pinned to help me keep track of my horror sib recs!!
help me indulge my very specific interest if u can!! forever and always seeking any and all horror media in some way related to siblings. movies, tv, games, books
criteria is genuinely just that there should be siblings. or that it should in some way be about siblings. or even that some siblings play a minor but interesting part. the horror can be mild or extreme. the relationship can be positive or negative or crimson-peak-esque. i do not care i'll take anything!!!!
made some letterboxd lists of movies i've watched or been recommended: hopefuls, rejects, featured in my little series. games & TV shows are below. if you have any other leads, pleeease send them my way!
TV: (started some of these, only finished watching two lmao)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Sharp Objects
American Gothic (1995)
American Gothic (2016)
Supernatural
Dexter
Sweet Home
Hannibal
Dead Ringers (2023)
video games:
until dawn
resident evil
corpse party
oxenfree
fatal frame (unplayed!)
books:
list is so pathetic that it's not worth detailing. i've read we have always lived in the castle and i know about gillian flynn but other than that i got nothin
I apologize if this has already been asked or is present in your account, but do you sell prints at all? The siblings series is amazing and they're perfect for prints, I'd love to support :D
so sweet that you'd want to support, but i don't sell prints atm.. the main reason being i have no idea how to start 🥲
also tbh i'd be paranoid about copyright and all that, even though i doubt anyone would care if i tried to sell fanart of like.. jug face
hiii hello :))) watched lee cronin's the mummy and despite being a rough mummy film (where's the mummy?), there were definitely some interesting sibling dynamics in it you might like!
hello hello :))) thank you for the rec as always but i'm honestly not sure i can watch this oneee....... i saw the trailer and i was into it for about 45 seconds, but you are so right.. where is the damn mummy???? and why is this taking place in a normal ass house???? also the shot of the girl with the funny teeth made me laaaaaugh
but i will still make note in case i think i might be able to round out a set w it. and again, thank you as always!! 💛
A few more horror sibling recs! The witch (vvitch) has many, strangers chapter 3 is realllly bad but has a pair, and coming soon (thai movie!) is kinda charming but the siblings aren't very important to it
Anonymous asked:
ALSO countdown (not too good), night of the hunter (good and many siblings), I am not a serial killer (sibling themes are p background) and for video games if you haven't already, some fatal frames and silent hill f! Also corpse party (not super important sibling relationship but it is there)
Anonymous asked:
Outlast trials just added conjoined twins that have something crazy weird going on
squishing these together because i think they're from the same person BIIIIIG list thank you!!!! i will do some recon on the video games especially (except corpse party bc i already know her and loveeee her)
obvious horror rec but in honor of MBJ winning the Best Actor Oscar: Sinners! The smoke & stack dynamic is absolutely central to the story - and tropes/themes Galore: the ride or die, the red oni/blue oni, sun & moon, etc etc (don't wanna give too many spoilers if you haven't seen it).
oooogh yeah Sinners has def been recommended to me, but for no specific reason, im scared im not going to like it, and i reeeeally want to like it.. also i feel like i have heard no one talk about the actual sibling dynamic?? there seems to be abt five thousand characters in the movie lol
anyway yeah, im waiting for the right time, but ill get around to it eventually, i swear 😭
- van helsing & red riding hood (where do you go without them there)
- basket case & malignant (evil twins)
- my animal (older sibling alienated from the younger)
oooooh yay a list thank you!!! and with theme through-lines ready-made!!!! doing my job for me 💛
cuckoo and my animal are new to me! i will add them to the list. i don't like romance-focused movies, but i may give my animal a shot anyway. speaking of, do u mean the 2011 red riding hood movie by the twilight lady?? i can't find mention of siblings, but i also can't find another red riding hood movie.. my guy from the evil dead remake is here..
i have seen hatching but may need to revisit, the hatchling does make a kind of a unique "sister" figure (also she had a brother but i don't remember him......). van helsing i also will need to revist—i was not in the mood for it when i first tried it, and as soon as kate beckinsale fell pussy-first onto hugh jackman's face i turned it off lmao. maybe i will give her another chance, because i remember seeing the werewolves as a kid and thinking they were sick
also basket case and malignant are my best friends!!!!!!!!!!!!! malignant i've featured in my series and basket case i plan to feature!! bonkers evil twin movies i love u!!!!! i can hit you right back with a recommendation for nightmare at shadow woods/blood rage if you like goofy evil twin movies! thanks again for the list!
