the spellplague & spellscars. the blue breath of change was a disaster that struck the planes of existences, and it was caused by mystra's assassination at the hands of cyric and shar. it continued for an entire decade, leading to the wailing years, during which arcane magic ceased to function and the planet of toril was transformed.
sehanine moonbow. sehanine moonbow, also called daughter of the night skies, goddess of moonlight, the lunar lady, moonlit mystery, the mystic seer, the luminous cloud, and lady of dreams was an elven goddess of death, dreams, heavens, journeys, the moon (full moon to be precise), moon elves, stars, and transcendence; she is also one of the most powerful members of the seldarine. she is the protector of the trysts of lovers, oftentimes those who work in secrecy would ask for her blessing to guide the moonlight away from their actions.

previously an orphan from baldur's gate, leitha meets a young houseless girl in the sewers of the lower city. when venturing to meet nine fingers and the rest of the guild, they travel in the areas surrounding their hideout, where they had noticed a half elven girl following them throughout. before they were able to speak with her, they were attacked by bhaalists, where leitha subsequently saves the girls life before they are able to kidnap her. when they camp that night in the sewers, the girl tentatively (with much convincing on leitha's end) joins their camp. though cautious due to orin's infiltration, the young girl easily wins over leitha's heart through her quirky and mainly silent personality. she had firstly spoke in broken common and brandished a singular dagger though in due time, not only does the girl tell leitha her true name, leitha considers the girl their own after the destruction of the netherbrain. ahkeka eventually goes to live with the rest of lei's family in durmista, hidden in the forest of cloakwood.
ย ย โคท modern day. connected to the caged girls case, leitha finds ahkeka in an abandoned warehouse in the middle of one of their most highly intensive and popularized investigations. the child had escaped and been presumed dead by her captors, and had been living alone for the few weeks before being found. not wanting her to go into the system, taken/deported by the police, or found and killed by the traffickers, leitha took her in, in secret. when the offenders were apprehended, leitha formally adopted ahkeka, officially becoming apart of the min dynasty. when it becomes finalized, leitha takes fully takes two years off of work as a new parent, and they live together in their central 17 apartment.

โคท one hundred (18), they/he, trans man, asexual. leitha's first love.
once a drow cleric dedicated to the worship of the raven queen, zyn was tasked with protecting olinora, a small city-state hidden deep within the underdark. on the outskirts of olinora was an ancient temple that had become descreated by various forms of undead, killing many of the cleric and priestess' that had resided within. leitha had met zyn here, the only surviving cleric, and together, they rid the temple of undead presences. after reclaiming and consecrating the temple once more, zyn and leitha travel together and he becomes their companion during their time in the underdark. during this time, they became first loves, now romantic partners. after some time and their further aid in rebuilding this ancient underdark temple, they were blessed both in the eyes of the raven queen and sehanine. their succeeding goddess' had blessed and consecrated their relationship, which had then technically considered them to be married.
olinora was not only constantly under attack by surrounding lolth-sworn drow communities, but also from the sweeping blows of the spellplague. in a last standing battle, the spellplague bounded various rifts around the temple, enemies and monsters alike pouring out and surrounding them. zyn, in a desperate attempt to save leitha, is pulled into the underchasm, closing the main rift onto leitha's outstretched hand. leitha now plaguechanged, the twins safe, and zyn lost to the underchasm forever.
ย ย โคท modern day. zyn, apart of the liberation army in chongqing, china, was tasked with protecting han yena, the last remaining direct descendant of the afro-korean han clan from the joseon dynasty. leitha had visited china during their early years, before they moved to the united states. they had become extremely close, leitha asking zyn to train them with various weapons and hand-to-hand combat. a few years after zak and zeb (han yena's twin babies) were born, the camp was found out and invaded. both yena and zyn died in the incident and entrusted the twins to leitha's care.
identical twin, head son, and heir to a now lost afro-korean elite clan destroyed during the joseon dynasty. most history of their existence has been erased during the japanese imperial takeover, then later through korean's colonial identity. once a clan of yangban status permitted into civil and military service that later became a house of scholars and intellectuals, they were the ethical conscience of society at this time. han yena was the last remaining direct family descendant of this clan, her family escaping during the korean war under the protected guidance of soldiers within the liberation army headquarters of chongqing, china. there, she became pregnant with twins, and recently of age zyn was tasked in protecting the coming newborns. a few years after they were born, the camp was found out and invaded. both yena and zyn died in the incident and entrusted the twins to leitha's care.
traveling back to jeju with the twins, leitha convinced their father to take in the children as his own. he officially adopted them into the min clan, stating for the record that they were his biological children (born outside of his marriage) to ensure that leitha's reputation wasn't tarnished entering chaebol society. since, leitha and zak have had a tumultuous relationship because leitha will not speak about what happened that day, or the little they know about his family and mother (and certainly not about their relationship with zyn). into their adulthood, zak has convinced leitha to allow him to work with them and flex his tech skills in the states, though leitha remains ever secretive and protective.
ย ย โคท current day. as leitha travels throughout the states and leaves overseas for their work, zak provides any and all support for technical logistics. this includes in-room delivery, de-crating, and professional setup to ensure immediate operational readiness in each home-base location leitha moves into. he handles repairs, refurbishments, and maintenance for all tech, securing transports, and providing IT services. if leitha needs access to surveillance cameras, a new phone/burner/secure line, to view people's emails, phone calls, and texts, to see someone's government and/or police filesโ zak is the genius behind the screens. he rarely is working in person, but when he is, he can often be found in the main office in new york. he'll stay at leitha's high rise apartment, or continue living in jeju, korea as he is still well connected to the min dynasty and works closely with the dealings of their father.
