i really do think one of the best things you can do for your friends (or folks you'd like to become friends with!) is just saying hi? like reaching out, asking and following up about things, trying to organize time for you all to hang out…

it can be so exhausting to have to do all this as a shyer person BUT if you don't do it, cool things are never gonna happen and you'll feel so much worse as time goes on!

i do still wish many of my friends could reach out more and things would be more balanced, but i can take solace in the fact that i know reaching out can easily be the highlight of someone's day, and how grateful i am for the time people have reached out to me as well. 🫶

the fact that many liberals care more about whether a state is "authoritarian" than whether it lifted massive swathes of its population out of poverty says a lot about their politics. they say China is bad because it's authoritarian and brush aside the 800 million people it's lifted out of abject poverty. they complain that Cuba is "authoritarian", while ignoring that it brought healthcare and education to the masses, who were left to suffer under the Batista regime. at some point you have to realize that you're condemning a country that's run in the interests of the working masses of its population

as a tme person with a transfeminine sister it is extremely clear to me that we absolutely do not have an equivalent experience.

she did not experience "male socialization." when i look back on our childhood, it is easy to understand that there was no privilege to that concept. she was forced to try and shrink herself into the shape of a man, and was abused when she didn't succeed at playing the part. being "raised as a boy" only highlighted the stark incongruity between what was expected of her and what she was. this repeatedly led to her facing violence.

and to be clear i genuinely don't care if you think a rude comment from an exasperated trans woman online is as equally bad as the literal risk of her being murdered when she walks outside. this is not a competition, being the most visible is not a prize. i genuinely fear for my sister's life.