Any other thoughts on horror movie siblings... also recently saw undertone and thought it was weak storywise but creepy, have you seen it or any other horror this year :3
any other thoughts on horror movie siblings????? yes!!! constantly!!! it is a curse i cannot break. but i will spare u the essay.
tbh i am so out of the loop on new releases.... as far as i'm concerned, horror movies pop into existence when the horror youtube girls i follow review them. i haven't watched any 2026 horror movies yet. but, some new-to-me movies i liked, i did go on a brief shark movie kick and finally watched jaws!! and a new shudder movie called beast of war (which was aggressively mid and i adored every second). i also recently watched the vourdalak and had a wonderful time watching that freak-ass puppet do its thing
your comments on the altered sibling set has fascinated me. mind going off a bit about them? i'm too scared to watch horror movies but i love your art and deeply want to know your opinions on the movies.
u gotta picture me kicking my feet. any invite to yap about horror and i will yap about horror till the cows come home. i will be going off more than a bit. no doubt this will be long, rambling, and make little sense—thank u and enjoy
🩸can't remember if i knew about the gecko brothers when i watched dusk till dawn, and they creeped me the hell out. i def knew the vampire twist was coming, but i did not know the first 45 minutes of that movie was going to be a nasty, tense crime thriller. i think tarantino got a razzie for his role, but i think he did a great job playing a whiny, childish creep. that character being paired up with george clooney's, who is a much better person by contrast (a bastard, but not a fucking bastard), was so odd. i think most movies would have seth full-on hate richie at some point to emphasize that they're different, that seth is a character you're supposed to root for, so the fact that he still loves and tries to look out for his slimebag brother was unexpected. especially because richie is never redeemed in any way. the implications are interesting to me, and i almost wish we'd learned more about them (tho that would have bogged the movie down for sure). like why the hell does seth put up with this guy, let alone actually care about him. i wanna know!!! the scene of seth finding out richie killed the bank teller, where he keeps repeating "is this my fault?" before laying into him is SO good...
🩸the 28 weeks kids don't have a lot of material to work with, but i think they get too much flak for being annoying or stupid. i'm not going to deny that they're stupid (characters purposefully breaking quarantine does ring a little differently these days), but i thought they were mainly just quite sweet. the world as we knew it ended because they refused to ever be separated again, and i think that's fun
🩸i don't know if there's much i can say about phantasm, and i mean that in a nice way. watching it the first time i thought it was just a cute story about a boy working with his cool older brother to take down a monster from his nightmares. the movie gives me a feeling that's kind of hard to explain—best way i can describe is that it feels less like a written story and more like a kid playing pretend. plot threads, characters, and weird details get added at random then dropped just as fast. janky-ness aside, i think it actually adds a fun but sad layer when rewatching, because you find out it literally is a kid playing pretend. i watched three more phantasm movies hoping for some kind of closure on jody each time, and i still feel like i haven't gotten it. tho i did get reggie the ice cream man and his four-barrel shotgun, so who can complain
🩸ROMULUS. puts my head in my hands., i hate this movie. i tried so hard to like it. i rewatched it after hearing that everybody but me did like it, and again after seeing and adoring david jonsson's performance in the long walk. nothing has worked yet. i think it is a vapid, hollow movie propped up by gorgeous production design. it's just wearing the skin of a classic. boo tomato tomato etc.
