Some of the lichens I've seen at Holy Island last Sunday. Species include: Caloplaca sp., Cladonia spp., Evernia sp., Parmelia spp., Diploicia sp. and Xanthoria parietina
Last Sunday's trip to Holy Island, Northumberland Coast (United Kingdom).
let's tussle with mama
so cutes i drew them
On Sunday I spent the afternoon with the Natural History Society of Northumbria practicing on-field insect and plant identification in Jesmond Dene (Newcastle upon Tyne). While realising my bug catching skills still need some sharpening, I couldn't keep myself away from looking around me in search of lichens, and this is what I found. ID suggestions are welcome:
1 - Ramalina fraxinea (I'm guessing) found fallen on the ground from tree canopy due to recent windy conditions;
2 - Twig segment showing a great variety of lichenicolous growth of Hypogymnia sp., Xanthoria parietina, Evernia sp. & Parmelia sulcata;
3 - Ramalina farinacea tufts fiercely growing on sycamore branch;
4 - Usnea subfloridiana and Evernia spp. growing on the same twig as in picture 2;
5 - Parmotrema sp. found on the ground. Again, likely to have been knocked on the ground from tree canopy by wind;
6 - Ramalina farinacea, Parmelia sp. & Phlyctis sp. (crustose).
One of the most beautiful images I've ever seen

The Sustainable Shift: Why Paper Bags are Leading the Way in Eco-Friendly Packaging
In a world increasingly conscious of its environmental footprint, the demand for sustainable packaging solutions has never been higher. At Avvirat Exporter, we're proud to be at the forefront of this green revolution, providing high-quality paper bags that are not just functional, but also environmentally responsible.
The Growing Concern: Plastic Pollution
For decades, plastic bags have dominated the packaging industry. However, the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our planet is undeniable. From clogging landfills to harming marine life, plastic waste poses a significant threat to our ecosystem. This growing awareness has fuelled a global shift towards eco-friendly alternatives.
The Paper Bag Advantage: A Sustainable Solution
Paper bags have emerged as a leading solution in this sustainable shift. Here's why:
Renewable Resource: Paper is derived from trees, a renewable resource. At Avvirat Exporter, we prioritize sourcing our paper from responsibly managed forests, ensuring sustainable forestry practices. We make sure our suppliers have FSC certifications.
Biodegradability: Unlike plastic, paper bags are biodegradable. They break down naturally, minimizing their impact on the environment.
Recyclability: Paper bags are easily recyclable, contributing to a circular economy. They can be turned into new paper products, reducing the need for virgin materials.
Reduced Carbon Footprint: While the manufacturing process of paper bags does have environmental impacts, when managed correctly, and when the bags are properly disposed of, they provide a much better environmental outcome than single use plastics.
Positive Consumer Perception: Consumers are increasingly prioritizing eco-friendly products and packaging. Using paper bags demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, enhancing your brand's image.
Avvirat Exporter's Commitment to Sustainability
At Avvirat Exporter, we understand the importance of environmental responsibility. We are dedicated to providing our customers with paper bag solutions that align with their sustainability goals. Our commitment includes:
Responsible Sourcing: Ensuring that our paper comes from sustainably managed forests.
Quality and Durability: Providing paper bags that are strong, reliable, and meet the highest quality standards.
Customization: Offering a wide range of customization options to meet your specific needs and branding requirements.
Global Export: Delivering our sustainable paper bag solutions to businesses around the world.
Join the Sustainable Shift
By choosing paper bags, you're making a conscious decision to reduce your environmental impact and contribute to a greener future. Avvirat Exporter is here to support you in this sustainable shift.
We believe that small changes can make a big difference. Together, we can create a more sustainable world.

Time for another trip to apothecium town, this time in the company of Leptogium cochleatum - a lovely jelly lichen of mild climes and sheltered shores.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I bring you sad news today. Murphy, the eagle who incubated a rock (and later raised a foster eaglet after his rock "hatched"), passed away at age 33 (almost a decade longer than long-lived wild eagles!). A tornado hit his local area. It's believed he sustained blunt force head trauma, likely from spooking during the high winds, as his cage and fellow eagles were unharmed.
Murphy is survived by his foster son, Baby 23-126, who was successfully released into the wild, and a second foster eaglet he was still caring for; this eaglet is expected to be able to be released as well.
I know a lot of people on Tumblr enjoyed seeing his story, and I know we will remember him fondly.
