This whole conversation was, to put it simply, taking a huge turn for the better, at least for her it was. For Leither however, it was turning into something much like an interrogation, and an intense one at that. She hadn’t exactly expected to hear all of this from the taller boy, but it was certainly interesting. Though she couldn’t really complain, she was getting answers, and they were coming easily, which was more than Lilian could’ve ever asked for. She noticed that he seemed confused by the sudden closeness, but the other didn’t dare ask why, hell, even if he would have, there wouldn’t have been a true answer other than that she wanted to get closer. So they could speak softer as to no one could hear of course. Lilian was secretly proud of herself for getting the other to talk as much as he had, it was a private acomplishment on her part. Her eyes kept trained on him intently, trying to figure out any hidden emotion, behavior, anything behind what he was saying. And apparently, there was. “If you think about it, everyone has strange interests as children. Which is actually lovely, because most of the time children can delve deeper into their interests without being too harshly judged by the community.” Lilian’s head nodded, she did in fact understand where he was coming from, seeing as everything violent began to happen to her in her latter teen years. “I know where you’re coming from, my projects started happening when I was around sixteen. Do you have an age where it all started, like you knew it was something you just had to do?” She allowed a small smile to make it’s way to her face, in more of a comforting matter than anything. When a girlfriend was brought up, her furrowed her eyebrows, wanting, no, needing to hear more. It seemed like the mystery woman had truly had a large impact on his life. But this was where everyhting took a turn for the worst, Leith didn’t seem like his normally slightly cocky, happy self. His eyes held such a deep emotion, Lilian didn’t know what to do. She wanted to know more, for the way he had spoken of her made it seem like unspeakable things had happened to her. But all in all, the tiny one wasn’t totally sure whether or not he would continue. Pushing the need to know even a bit more aside, she awkwardly placed her head on near his shoulder, trying to be as comforting as possible. She hadn’t meant for him to act even the slighest bit sad, but here he was. Lilian hadn’t ever been one for comforting, simply because she didn’t know how. Having no friends at school meant she had to grow up alone, basking in the silence and sadness all by herself. Looking up at him, she whispered something nearly inaudible. “You can stop now if you’d like love.”
Leith had no idea what had gotten into him, or where these words were coming from. They had been asleep in his troubled mind for quite some time, so he supposed she was giving him a good enough reason to give in to them. Whether it was healthy or not was a whole different topic. The young man never usually let himself dwell on his morbid thoughts for too long, just incase his own twisted nature managed to scare himself off enough for him to become more of a recluse than he already was. Ava hadn't done this to him, he realized. She had just awakened him -- for lack of a better word. He could vaguely remember the fear in her eyes whenever he would say something that scared her, even though he would just be voicing whatever he felt at the time. It was most definitely her whom had given him the mindset that made him believe something was off about himself, even though he had already known that from the bullying in his childhood. He had never listened to any of it until she came along. Until she called him those names, and then fled like he was the worst possible disease you could catch. And he knew it was wrong -- but Lilian was changing his view on the whole thing. She made him believe that it was okay. Well, not okay, but rather no longer seen as something that should be denied. Dwelling on the past didn't make him sad; just unbearably frustrated. He was a little upset, sure, but most of all he wished that he had done things a little differently. Maybe, or definitely hidden his strange interest better. He listened intently to her words, noting that she was right every time that she opened her mouth. Or maybe she wasn't, and his outlook on the world was just as wrong and messed up as hers. "I'd always liked people in general," He continued, "Liked how they worked and wanted to know more about them, and science was definitely my thing throughout high school." The nurse felt stupid in a way, like the other wouldn't care for the minor details -- she just wanted the blood and guts part of it. His eyes narrowed at her attempt at comfort, though there was still a crinkle to his eyes that showed slight amusement by the sudden gesture. He hadn't even realized he had seemed sad, and if he was, the emotion had been so fleeting he hadn't recgonized it. He was just frustrated out of his mind more than anything. Leith wanted to explore but he didn't know how to. Even though her comforting was a little awkward, and he was stiff as he didn't know what to do, it was still sweet and something he was able to appreciate. The mere closeness of anybody was strange enough to him, never mind a pretty girl. It had been so long. "I don't mind," He said, honestly now. "I just don't know how to go about it."
"A nurse? Mmm, fun. Well, who’d be willing to let someone root around in their head. Hmm? Would you?"
"It can be... Uh -- not particularly, no. But none of us are here to punish you, just to help."