โฆ : โโโโโโ ๐๐๐'๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ , THE SOCIALITE.
โคท twenty, she/her, trans female, bisexual. leitha's adopted sister.
for more information on zeb, read through zak's description, as the twins share the same story and fate. however, leitha and zeb have always been incredibly close, which has become the main reason leitha has refused to allow zeb to work on many of their cases. though, zeb is not only the social flower of the min family, she has used that to her advantage to make numerous high-leveled connections across the globe. any question that leitha has of a power individual that may be involved with one of their cases, they will ask zeb for her help. this has also included receiving an invite to a special and/or specific event, as well as giving leitha possible contacts to get into countries (any place) undetected.
ย ย โคท current day. zeb is a prominent figure in elite circles, holding immense influence through her network that has been created through the min's family chaebol status. she cultivates social influence and oftentimes organizes charitable events to do such, and will host extravagant gatherings and galas in new york. this is to cover her tracks when aiding leitha with a case, as to give a reason why they would be in the same city at the same time.

ย ย โคท modern day. following in his father's footsteps, john quickly rises through the ranks of the police force and eventually becomes the police chief after the death of his father. the death devolves into a murder case, where john becomes the prime suspect, and after years of not speaking or seeing each other, he shows up in person at starlight investigations. in desperation, he asks leitha for help to solve the case, and during this time, they reconnect through their inevitable partnership. afterwards, john does not leave his marriage or job, and continues to live as he normally would. though as payment for leitha's help and eventual solving of the case, they regularly use john's government position and power to aid their future cases, now getting access to police files and resources. their relationship slowly recovers and heals, though the resentment that has festered from leitha is still harbored for many years to come.
the main act in king's city carnival, the woman who walked on knives. jadeh, born the middle child of an ever growing family, was sold off into the carny life at six years old to mister jamish. she was already an excellent pick pocket, and used her dimpled smile to her advantage; that's how her family scrapped by, with the coins and rare bills her and her siblings would slip from tourist pockets, and make a dime off of their busking. with dancing, singing, and the occasional card magic trick, it made her the perfect mark to be molded into the carnival's best selling act. to stand on the handle of daggers for an audience, and be at the personal beck and call of mister jamish. she would perform for most of her life, being tied up on spinning wheels while mister jamish threw knives between her limbs, and walk atop a tightrope on pointed feet. that was until one fateful day, where leitha stumbled upon king's city.
a known wealthy socialite, leitha quickly became apart of that night's act, and jadeh took this distraction to begin her plan: burn the carnival down, with everyone, and herself, in it. though seeing leitha jump into action, not only saving most of the audience but jadeh herself,
ย ย โคท modern day. after being rescued by leitha, jadeh spends most of her time in leitha's apartment or office. she refuses to go back to carney life, and enjoys leitha's home as her own, living day-to-day now imbedded into starlight investigations. at the end of the day, leitha doesn't kick her out or tell her no, in fact, both are unsure if they ever agreed or spoke about this arrangement. but they continue living together, and slowly but surely, leitha asks jadeh to use her skills in grifting more and more on their cases. leitha goes as far as inviting her to go on the cases where lei has to travel, venturing to different states and sometimes across the globe to investigate.
jadeh is a confidence artist, swindler and scammer: she uses her words and charm to maneuver through situations and get information rather than any brute force. she is a master manipulator, using deception and distraction, and leitha believes jadeh can trick anyone into willingly giving up anything she wants. she is the perfect addition to starlight investigations, and over the time spent, quickly becomes leitha's most trusted confidant. they are both liars, but somehow, they only ever speak in truths with each other. jadeh is the only person leitha has even met in their adult life that they can not only tell the full truth to, but that they find themselves so often doing, as jadeh will only ever support everything leitha does.
love aura: pink. the elusive pink aura that signifies a pure loving energy. pinks truly believe in the unequivocal good of others and in humanity. they can come across as superficial simply because they do enjoy looking nice, being attractive and seeking beautiful things to surround themselves with. they just love to see the beauty of the world consistently encompassing them. pinks are very prone to being misconstrued. but theyโre loyal friends and they choose consistently beyond the harsh โrealityโ that there is good and beauty around us and in being that way, by being the eternal optimist; they keep that light burning for the rest of us to keep that same hope alive.
song: notion by the rare occasions. the speaker is talking about death and what comes after, describing what should motivate us in life. the question is asked, if life would matter if you could make it last forward, the answer is the refrain "sure it's a comforting notion, perpetual in motion". the perpetual motion refers to eternal life, and though there will be momentary triumphs among your troubles, there is no possibility of eternal bliss. immortal life is unattainable and nothing more than a comforting lie.

leitha can literally make money which is why it's never a problem for them during their journey . by the events of bg3, they can be recruited at level 12 which means they have :
and as a lvl 12 wizard, they have the spells: creation & fabricate . this means they can not only create precious metals, they can also mold and mint gold coins to fit the time and place they are currently in.
