She prefers tea over coffee. Not that she doesn’t drink coffee, she does, but she would much rather be curled up on a couch with a good cup  of tea. She’s learned about how tea blends are made and has started making her own.

Lena does need glasses but he prefers using her contacts because they’re  easier to deal with day to day. Though if she’s feeling lazy or tired she  wears her glasses. It’s a good way to judge her mood at a glance.

She is very cunning. Which can go unnoticed by many people  because of her outward persona. She knows what to say to twist a  conversation her way. Though that doesn’t include lying often. Just a  twist here or a mention of something there. Enough to put the fear in  the right people.

She always keeps a small moleskin sketch book on her person with an  equally small pen. Doesn’t matter how long she’s going somewhere or what  she’s wearing, you never know when inspiration will strike and she  wants to be able to take advantage of it no matter where she is. As of  now, she has drawers full of books with half filled sketches done on  trains, or buses. Faces of people that catch her eye. 

Even though she’s never really had any really close relationships, she wants to have them. On the same side of the coin she’s afraid that if she does have close relationships the bad luck that follows her might end up rubbing off on whoever it is.

Lena wants to find someone who can look through her hard outer shell and not put up with the bullshit she puts up to try to protect others from herself. Inside she’s a very damaged girl who wants someone to fight for her, someone to shake her and tell her that she’s not her mother’s faults.

“God, people.” She let out a knowing huff. She dealt with customers both at the pet shop and Java Lava, she knew how annoying and demanding they could be. As if they had the right. Especially with Lena being off duty. If she was in her shoes, Kimi wouldn’t have the self control to bite her tongue. “Well, your manager can’t get mad at me,” she shrugged after half a second of thought, turning to face the woman and bluntly ask: “Do you have a problem? Would you like to share with the class?”

Lena found herself blinking a few times, not expecting Kimi to be so blunt. She could feel a smirk on her face as she watched the lady start to splutter out half sentences. Already, she could tell that today was gonna be a decent day. The woman finally managed to get out a sentence, “Well yes, I have a problem. She works here and she’s not helping me.” She huffed and crossed her arms, glaring at Kimi.

“I don’t work here now.” Lena muttered under her breath, taking a step towards Kimi, but glaring up at the woman, smirk still on her face.

“Sounds great, let me help you with these.” Kit took all the books she was holding and nudged her to move away from the other woman’s view. “So…do we check this out or?” He paused, observing the amount of book she reads. “You’re sure do love to read, huh.” Kit released a slight chuckle before putting the items on the counter for check out. “What seems to be the fuss? Oh, Kit Charming, by the way. A pleasure.” He extends his hand for a firm handshake. 

Kit observed the kind of books she’s bought and he seemed fascinated by it. “I know we’re only playing a part, but it seems like I do want to extend my offer realistically and talk about these books. If you don’t mind.” He continued, checking and reading the summaries of the books at the back. “I’m trying to be more invested in books, I believe it’s a necessity to do well with my business. What do you think?”

Lena stood a bit shocked at his forwardness but quickly shrugged it off. Well if he was going to carry everything she was gonna let him. “Yeah, but I’ve got my employee card. Which let’s me take quite a bit out.” She shrugged and looked at the stack of books he was carrying. It was a fair amount but she could probably finish them in a couple of days. “I guess. When I grew up it was really the only thing I did. I don’t read as much anymore.” Lena reaches out and returns his handshake with a firm one of her own. “Lena Poe. Same I guess.”

“Huh. I mean sure. I’ve got nothing better to do and talking about books is one of the things I hate the least.” She smirked with a shrug. “Invested in books? Well depends on your business but books are usually helpful in any situation.”

Despite seeing Lena most every day at the library anyways, Willow was elated to see her walk through the doors on her day off and begin a casual perusing through the long aisles of their shared workplace. In all actuality, the blonde loved the dark-haired girl, loved her attitude and her fire, strived on the daily to make her smile at least once. But, she had quickly found out, after begin given her independence, that she could be a bit much for some people, so she hadn’t approached. She went about her own shift, doing just as she was supposed to, like a good little librarian.

Meeting them in the middle was sort of a surprise, but when they almost crashed into one another, she tried her best to not show her excitement. “ You’re okay. Totally cool. It happens. No biggie. ” She was going for casual, a few books in her hand as well, ones she was putting away for someone else to pick up. When told that she was trying to avoid someone, Willow’s baby blues widened just a bit. “ Oh. ” It was a soft, drawled-out sound, as she leaned in a bit. “ Do you need help ? Is it a weird ex or something ? I can totally hide you away in our stockroom if you need. I have my key card if you don’t, ” she explained, always eager to help but especially wanting to help Lena.