"Oh please. In a place like this? There’s no way anyone is actually getting any help. I mean, have you been helped?"
"It does help when the patients are more willing. And well, no, because I'm a nurse."
What had started as a simple excuse to get out of her latest punishment was turning into something much more — interesting. The other had grabbed her attention from the get go, but now he was metaphorically pulling her in. He had a dark side, everyone did of course, but his seemed much more than that, much more violent maybe? Lilian didn’t know for sure yet, but she knew that she would eventually. She would pester it out of him, or once her hands were no longer restrained, the information would be forced out of him. When he spoke again, she rolled her eyes, was he still playing this card. “Don’t even try that Leith, we both know that’s not true.” Well, she didn’t exactly know yet, but if she acted like she did, maybe he’d let a bit of his secrets out. “I would hope not, I suppose that means that murders out of the question for you? Whatever you’re doing must not be ‘breaking the law’ bad, like what I had done, but there’s still a lot of wicked stuff you could be doing.” The other stopped for a few seconds, which to Lilian seemed like eternity. He was her entertainment as of now, and she certainly wasn’t ready for it to end just yet. Maybe. That’s all he had said, yet it made the tiny brunette excited, so happy as to where she stood up from her place on the ground, and made her way close to him. “Keep going.” She urged softly, her voice low as to where only the boy in front of her could hear.
He couldn't help but wonder how what had supposed to be him grilling a patient for breaking curfew, had turned into something almost like the opposite -- her grilling him for information on himself. But he supposed that was how it always went; somehow these patients were artfully skilled at manipulation. The man could be in danger even, but somehow he had let that simple fact slip from his mind. No matter if he even had her outweighed in the physical aspect by miles, she probably knew how to trap him by using only words. And so far she was doing quite a good job. Either way, she definitely had his mind flying off to the darker regions. Before he could even ready himself in any way, the other had stood and was now in front of him. Quite close, but he wouldn't focus on that. He wetted his lips with his tongue before speaking, "I'd always been into the stranger things, even as a kid," He paused for a moment, trying to weigh out just how much he would give her before he possibly went too far. "The um -- dark side of it started more or less when I was a teenager. A fascination that I just couldn't get rid of, you know?" He stopped himself, trying his best not to feel too confident by the fact that she would probably understand where he was coming from - and how that was just what he needed. He sized the girl up in front of him, wondering if he should tell her anything about Ava, the girl that had somehow brought out the worst in him. Before he could even stop himself he blurted, "I had a girlfriend not too long ago," He paused, "Things started to happen, like all of a sudden I would be taken over by this... need." He stopped quite abruptly, almost as if someone had choked the words out of him, pressing his lips together as he looked down at the girl with cloudy eyes.
"I do. Free food, free place to stay. Could say the same about prison, but I don’t look good in orange. And I highly doubt that I’ll be bothered by psychiatrists here."
"I suppose when you put it that way... but you're kind of here to be bothered by psychiatrists, to tell you the truth."
This guy was a tough nut to crack, he sheltered himself ten time’s as much as the next person, or at least it seemed like how he was trying to come across. Though he probably didn’t see it, Lilian couldn’t help but notice how similar he seemed to not only herself, but the other patients. Everyone at Devil’s End had something wrong with them, even the therapists and nurses, and she didn’t expect Leith to be any different. He didn’t seem like the definition ‘crazy’, so she figured he had yet to kill anyone, and he didn’t seem like the violent type, though no one really had at first. A thought that crossed her mind was that maybe he was a cheater, gambler, or possibly even something much more dark and serious. When she got even the smallest bit of a reaction from him, she knew that she had to keep pushing forward. Lilian let out a huff of air, allowing her lip to form into a pout. “If you truly understand, I’d like for you to admit that you’re no different than the patients here.” She ran her tongue across her bottom lip, glancing around the room. “Plus if you do understand, like you just said, it would mean that you know what it’s like to let your mind wander to it’s darkest corners.” She cocked her head, “so have you? Don’t worry Leith, I can keep a secret.”