-> CREATION: level 5, illusion, V/S/M, special duration
you pull wisps of shadow material from the shadowfell to create a nonliving object of vegetable matter within range - soft goods, rope, wood, or something similar. you can also use this spell to create mineral objects such as stone, crystal, or metal. the object created must be no larger than a 5-foot cube, and the object must be of a form and material that you have seen before.
the duration depends on the object's material. if the object is composed of multiple materials, use the shortest duration.
you convert raw materials into products of the same material. for example, you can fabricate a wooden bridge from a clump of trees, a rope form a patch of hemp, and clothes from flax or wool.
choose raw materials that yu can see within range. if you are working metal, stone, or another mineral substance, however, the fabricated object can be no larger than Medium (contained within a single 5-foot cube). the quality of objects made by the spell is commensurate with the quality of the raw materials.
so, it would go something like this:
cast creation twice; it produces gold bars that occupy a 10-foot cube space
arcane recovery; rest and retrieve one 5th level spell back
cast creation once more; it produces gold bars that occupy another 5-foot cube space
cast fabricate three times; it changes these gold bars into fully minted gold coins
this means in about 5 hours, they can create around 715,500 gold pieces . if they rested (4 hour trance) to receive all their spells back, they can do this entire process twice a day; meaning one entire day of downtime will create around: 1,431,000 gold pieces.
a very sleepy note . it is extremely easy to mistake lei for being a drow, considering many moon elves are not as . literally purple and blue as she is . her skin basically reflects the moonlight bouncing off of things, mainly in the dark / dim lightning they will appear a lot darker and true to their actual tone than they will in direct sunlight - which they become more opaque and washed out, looking closer to mixed greys . and given general ignorance , many would look at her and automatically consider them a drow . especially since knowledge on different elf subraces is not as common, and they are not from faerun/toril and spent more time in the feywild / a divine realm - thus they already look a bit . . . off .
something difficult about being in ANY sort of positive relationship (friendship, platonic, familial, romantic, etc) with lei is that they will ask, plead, manipulate / deceive / wear down, and almost beg the other person to pursue life longevity in any way . death is an option for greatness, to be remembered from how you were resurrected or returned from it, not about how it claimed you . thus her most looming and prevalent goal is to achieve immortality and become ageless, or at least have the ability to revert aging if not time itself .
they have studied transmutation magic for this very purpose, though it wouldnโt be lei if not pushing magic to the very brink . achieving godhood is not relevant to their goals , but becoming a lich gets them a lot closer to what they want much faster . it would be rather easy for lei to eventually acquire lichdom, for the only two things necessary is to :
craft a phylactery and imbue it with the power to contain the beneficiary's soul
concoct a potion of transformation that turns the beneficiary into a lich
it is about a willingness to embrace death (or rather, undeath) in order for a mere chance at living forever . the two problems that stand in their way is that, the ritual will most likely bend her "alignment" to evil-aligned & over the years of being undead, they will most likely lose their humanity and personality/person hood . obviously, this doesn't make the process worth it at all, concluding that lei will do ANYTHING to get as close as possible without taking that last step because it will mean losing herself . and they would rather accept death than lose that progress / development, though that doesn't mean not putting up a fight all the way until the end(?)
oh hey i think i can make use of the fact that lei actually deeply fears the underdark & has mixed feelings on drows, illithid (mindflayers), and other undead that live there
on the flip side . they have a deep distrust for sun elves & those that worship corellon. headcanon lore that the union between him and sehanine was forced , and that the lunar lady later had a better understanding and deeper connection with lolth after dealing with corellon -- he wanted to control the moon and use it as a dichotomy & pairing to the sun which is in no way how sehanine works. he let her believe they would be united against the undead, falling in line more with the raven queen - united against orcus & vecna. sehanine protects her own, guiding groups of elven refugees into secret hideaways in the forests, allowing the moonlight to guide them to safety from war and violence against elves โ the sun is the literal enemy when she does this, because it acts like a spotlight on her people which she doesnโt want.
she also isnโt necessarily pro marriage, as she is the protector of secret trysts and relationships of the night protecting them away from the sun and to be seen only by those she shines her moonlight upon. itโs very poly, queer, and non-traditional relationship coded - something sun elves that worship corellon arenโt necessarily indoctrinated into understanding
canon lore lolth commits adultery against corellon in their marriage, but sehanine wouldnโt necessarily see this as a bad thing - certainly not to the point of killing all drows . she believes that to close yourself off to the possibility of having multiple relationships can be damaging, as you will meet all kinds of people throughout your extremely long elven life. so after corellon actively desired the death of all drows, it snapped sehanine out of it, seeing that now, she had to protect her elven counterparts from him instead.
besides - corellon thinks of himself as the literal personification of everything elven . but lei doesnโt look like him in the slightest, and moon elves share more physical characteristics with the drow. itโs about understanding that corellon set the moon elves up, to pit them against the drow to fight his battles when in fact, the moon elves are no closer to his verizon of โelvenhoodโ than the drow are.

name: eun-hye min
alias: leitha maurilya
status: missing / presumed dead, alive
date of birth & age: november 20th, 1977 & 17 (wilderness) , 38-42 (post)
place of birth: bijalim, jeju-do, south korea (๋น์๋ฆผ, ์ ์ฃผ๋)
eun-hye min lived most of their childhood outside of their homeland of jeju-do, the beautified island of south korea. a child born outside of wedlock, they were pushed into locked rooms or behind dusty curtains when it was time for family photos, or as early as possible, sent abroad to private institutions. there they studied and was taught the art of the more traditional life: horseback riding, fencing, ballet, instruments, and an oddity chosen for the young child, the bow and arrow. they had learned a multitude of languages, traveling between countries and cities, never staying long enough to get comfortable as eun-hye became a creature of solidarity living. until one year, eun-hye was sent to live with their distant "aunt" (who was really a childhood friend of their fathers) when they were caught sneaking out, and subsequent stealing from their fellow peers. now stuck in a small town in new jersey, enrolled into a public school for a year and forced into pitiful extracurriculars; their punishment for breaking the rules of living uptight, upper class life didn't stop there.