Lena was surprised for a moment when she heard Willow’s voice. Though she shouldn’t have been. She had seen her moving through the stacks once or twice during the time she’s been at the library. Her shoulders visibly relaxed as she knew that she would help her. “Yes I need help,” even just saying that made her mother’s voice start up in her mind but she grabbed her necklace and tried to ignore it, “nothing really major. Just me not wanting to get fired on my day off. This lady over here has been following me, trying to get me to help her. Not gonna happen. Maybe shake her off my tail?”

Kit is an avid reader though his looks and demeanor doesn’t show it. It was an acquired trait. Charles wanted him to learn as much as possible and Kit felt like taking classes wasn’t enough. He had to read more to learn more. 

He found himself inside a nearby bookstore scanning for business and real estate books, occasionally he gets psychology books to improve his social skills. While he was walking along the aisle of books, he heard a cough nearby. It seemed worrisome how disturbing it was so Kit figured he’d lend his handkerchief to the coughing woman nearby – that is until he ran into someone and books fell onto the floor. “Oh, so sorry about that.” Kit immediately took the books from the ground and saw an older looking woman looking disdainfully at the other woman he bumped into. Right from the looks of it, he realized the cause of so much coughing. “Yeah, I saw that.” He whispered as he held her books for her when a bright idea came to his mind.. “I’ve been looking for you. I do have some question to ask. Mind we leave here and I treat you for a coffee?” He said with a slightly raised voice as he accompanied her out of the older woman’s sight. 

Lena moved to pick up her books but by the time she recovered her balance, the man in front of her had already picked up her books. “Sorry as well. I wasn’t looking.” She was looking him over, trying to see if she knew him but his face wasn’t familiar and Lena would definitely recognize a face like his. “Oh right, that was today, wasn’t it.” She definitely wasn’t the best actress but she could definitely get by in a situation like this. Was it dangerous to leave with someone she didn’t know? Maybe, but she was trained to protect herself so she would take that over dealing with this woman today. “I would love that. I haven’t had my caffeine fix for the day. I could use a pick me up.”

“Some people have the wrong assumptions about this store. I mean, they think that we actually want to help them,” it was a joke but it wasn’t. Coraline shoved her hands into the pockets of her coat. She almost felt stupid for assuming Lena was listening to music because of course she wasn’t. That was such a Lena thing to do. But still, almost anyone would have thought that so she tried to keep that creeping anxiety in. “Working here has been both the best and worst thing to enter my life. I don’t know how people work in any kind of retail and enjoy the customers that come in.”

Lena let out a small bark of a laugh, “Getting payed what we get payed, they’re lucky we help them with a semblance of a smile at all.” She knew that she should play nice. It didn’t mean that she wanted to. As much as she tried not to, she still could hear her mother telling her that she’s above all of these people. Lena hated it, but she also couldn’t not hear the voice echoing in her mind. “It’s all about the illusion of caring. Some are just better at it than most. That or they’ve just gone insane.”

Cindy didn’t have much off time between work, studies, keeping a social life, karate lessons, you name it. But, the girl certainly did enjoy a good chapter or two of any sort of book to just let herself escape a little bit. That, and books were becoming a big thing it seemed. So many new ones she had to get her hands on to understand what everyone was talking about. Blinking a few times she leaned back slightly ready for the impact sure to come. “Well… at least you didn’t actually take me out. I mean, I know I’m being quite that’s the thing with a book store and all, but still a figure.” she let out trying to sound joking, but she knew it had to come across rough. “Who are we avoiding?” She asked looking over the others shoulder a bit confused. “Boyfriend, ex friend, girlfriend , ex  in general?” 

“Well you’d be one of the few who actually follow the rules.” Lena huffed and brushed herself off a little. “I’m not really in the habit of knocking people over.” She crossed her arms and sighed. It wasn’t the woman in front of her’s fault but it didn’t stop her from being annoyed. Then again, she knew she also came across as a bit annoyed at everything, well that’s because she usually was. “The lady behind me. I work here, just not today. She seems to think that just because I work here I should be available to her all the time. Even if I’m not working if I’m rude to her I know I’ll hear about it tomorrow.”

Kimi was looking for a new coloring book. Coloring wasn’t one of her main hobbies, but it was a nice way to unwind while being creative, and she’d already nearly filled up her favorite one. Sure, she didn’t have to go to a bookstore, but she was kind of hoping to find an interesting novel too, something to read when she couldn’t sleep or was on a particularly long and boring ride. Glancing up when she heard the ‘oh’, Kimi shrugged it off at first. Until Lena said she was trying to avoid someone. “No problem, do you need me to shield you?” She glanced around, trying to catch sight of someone that seemed to be looking around. “Do you need me to beat someone up? I can do that too.”