THAT BEING SAID i adored andy. jonsson is crazy good even with a lame-ass script. he did slightly too good of a job being likeable actually, because even when andy turned british and evil, i thought he was making the most sense, and i thought the other characters deserved to get snipped at or ditched (judging by the scary music, i was not supposed to feel this).
there are lots of movies where a character's alteration/possession is used a way to bring a relationship issue to the surface and provide catharsis. (a favorite example of mine; evil dead 2013 goes real hamfisted, mia's possession is a reflection of addiction and mental illness, both issues she was in the midst of when her brother ditched her, so it's redemptive when he decides to stick with her this time even if she's a hell-spewing deadite). romulus i think tries to do this by confronting rain with a version of andy who understands that he's been devalued and disregarded, and who no longer values rain or her priorities. i guess to me, him turning evil felt cathartic, and him returning to normal felt like a regression. it didn't feel like rain did anything to "earn" her brother back, if that makes sense. ugh there's something so grim about the face journey he does when he's told rain is going to abandon him, because he literally can't be upset—it goes against his programming and it looks like it hurts a little.
rain's decision to not abandon him, and to rewrite his programming so he can have his own autonomy should feel like huge wins, but the movie doesn't develop her relationship with that original version of andy. so to me it felt like andy woke up, rain said "don't worry, i did a character arc while u were asleep" and he said "okay. yay 💖" which i thought fell incredibly flat. all i'm saying is that if someone tried to abandon me on a planet where i would either die of neglect or be pulled apart for scraps, a quick apology would not be enough for me. i think he should've killed her maybe.
i don’t personally like these movies but i wanted to recommend them for your sibling horror search. terrifier 2 and 3 both involve a pair of siblings. the 3rd one focuses less on the sibling dynamic but it’s definitely still present!
yesssssss, i love terrifier!!!!! especially 2. and if 4 doesn't include some hellspawn version of jonathan or something i will be very upset. still can't believe they offscreened my boy.
thanks for the rec anyway!! i've actually included 2 in my series already, but i didn't fully love the movie back when i made the art, so i might redo it and include it in a new set sometime. i'm also planning to include 3 in a set, if i can ever figure out compositions for the rest of the movies
Another sibling horror rec! It's not a very good movie, but the bridge curse 2 is very sibling focused
i looked this up last night when i was very tired and only found a video game, but i think i've found the right movie now. it looks kind of bonkers and the reviews are very negative, so i think it'll be perfect, thank you!! 💛
hi! i saw someone reposting your art on tiktok and was wondering if you were okay with that as i can’t seem to find anything about it anywhere on your profile. just wanted to be sure!
blech yea i don't like when people do that, but tbh it's already happened enough times that i can't really do much abt it. i used to see my own stuff on pinterest all the time. thanks for letting me know anyway, tho!
and yeah, psa blanket rule is that i don't want my stuff reposted
have you read the webcomic "his face all red" bc if not. boy is that up your alley (and its free!) horror sibling story for real
i actually had read it before, but i had completely forgotten about it, so thanks for the reminder to reread! it was much shorter than i remember but i do like it a lot!
I don't think I saw it in your list yet, so I def recommend the "Fear Street" movie trilogy for your siblings in horror.
First movie has two pair of siblings and 2nd one has two sisters as the main focus. 3rd one is the least sibling focus, but they at least exist.
(They're not super intense horror horror movies, more like slasher supernatural horror. 3rd gets bonus points for being kinda a period piece. I'm honest tho, I esp love the movies for the gays in them, haha)
i always think fear street is a kid's movie, and i have no idea why because i definitely have seen the bread slicer scene and they definitely don't put that kinda gore in kid horror.......
i think i will add just part two to the list for now, because i have kind of a weird feeling about this series, and i'm not sure it'll be my thing, but thank you for the recommendation anyway!!
For horror movie recs for sibling stuff-- since I rewatched it today, I'd suggest Us!
ooooh ok!! i tend not to check out movies about entire family units for this project, because i assume the siblings won't get much specific focus, but i'll add this one to the list! been meaning to watch anyway.. thank you!!