their memory of the crash was everything but hazy, clear picture of their descent stayed glistening in their memories: the ones that haunt them into their adulthood. they survived the crash and after that, fell into a world of madness, and the hunt. a killer they became, hunting animals when needed, using uncalloused hands to craft arrow after arrow until it was perfected out there. the climb to the top seemed out of reach, out of their dreams and mind, focused merely on the fact of survival. spite and anger was held onto for their dear life, as they would not become victim of the cards. it was hard to believe at first, the distant call of the moon that would howl to them in the middle of the night should have convinced them to listen closer; the other girls seemed to partake in the nature's bounty just fine (better than them, at first). but when the hunger settled, somewhere deep within their belly and clawed its way to their heart, blackening it to stone, eun-hye saw all meat the same.
after their rescue, leitha immediately returns home to jeju-do and spends years "recovering" within their family home. they are never seen in public, however, their story does become sensationalized across korea (and much of east asia) as the story of a "true girl-survivor". years afterwards, with the rise of "true crime", the story of the chaebol heiress turned plane crash survivor hit the western world, and forced them to change their name and identity during their mid-20s. basically removing themselves from their chaebol lineage, they do stay in korea to finish their studies as they enter law school, get a law degree, and successfully become a lawyer under their new alias. they never do end up practicing law, only wishing to complete their studies and degree - instead shifting towards their p.i work. after about a decade, they return to the united states and begin their private investigator practice. during the entire time post-rescue, leitha never gives up their connection to their more "wild" and "surviving" side of the wilderness, carrying it into adulthood and their new job. their p.i work is constantly filled with danger and violence, engaging in a more "vigilante" side of the law.
season three. the differences are pretty stark because of the grossly misinterpretations and character assassinations of the woc in this show. leitha does not side with shauna, in fact, they quickly snap out of their delusional haze once lottie kills the researcher. no matter their homelife, nothing could ever convince them to stay in the wilderness, not even for fear of people knowing what they did out there. there is still a privileged aspect in their life and precursor knowledge that their father, no matter his own personal opinions and thoughts, would do anything and everything to protect their legacy. and that includes potentially covering up their murder and subsequent cannibalism. this makes them built with a mental fortitude during this season in the wilderness, where seeing another full winter is not something they are planning on doing. they stay on natalie's side, and even goes as far as attempting to befriend mari and misty.
it's very unlikely leitha ever becomes antler queen during their time in the wilderness as their connection with nature is more with the moon than anything else (trees, wind, animals, etc.)
leitha doubts the spiritual aspect of the wilderness only during the beginning stages of crash. once they see multiple acts of "miracles" performed especially during the time in the cabin, leitha is easily convinced. they very much believe in forms of mysticism as it is an important aspect of korean culture, but they don't believe themselves as a spiritual person.
leitha partakes in the murders and subsequent cannibalism that occurs in the wilderness. they are wracked with guilt and acts out in forms of self harm/danger only against themselves and never against the others.
it is very likely the other girls did not like leitha. lei was a quiet girl with a sharp, dead panned wit, was ridiculously intelligent for their age, and it very much showed. they thought they were not only better than everyone else, with their studies and physical prowess, but didn't care to hide that fact either. this is one of the main reasons they fall into the more "occult" side of the wilderness and their time there, as well as the violence enacted, due to peer pressure and hopes that if they were to engage, the others wouldn't use their personality before the crash against them.
leitha hunts with a makeshift bow but rarely ever uses it. they keep it more for a form of protection and does threaten multiple people multiple times to not take it from them possession or if their life is ever in danger (by the other survivors).
when they changed their identity the only people that know of it are the other survivor's. even though they try not to stay in contact with any of them, apart of their job as a p.i will always be keeping an eye on the others (for protection/safety reasons and the fear of one of the admitting what they all did). leitha is always just a phone call away for the others to reach, in case they need their help.
because of the devil on my shoulder i'm going to fully rant about leitha's t.adc design since i've been stewing on it since the last episode......... (tw for discussion of: bodies in general, body image, dysphoria, self harm, substance abuse)
they would be represented as a korean traditional doll which are usually called "h.anbok dolls" because they are always dressed in hanboks. the clothing symbolizes korean national identity, cultural heritage, and it's core concepts regard harmony, respect and balance. the bright colors and designs are signifying joy, good fortune, purity, and social status and they are oftentimes worn during weddings, birthdays, and/or holidays. leitha would be portrayed as the powerful symbol of k.orean culture and national pride
and for them to be an actual porcelain doll??? dressed in h.anbok??? specifically the kind representative of royalty (or even when getting married)??? something about always having the full face of makeup, the long garbs, the LITERAL p.ekcha (traditional korean white porcelain) body would be NIGHTMARE fuel for leitha
especially because i would have their h.anbok be specific colors to fuel their own separation of their personhood to their ethnic roots (because i hate happiness!). it would be:
white: purity + integrity. things leitha doesn't have! they are very sexual and enjoy their desires and they often lie for little to no reason behind it. the color white on a hanbok also means new beginnings such as weddings and funerals &. since leitha is always being pushed to be married but doesn't ever want to (esp because marriage is typically viewed as the merger of two families over anything else in korea. and if lei wants that separation from their family that means they can NOT get married) and hates facing death in any way
yellow: royalty and nobility. something leitha is ALWAYS trying to seperate from because, in the most simplistic and petty way, it embarrasses them. they don't want to deal with what people think of those being born from money- even though it's 100% true. they don't like to constantly face their privilege because their internal struggles oftentimes trump their desire to ensure equality. it's easier to run away and leitha is no better than other rich people. they just think they are because they don't use their dad's money. go figure.