Leith was most certainly the type to point-blank refuse to see himself as crazy. He wasn't crazy, was he? He had managed to get through his life this far without giving anything away to those around him, until now. It was almost as if the girl could see through to his darker parts; tempting them out to play in a way. And it wasn't like he did have several body parts hidden away in the corner of his room. Though he did have his own collection of sorts, the young man refused to see it as anything other than mild intrigue. Lilian was right. You couldn't -- or very rarely anyway, go through your life without at least having your own sneak peek into the darker side of life. If the patient were to find out about him and his habits, would she even continue talking to him as she was? He was dangerous in the most subtle of ways, something in his personality making him able to latch onto things, maybe a little too much. And nobody knew as of yet where his obsessive behaviour could take him, not even himself. "Oh, but I am different," He said, probably coming as no surprise to her as something he would say. "My behaviour hasn't ended me up where you are, and I think there must be a reason for that..." Studying her quietly for a few seconds, he tipped his head to the side. "Maybe." There, that was all she was getting for now; but something in him already knew that she wouldn't be satisfied with that alone.
Looks like I got off easy if this is the punishment for my crimes.
"You think?"
I feel so worn out.
I don’t even want to fight to get out anymore.
"Exhausting yourself like that isn't healthy, love."
"Help? Yeah, sure. I’ll believe that when I see it."
"Well, it's more possible when the patients co-operate."
For just a split second Lilian thought she’d struck a nerve, and she was more than ecstatic about that. The lonely nurse had more to him than she had thought of, which only made the tiny girl want to push further, just give him a slight push off the edge. But then before she was able to get any real enjoyment out of him, his face lost most expression, and he was speaking, as if nothing had ever truly happened. But the youngster knew that it wasn’t the truth, the other was obviously hiding something, and she intended to find out what it was, one way or another. She nibbled on the inside of cheek for a second before deciding to sit down on the floor, her legs crossed as she smiled up at him. “Oh please, don’t tell me you really believe that, I pegged you for someone much better than that love.” She ran her tongue over her bottom lip, eyebrow still cocked. “European, eh?”
What would happen if he did push it, If he gave this girl what she was obviously searching for? Perhaps it wouldn't be exactly up to par with her own twisted mind, but the thought was enough to get him curious. Only if he did decide to tell her anything -- his job would be in the line of fire. For some strange reason, he started to feel more confident when she sat down before him. As if there was now even less to compete against. He still stood with his back leaning against the door; long legs splayed ahead of him. The flicker of a smirk appeared across his lips as he looked down at the other, apparently still egging him on. Something about the glint in his eyes was strange - almost like a hint of admiration for the tiny one sat before him. Leith couldn't help but feel it, as she had the ability to let herself go and he didn't. "So what if I did," He said abruptly, eyebrow quirking. "Understand, that is. What would you like me to say?"
That’s too bad, but I’m not really surprised.
"What do you believe is fun about it?"
Lilian knew that the charade she had been pulling had close to no point now, yet something kept her going. Whether it be the fact that it was just another chance to annoy the older boy, or because it gave her something to do other than have to walk up to the main office and get into trouble and face the consequences, again. She watched the blond contently, waiting to see if her words were having even the slightest affect on him, and to her amusement, they were, or at least she thought. There was a subtle change in the other’s demeanor, his face was contorted, his eyes an odd shade, and then in a flash it was gone, and Leith was back to his seemingly normal self. Lilian’s head turned to the side for a second, a bit more than just confused. “I’m surprised that you haven’t let your mind run free love. Or maybe, perhaps you have?” She was questioning him no doubt, yet her tone of voice was sweet like honey, and as soft as silk.
It was a good thing Leith had such good control on his emotions, otherwise he was sure he would have snapped by now. But that was the thing, wasn't it? He didn't have control at all, at least not on the inside. His mind constantly would wage wars with itself, debating what was right and what wasn't. What would satisfy him and how to get it. Though it all led down to one big question -- if he took that final step too far, would he ever be able to get back? The man knew from experience from witnessing such things with other people that these sort of... hobbies, habits? Whatever they were; could become dangerously addicting. At her next words, he was careful to drop no hints in his expression on what he was really thinking. He had a faint idea of what the younger of the two was trying to do, and she most definitely had to be insinuating something. The slight narrow of his light brows were the only giveaway that he had any idea of what she was really talking about. "We don't think in the same way, sweetheart," He lied smoothly, the lilt in his british accent standing out. "So I don't really understand what you're talking about."
"Incase of what?"
"Incase you hurt yourself or others. The usual. It's how we help you."
"Obviously? Well that’s just creepy. I’ve never seen you before— Never ever."
"Not really. I kind of have to know who you are, why you're here, and all of the details. Just incase."
"Leith who works here? For how long?"
"About a year now. Haven't you seen me around? I mean, I've seen you. Obviously."