Lena’s eyebrows went up in surprise for a second before she laughed softly. “No, I don’t need you to beat anyone up. If you could just get this lady to leave me alone that would be great.” She quickly looked over her shoulder to see the middle aged woman still standing there. “She thinks I’m working and I’m not. I would tell her off but I don’t need my manager giving me trouble about it the next time I come in for work. I thought the headphones would be a give away. But some people are even too stupid for common sense, I guess.”

Coraline had just finished her shift and was ready to head out the door when Lena ran into her. Lena was such an interesting girl; she kept to herself a lot, looked a little pissed off at the world, and Coraline respected that. She noticed the headphones before she even tried to say something. Then she noticed the old lady trying to get her attention. Probably assumed Lena was working even though it was obvious she wasn’t. “Excuse us, m’am,” Coraline said, half-polite. “We are kind of in the middle of something…So go ask the other employees in all black about the book you want. She isn’t on the clock and she isn’t going to help you.” The old woman scoffed and muttered something about speaking to the manager, but Coraline didn’t care. Management wasn’t going to do shit. “There. Now you can listen to your music and browse in peace, Lena.”

Lena let out a sigh of relief as she realized the person she had nearly run into was Coraline. At least she knew that she would have her back. Working at the bookstore wasn’t really hard work but sometimes the people made it so much worse. “Thanks Coraline. She’s been following me down the whole aisle. If I would have said something it would have been a lot more nasty. I think she recognized my face. Which is creepy in it’s own right.” She rolled her eyes and patted the necklace she always wore gently. “Oh, I wasn’t actually listening to anything. It usually keeps people away from me. Usually being the key word. Sometimes people are so stubborn. Just because I work here sometimes doesn’t mean I’m always here to answer all of their dumb questions.”

Just because Lena worked at a bookstore didn’t mean that she liked books. Okay, she did but that was besides the point. Sometimes even on her days off she liked to come in and check out the new books they had gotten in stock. It was one of these times as she was leafing through a new historical fiction when she heard a cough next to her. She ignored it and continued looking through her book until the voice coughed again, louder and more pronounced. Oh, absolutely not. Lena knew what was happening but she wasn’t going to work on her day off, especially if they weren’t even going to try to be polite. This was the reason she always had headphones in, even if they had no music playing. Turning and walking the other direction, book still in hand, she didn’t realize that someone was in front of her until she almost crashed into them. “Oh. Uh sorry I guess. I’m trying to avoid someone.” she said as she looked over to see an older woman tapping her foot on the ground. Hopefully the person who she ran into would be willing to help her out here.

✨ Biography:

Life is complicated when you are the daughter of one of the most infamous witches in Animania. Malina De Spell aka Magica De Spell was once one of the most powerful witches ever. She had the world under her and was ready to take it all, when she was defeated by Scrooge McDuck and was sealed away with her magic. Everyone thought she was dead and gone, but Lena knows better. Instead, she is very much alive and in the necklace she hangs around her neck. Call it family ties, but Lena just….doesn’t know how to get rid of her. And because she is a De Spell, her magic was basically sealed away too except for when she channels it from the necklace, well, her mother. Her mother could talk too, and often whispered things into Lena’s ears about how the McDuck family deserved something bad coming to them and that Lena would be their downfall. And for a long time, Lena believed it. She practiced whatever magic she had and she used her mother’s rage to fuel her. She wasn’t sure why, since her mother never did a single thing for her in life, but she couldn’t just find it in her to abandon the one thing she demanded of her.

And then she met Willow. Sweet, younger Willow who lived in the McDuck manor and could easily be manipulated into getting Lena what she needs to take the family down. And that was the plan at first. She knew that the mostly male family wouldn’t hear any of it, but Willow? She was her chance. But as Lena got to know her she started having doubts. WIllow took her in and treated her like a friend right off the bat and Lena had never had any friends before. She hadn’t even left her home before her mother was imprisoned in her necklace. And as she gets a taste of the life she was missing she was really starting to rethink it all. Maybe she could just…keep things going like this. Just deal with her mothers whispers and live the life she wants to. But she also knew her magic was getting weaker. Over time the amulet her mother is in has started to form cracks and dimming. Lena isn’t sure if her mother is fading away or trying to break out and she knows that she is going to have to find a way to fix the necklace. She just doesn’t know how to do that without telling someone her entire life story and she knows the moment she does that with Willow or anyone that she will lose it all. No one trusts a De Spell, which is why she is going by her alleged father’s name. She wants to do the right thing but it might be too late for her.