pink: innocence, femininity and young love. just a pure and constant reminder that they will always be seen as a woman and that they should uphold the traditions of what a first born daughter in a korean household should do. young love because they married their first love at eighteen and he promptly died soon afterwards
purple: wealth, elegance, sophistication. again, another reminder of their birthright status/being a nepo baby. they are born into this world and they can never fully escape it despite trying for their entire life (and by proxy, apologizing for by doing their whole private eye shtick)
i really like the idea of lei just being a mimi doll as well. specifically their hanbok one's. mimi was the first fashion doll in korea (obvi taking after b.arbie) and literally means "pretty pretty". mimi is literally a princess that "finds happy things and wants to make people happy" (isn't that what lei does anyways? they want to make people happy so that they stay in lei's life). these dolls colors legit being white, purple, pink and yellow is EXACTLY what i was just describing!
and if the theory in t.adc about the characters being physical representations of their fears/insecurities is true, then this would sum up lei pretty quickly
leitha takes pride in their body and how much work they have put into it. they constantly are working out and moving, as well as building bodily tolerance through actual fights. they pride themselves in being able to take hits - because they wouldn't hesitate jumping in front of a bullet for someone. they also can't really sit still so asking them to be constantly gentle with something, especially their body (something they like can take hits, but doesn't necessarily personally respect. aka self harm thru drinking, smoking, not sleeping) would be psychosis worthy
being a doll = fear of being manipulated, having to always be 'masking'/putting up a front/being "on", being toyed/played/messed with in ways they can't control, being seen as a toy/less than (it all comes down to being this "thing" or an object thatโs for someone else's pleasure/gain. leitha doesn't want to be something or someone that loses their agency and thus is controlled by another person/entity).
being seen as a doll = the uncanny valley effect. something they already deal with outside of the circus because they're non-white and how their features that typically seen as something "exotic", and different. it being staged within orientalism and racism.
our brains recognizing that dolls are something safe and comforting, but something deep within us that is evolutionary screams the "potential of danger" because something is "off". this would make anyone that interacts with lei inside the circus IMMEDIATELY feel like there is something "wrong" with lei and come from a place of distrust. which is something they would fucking hate (they take a lot of time building trust in people bc of their insecurities that everyone would leave but they oftentimes feel extremely disingenuous about it. are the lies difficult to differentiate from because of the amount/frequency or do they actually want to help people?)
p.ekcha is traditional k.orean white porcelain and most dolls from the j.oseon period of k.orea was made of this material. it originated from being ancient burial figurines = lei's innate fear of dying and their death being insignificant. they want to make as much of a mark in the world as possible so that it is virtually impossible that leitha ever truly dies (the fact these dolls were originally made for someone's burial.......... yeah.)
leitha ensures that their personality embodies how they physically feel. it doesn't lean into traditional femininity most of the time because they often see themselves as the divide in between being afab and now apart of the agender spectrum. being someone in highly feminine clothing, makeup, and the pinnacle of traditional korean beauty standards from a time where royalty was revered, would strip them of their fluidity, and ensure that people don't take them (and mainly, their spoken word) seriously
something about how you can change a dolls clothes constantly, but you canโt with this specific korean dollโฆโฆโฆ..
lei has a hard time accepting their family/homeland/birthright. it's not to say that leitha "hates being k.orean/their family" - it's more about how they hate what their family (mainly perpetuated by their father) stands for. in their modern verses, they are literally chaebol-adjacent (think billionaire) but literally has run away from that life. they left their family, made sure any trace of who they were is effectively missing/extremely difficult to get a hold of, and they legit changed their name
their k.orean name, "eun-hye" means grace, kindness, beauty, favor, intelligence, wisdom, mercy, brightness, benefit and their last name "min" means clever, quick or sharp minded, expressing concepts such as "people/enlightenment/love". all these adjectives literally describe EXACTLY who lei is. they are the embodiment of these traits, their birth name perfectly fits who they are. yet they've changed it, disregarded its k.orean tradition and signifying meaning
but as the physical embodiment of something from the j.oseon period of k.orea? even dating back to the silla era (k.orea's golden age)? having become the meaning and representation of a historical artifact (the type of things that leitha actually goes out searching for!) of the ideals of beauty, wealth, status and artistry???? things that leitha tries so desperately to separate themselves from? tragic.
and btw im naming this verse "to hit a rock with an egg" which is a k.orean proverb that is about a "futile, impossible, or extremely difficult struggle against overwhelming odds". aka, like trying to break a stone with a fragile egg (a hopeless endeavor against a powerful force). highlighting the vast difference in strength and trying to change an unyielding system or challenge an unbeatable opponent. to do something foolish that results in a huge loss. which not only seems fitting for leitha in this verse in general, but for the a.mazing digital circus in general.............. if the shoe fits ig <3

๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ถ . ha-eun min creates the beginning of the min clan during the joseon dynasty on jeju-do, claiming a large rice field and working its land. joseon imposed a tribute system on a commercialized peasant economy, collecting taxes now on commodities, specifically rice and cotton textiles. with the country's disuse on forced labor and slavery, it allowed ha-eun to bring people into her fold through indentured servitude; though many were prisoners' escaping the ongoing war and looming threat of the rule of japan.
it was around this time the first sino-japanese war occured, many koreans mass revolted and then were persecuted for it - forcing many impoverished koreans to seek out a more nationalistic perspective opposed to western culture. ha-eun, a major proponent of this religion named donghak, took in many fleeing koreans, offering them shelter and work on her rice paddy. it flourished into massive terraced fields, protected by those that lived within.
