Thankyou so so much ! Merci pour tes magnifiques travaux !
Hiii! Omg I'm so glad I could convert you to Jovier hehehehe
Thank you so much! For the colors I first work in grayscale, using a big brush at first to lay the shadows and working my way to the details with smaller and smaller brushes. I finish with highlights and bam the gryascale is done!
Then I play around with gradiant maps and curves to color the whole things! Honestly I don't think too much about color theory, mostly I'm just vibing and playing with the curves and gradiants maps will almost make palettes appear on their own lol (i'm a lazy artist) sometimes I'll select one element one by one (javier's skin for exemple, then his hair, then john's skin, etc) to color them on their own (still with gradiants maps and curves) but most of the time I work the whole thing in one time and that gives me more ambiant color palettes idk
I really like looking at other's people art whose colours I like to take inspo of course!
Below is the speedpaint of on of my fanart, idk if that could help you visualize how I work!
Ermm uuuuh Idk if my explanations were clear enough but I hope I was able to help a lil
Some John doodles, i just LOVE drawing him, his design, his vibe, his aura, his strabism
Now on tumblr ! Hello everyone this is Leimiruu, my only acc !