๐ท๐ฟ๐ท๐ถ . under the empire of japan, joseon was forced under its rule with its former emperor abdicating. it allowed japan to forcefully colonize korea, now enacting sweeping changes such as banning the use of korean names, the korean language all together, as well as looting thousands of cultural artifacts to be taken back to japan. many historic buildings such as royal palaces, were partially or completely demolished - now introducing newly built infrastructure such as railways, ports, and roads. the workers were forced into extremely poor working conditions and discriminatory pay. overall, the dark imperialistic rule of japan had begun and stretched its reach all the way to the lonesome island of jeju-do.
ha-eun's rice fields were completely destroyed during the take-over, now in a position to marry off her eldest son to a rich militaristic japanese family. her son, an-ho, marries shika sato, and they have their first and only son, emito sato. they spend the next two years desperately attempting to revive their fields, to no prosperous avail.
๐ท๐ฟ๐ท๐ธ . eun-hye is born to an-ho min, the head of the min family, and lia. lia was a farmer who had worked on the min family land, an escapee of the surrounding wars - taken under the wing of ha-eun. eun-hye is born out of wedlock, becoming the first and only named "bastard" of the min line, forcing them into a life of concealment. they were born very early into the colonialist rule of japan, allowing eun-hye to be originally born with a korean name. however, they spent the majority of the time within the decrepit household, away from both their father and mother.
jeju-do is seized along with the rest of joseon, the min family unwillingly being moved to the mainland; now called chosen, their lives and dynasty on jeju-do destroyed and forgotten. ha-eun spends much of her time with her granddaughter, instilling much of traditional korean history and the korean language into their memory to pass onto future generations.
๐ท๐ฟ๐น๐ถ . ha-eun catches wind of the beginning of the korean liberation army, its personnel participating in various battles and intelligence activities against the japanese. knowing the importance of building this restoration army, she begins heavily training eun-hye in secret to join, their united goal of returning to a freed jeju-do clear in both of their minds. eun-hye has turned 18, and spends the next five years learning how to be an operative for the liberation army, their grandmother, and the min family.
eun-hye meets a chinese soldier, zyn, from the liberation army headquarters in chongqing, who was apart of the korean government-in-exile. he conducted various anti-japanese rule activities, though was almost caught in his attempt at seeking out information on enemy hideouts/movements. eun-hye, a passerby, managed to not only create a skillful diversion to distract imperial soldiers, but also guided zyn back to the safety of the min home. when it was clear that they both had similar intentions, zyn agrees to stay in hiding with eun-hye. during this time, they receive both investigator teachings from their grandmother, but also physical training from zyn.
๐ท๐ฟ๐น๐ป . eun-hye, to the disdain of the rest of their family, enlists into the volunteer troops of the women of the korean army. this military group mobilized an education unit, where they sang martial songs, read poems, and above all, taught hangeul (the korean alphabet). however for eun-hye, they became deployed as a reportorial officer, taking charge of publication of the surrounding camps newspapers, preparing and dispersing leaflets that conciliated the enemy's surrender and up to date wartime events; they were a writer, investigator, and presenter of stories and national news. they participated in the various corps of rangers when they left their home, taking charge of secret information, medical support, cooking, washing, and at times, went directly into battle alongside their now romantic partner, zyn.
๐ท๐ฟ๐น๐ฟ . despite their involved actions fighting against japanese regime, the min family still held strong within this new rule - the consummated marriage into the sato family meant that the korean legacy of the mins, had slowly but surely vanished. this came to ahead during the enactment of soshi-kaimei, where koreans now faced the life threatening policy that pressured them into assimilating into japanese culture. this meant that many were forced to adopt japanese names and identify as such, as this policy was one of many aspects of joseon cultural genocide. eun-hye was forced to change their name to emiko sato, the min family name disappearing as they all had now officially joined the sato clan.
๐ท๐ฟ๐บ๐ถ : ๐ผ๐๐๐๐ . the transporting of blood and blood banks were not completely new concepts during this time. however, the military had yet to adopt plastic bags for storing, shipping, and administering blood. before this, blood was stored and transported in glass bottles, but these bottles needed to not only be refrigerated, but were extremely difficult to transport since they took up much needed space and broke easily. during one of the transporting of these blood banks between camps, eun-hye and zyn's vehicle was attacked, a small armed force of japanese and chinese imperial soldiers had managed to track zyn down and were determined to bring him back to an unknown science lab.
during this attack, many of their fellow soldiers died, though they both managed to defeat the attackers; however, eun-hye and zyn were severely injured during the battle, now suffering major blood loss. surrounded in the destroyed blood bank, zyn enacted a successful blood transfusion to temporarily save eun-hye's life, though in the process, made them contract hemolysis. zyn however, did not survive the battle especially after this transfusion, dying after it was made; reports on the attack were unclear and susceptible, as though the information on zyn's death was described, there were reports of a witness that had escaped that made it back to zyn's former enemies.
๐ท๐ฟ๐บ๐ถ : ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฝ๐๐ . reeling from the loss of their partner, from the attacks and murders of their fellow soldiers, they abandon their post and travel on foot to the headquarters in chongqing. when they arrive in a few months time, they find it raided through and now abandoned, eun-hye now searching deeper within. a destroyed bunker underneath the building held a quiet room with broken test tubes, restraint chairs, laboratory equipment, and a large broken mechanical computer. there were blood traces throughout, however, no bodies or any sign of life remained. the superstructure laid in a standstill, the only piece of equipment still in use was a single black bodied viewfinder camera. a remaining piece of evidence that proved the government mandated crimes and human experimentation against korean soldiers. due to their disease being left untreated, eun-hye suffers from heart failure, a fatal outcome with no proper medical attention. though even after they had been declared dead, a heart beat continued on in their veins.
โพโ.ห ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ . . .
the min dynasty blossomed out of imperial rule, now the first chaebol family of jeju-do. having returned to ha-eun min's original rice patties on this island, an-ho min spends the rest of his life building this families dynasty. now a large industrial conglomerate run and controlled by the min's, he founded DolaeJeju!, the largest tourism company to exist. to the benefit of the entire island, the min's become faux-royalty, stretching it's influence through corporate travel agencies and its tour operators across the globe.
eun-hye and zyn's body are eventually found by the japanese government, a continuation of former experiments now specializing in reviving those that contracted a specific blood pathogen. for years these experiments continued, until one fateful day, eun-hye took their first breath of this second life, and opened their eyes to see faces they have never seen before: american soldiers.
in an attempt of covering up the human experimentation done by the japanese, the american government stepped into the mess destroying the east. there were many claims circulating about biological weapons created from an american-japanese collaboration, that was then being used within korea. a secret biological warfare programme that japan created during the 1930s, lasting until the end of the war in 1945. the uk and usa were actively pursuing the affect effects of this program, its now lone survivor, eun-hye min, found and brought into the fold. a piece of a contractual agreement between now-korea and the united states created: to either work for them in order to keep their identity sealed, a secret to the world.
for a short while, eun-hye min works with the american government as it attempts to 'repair' its relationship with the east, specifically korea. they use their recently obtained powers to see into the future, obtaining visions from beyond of destructive events and the death of anybody's blood they come in contact with. they are dubbed "the mystic seer", a shaman of unknown and reputable powers. it allows them to return to their family, to become apart of the min dynasty once more, however, they are relocated to the united states and kept under strict surveillance.
due to their contracted hemolysis during the war and subsequent experimentation in their decade long state of comatose, they gained the potential of unique and magical powers. commonly invisible and intangible until activated, at which point were characterized by a blue glow or blue flames, these flames appeared as jagged cracks on the skin. they were charged with powerful energy and the activation of such could cause physical sensations ranging from itching to debilitating pain. all afflicted individuals could sense the presence of sources of contained energy and were immune to any deadly wasting diseases. leitha could also focus their scarred energy to gain the following abilities:
precognition as a range of seeing brief flashes of the immediate future to gaining comprehensive knowledge of all possible futures oftentimes manifesting as involuntary visions, premonitions during dreams, or a more controlled ability to analyze probable outcomes
to their eyes to see invisibility, gain 360-degree darkvision, allow them to know when someone would die
to their feet to gain extra speed
to their arms to extend their reach
to their weapons to augment their strikes
to their mind to absorb the memories of those around them/the dead or to speak with dead
to their fingers to immediately know the alchemical properties of any ingredient/potion/etc.
to their skin to make them temporarily impervious to non-magical weapons
warp or deform reality through polymorph spells, teleporting short distances, turning invisible, bending probability to their advantage, or disrupt magic altogether
tapping into spellfire to: heal themselves, energize or vaporize others, consume/absorb spells casted at them, project destructive bursts of flames from their eyes, to fly
temporarily gain an immunity to divine/dragon/hell/magical fire
regard mundane fire as unharmful and could freely extinguish or heal any fire on their person
lifespan was overall extended (longevity will be inherited by their children)
have dreams or visions that could convey obscure secrets about the nature of magic
this was a mark or scar on an individual who was exposed, to the spellplague. it was a mild form of plaguechange that had the potential to grant unique magical powers to the afflicted individual. such individuals were referred to as spellscarred, and some among them trained to master their powers.
spellscars were commonly invisible and intangible until activated, at which point they were characterized by a blue glow or blue flames. these flames might appear as jagged cracks on the skin, symbols or brands on the face, or even as halos or wings. they were charged with powerful arcane energy and the activation of one could cause physical sensations ranging from itching to debilitating pain.
spellscarred savants learned to familiarize themselves with the spellplague in order to gain mastery over it, and thus gained the ability to bend these infamously chaotic powers to their will. these savants learned not only to overcome the weaknesses to these energies, but to gain power over them.
all afflicted individuals: can sense the presence of the spellplague nearby, were not susceptible to the fatal consequences of prolonged exposure to a plagueland, are immune to deadly magical wasting diseases, and plaguechanged ghouls were wholly disinterested in them.
leitha can also focus their spellscar's energy to gain the following abilities:
to their eyes to see invisibility, gain 360-degree darkvision, allow them to know when someone would die
to their feet to gain extra speed
to their arms to extend their reach
to their weapons to augment their strikes
to their mind to absorb the memories of those around them/the dead or to speak with dead

lifespan was overall extended (longevity will be inherited by their children)
have dreams or visions that could convey obscure secrets about the nature of magic
spellscarred individuals were often viewed as abominations, and caused leitha to actively hide their scars
during the spellplague, spellscarred were often "quarantined" and faced a growing movement to expel them because of their "impurity"
spellscars were hunted by demonslayers, organizations that would ruthlessly kill them, and were experimented on by powerful wizards
with the return of mystra, those who had visible scars or marks found that they now appeared as mundane but vivid tattoos
leitha's scars glow when they cast arcane spells
though they can focus their spellscar energy to obtain any of the abilities above, they do NOT unless necessary; this is because the varying levels of pain are unknown (ranging from a simple surface level itch to a debilitating/excruciating pain)
activation is not only generally painful, simply possessing a spellscar could attract the unwanted attention of abominations associated with the spellplague
having a spellscar makes them more susceptible to attacks of plaguechanged creatures and the powers of other spellscars
also referred to as the blue breath of change, was a disaster that struck the planes of existences, and was caused by mystra's assassination at the hands of cyric and shar. it continued for a decade, leading to the wailing years, during which arcane magic ceased to function and the planet of toril was transformed.
for eons, magic had been bound within mystra's weave, the universal structure of arcane forces, and her death tore the weave apart. it unleashed the raw magic contained within it, creating this cataclysm. without the weave, the shadow weave was unable to be maintained and collapsed as well, it resulted in a magical source of defiling arcane energy in the form of blue flames.
waves of azure fires appeared everywhere, killing whatever they touched. its energies then reanimated some of those it killed, which arose as hungry undead known as plaguechanged ghouls; affected humans that were somehow tied to the shadowfell transforming them into a "new race", the shadar-kai.
anything that came into contact with the spellplague risked being destroyed or warped by its energies. creatures and individuals risked becoming "plaguechanged", which entailed massive physical mutations and often a complete loss of sanity. those who came into contact with weaker versions of the plague were sometimes lucky enough to escape with only a spellscar, which could also bestow potent magical abilities.
the spellplague manifested in toril as a storm of blue flames, heavily affected by wild magic activity in such a catastrophic way that this explosion transformed these lands into an unpredictable and surreal place. it made the ground rumble and heave up and down like the surface of the sea; curtains of blue flames swept the landscape, reshaping the land by cutting crevasses or lifting and sculpting the plain into hills and ridges.
blue flames also infected portals and planar gates, creating opened rifts in the underdark. it caused the level of water to drop, cutting many ports off from their livelihood though most notably, creating the underchasm.
evermeet was pushed into the plane of faerie, leaving behind a pale shadow of what the island of the elves used to be, though the isle's residents could move back and forth from faerie to faerun at will. the plague pulled back the feywild into toril's proximity, reopening the paths between the two planes again.
this was a mark or scar on an individual who was exposed, to the spellplague. it was a mild form of plaguechange that had the potential to grant unique magical powers to the afflicted individual. such individuals were referred to as spellscarred, and some among them trained to master their powers.

merely having a spellscar allowed afflicted individuals to sense the presence of the spellplague nearby, but those who wished to manifest more powerful, strange, and unique abilities had to train to do so. however, activation could be painful, and simply possessing a spellscar could attract the unwanted attention of abominations associated with the spellplague as well as being more susceptible to its overall negative effects.
many spellscarred individuals' lifespans were extended by one to decades, and in rare cases, this longevity was inherited by their children. some individuals suffered from disturbing dreams or bizarre visions which sometimes conveyed obscure secrets about the nature of magic. students of the plague generally gained the ability to wield fire and force-based powers or energies that could wither both the body and mind, and they were called spellscarred savants.

โพโ.ห ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ . . .
๐ท๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ - ๐ท๐ฟ๐ฟ๐บ . eun-hye min has been declared dead for many years at this point, thus forcing them to undergo a new identity and take their mother's maiden name. their new chosen name and identity falls under: leitha maurilya. it is possible with high government access, to find reports of eun-hye's passing that claims it was due to hemolysis during the imperial rule - as well as scattered photographs of eun-hye and zyn during their time together, and testimony's of the min family being involved with someone of the same last name during that time period.
with this family kept secret, the min dynasty blossoms out of imperial rule, now becoming the chaebol family of jeju-do. to maintain proximity and this secret, the min family "hires" leitha to become ha-eun's caretaker, living as a proxy "adopted" child of an-ho min. throughout this time they continue their investigation surrounding the experiments done to various chinese and korean soldiers, including themselves, keeping the camera and photographs their grandmother had saved for a wishful return.
๐ท๐ฟ๐ฟ๐บ . leitha now has the first lead they had in decades: a group of elite american soldiers and scientists tell a horrific tale about fantastical creatures and big pharma secretly controlling law enforcement and the government. a mansion, unknowingly blows up and causes a wildfire that the national guard has to put out; plus, the company being blamed was credited with saving a town from the early '90s recession which was on the brink of wiping out its economy. rumors about these agents returning and explaining their stories went dead immediately, local cops more concerned about their fellow - now, dead - officers. these deaths were subsequently blamed back on s.t.a.r.s, who are being investigated for these crimes.
whereas now, the taboo subject pans out as one of two things: you are either in cahoots with these "cop-killers" in uniform, or you are helping build a case against them. leitha makes their way to the united states for the first time, heading straight towards a place called, racoon city.
i understand i am technically breaking the canon timeline of resident evil by creating a beginning strain of the t-virus that infects leitha way before the events of re1. please keep this in mind: it is NOT the t-virus, but a subsequent side result of human experimentation that occured in the east between 1933-1945. umbrella is written with a dark view of the japanese corporate mindset (ie. never betraying the company you work for), and leitha's story is HEAVILY imbedded with japanese colonization and imperialistic rule. human experimentation by the japanese and the korean war in general is history mainly forgotten though, japanese doctors in china performed thousands of cruel experiments on chinese, russian, mongolian, and korean people - effectively killing all of them.
there is much insinuated in this verse, such as the american-japanese collusion for biological warfare, and what this means with umbrella's influence outside of the states. along with this, as to what exactly leitha contracted is also up in the air, and probably will forever remain that way. leitha has lost that decade of their life and most likely won't remember anything concrete during that time, though much of the evidence as to what exactly happened was destroyed in the east anyways. that is why they head to the united states, where they hope that what they find can provide some answers as to umbrella's dealings overseas.
