This is an original character designed for use within Hazbin Hotel Universe. (mun is 21+) I apologize in advance for writing short replies. I’ll try to avoid one-liners. I don’t roleplay smut or accept Magic Anons. Please reblog memes from the source. I don’t have much in the way of rules other than that.

Character Profile:

Name: Lenore Decatur

Species: sloth demon

Height: 6’4”

Description: Lenore is a sloth demon who typically wears light blue pajamas decorated with red hearts and who carries a plain black messenger bag. Her fur looks like that of an average sloth, but she has green, shoulder-length hair. She appears to be able to see normally despite keeping her eyes shut. On the rare occasions she opens them, they appear as dark as the abyss.

Abilities: Lenore knows lots of things. Unfortunately, she doesn’t always remember specifics and she can get details wrong. It’s a good thing she always carries her magic bag with her. She’s also surprisingly flexible for someone who doesn’t like to move around much.

Special Item: Lenore owns a magic bag that allows her to summon a copy of a book from the living world. She must know *at least* the title of the book before she summons it, and she needs to put the book back in the bag before she summons another one.

Personality: Lenore wishes she was optimistic. Mostly, she’s just tired. While she can play the part of the strawman nihilist, she admires those who try to improve the state of the world.

Backstory: Lenore was always interested in the pursuit of knowledge. However, as she grew older, her growing disdain for the violence that seemed to go hand-in-hand with nature caused her desires to darken. She wanted to know it ALL and to figure out how it all connected. She believed that if she learned the secrets of creation, that she could undo it, plunging the cosmos back into the void. After years of trying, she realized that her mortal mind couldn’t manage to remember it all, let alone keep it straight. She gave up and withdrew into herself. Eventually, one day, her sister discovered her body. She had drowned in the bathtub.

Everyone asks boring questions about people’s characters, like “what’s their favorite color” or “what’s their favorite food” and not “What does their Psychonauts Level look like?”

Hmm… Lenore’s Psychonauts level…

Depending on how long she’s been in Hell, there might be references to her OCD, like needing doors to be shut in order to progress. There would also be a lot of water features between her frequent need when alive to wash her hands and the fact that she died due to drowning in her bathtub. She also refused to eat during her first week in Hell and was a vegetarian until a year or two ago and only recently dipping her toes into cannibalism, so there might be references to those things as well.

There might be a secret area for people who figure out what her name was when she alive, because it was not Lenore Decatur back then.

“Will you please eat me once you get bored of me? I’m tired of always having to start over somewhere new.”

"Aww, sweetie, I doubt I'll get bored of ya for at least another hundred years!" Rosie pinched the sloth's adorable cheeks and gave her a sharp grin. "But I promise when that time does come, I'll make a feast outta ya. Four-course, with wine 'n dessert."

Lenore, as always, let Rosie pinch her cheeks.

“Awesome, thank you. I worry that I don’t do enough to earn my keep. Maybe I should try learning an instrument or start singing again. Or is there something else I could do? I’m afraid I’m not good for much.”

The sloth attempted to sneak up behind Alastor.

“Hey, Alastor, can you read this?”

She held up a piece of paper.

The attempt didn't work; maybe by virtue of him having sharp hearing, or the simple fact that he had a familiar that kept a constant eye out around him even when it wasn't immediately visible. His neck snapped one-eighty degrees around to look back at her the moment he was aware of her presence. The question, however, elicits a blink and the raise of a brow as it catches him off guard, his body spinning to face the right way around.

"What is this, now?" he asked, interested in why someone would be a hand reaching to take the paper. It took him a moment, bringing it closer as his other hand came up to adjust his monocle. Most thought it was just for show, even though he had a rather obvious lazy eye as a result of the farsightedness. But he did look through it whenever he was inspecting things up close; he didn't even try to hide that he needed it for that. His right eye was significantly worse than the left, which made examining anything up close a trial in and of itself.

As he looked through the red lens of the monocle, however, something like surprise crossed his features. A secondary, easier hidden function of it was that the color of the glass made some of the colors stand out more vividly. Once he settled the lens, he brought his claw up to roughly trace the shape. He did see it, but he only seemed to catch part of the letter.

"Is that a 'P'? It looks..." Alastor paused as he trailed off, looking up at her sharply. His eyes narrowed in suspicion. "What is this, Lenore?"

The sloth beamed, giving a smile that could match one of Alastor’s own.

“It’s a color blindness test. The letter ‘A’ is in the middle.”

She paused in thought.

“I always wondered about the red monocle. I guess it’s not just for aesthetics. It helps with the color blindness, huh? Fascinating.”

Lenore handed Rosie a small bag filled with gems.

“I hope this is enough to compensate for you taking care of me all this time.”

"Aw, sweetie, you don't gotta do that!" Rosie pressed the bag back into Lenore's hand. "It's a treat enough just to see your sweet face."

Lenore nervously held onto the bag.

“Thank you. I just wanted to pay you back for everything and I had found some old jewelry that I had forgotten about… so, yeah….”

The sloth looked flustered.

Terrible enough for mortals 'n hellborn, but for sinners, constantly healin' up from wounds big 'n small, it'll be a long time before this does 'em in."

Lenore’s eyes opened and widened.

“Dude, that’s sick! You could totally nick somebody and then bottle the blood as it comes out. You could do like vampires and keep various vintages from different species and stuff.”

The sloth asked after taking the time to personally repaint Alastor’s room a vibrant neon pink.

His room, the guestroom there at the Emporium, was rather small, all told. A temporary stay the other overlord had offered him for when he saw fit to visit Rosie, mostly, and didn't desire walking all the way back to his quaint little townhouse, or when she requested he stay. Most didn't know of the existence of the townhouse, beyond a select few—Rosie, Mimzy, Niffty, namely—that he had chosen to share its existence with. A good thing, too, as he might've killed the girl for this, had it been the townhouse. To say he was protective of that space was an understatement.

This, at least, was a room that he was hardly that attached to... of course he liked it to not be an eyesore, but he could tolerate it. He was more concerned with the fresh-paint smell than the color as he brought a hand up to adjust his monocle, peering through the red lens. Most thought it a simple affectation, of which Alastor was known to have many with little real meaning behind them. But this one was real; Hell had, for whatever odd reason, only corrected the vision in one of his eyes, leaving his near sight flawed in the right eye. That, and the fact he only wore a monocle, not full spectacles, was the cause for the one lazy eye he now featured quite prominently in his afterlife. No one gave him issue for it like they had in life, of course.

"My sense of humor ends with that tacky shade of purple," Alastor spoke finally with a grin, his hand drawn back to rest on his chest, an expression landing on his face as if he was truly aghast by this choice as he shook his head animatedly. "I mean, heavens! It clashes with everything in here, my dear."

The sloth looked at Alastor, then looked at the wall. She looked at Alastor again. She looked at the paintbrush, still in her hand.

She smirked.

“Purple, you say? And what would you prefer, praytell? Arsenic green? Perhaps some yellow wallpaper?”

She wondered if the deer even understood her story reference or if he was as ignorant to that as he was to his little issue with colors.

“I have a confession to make… I actually indulged in auto-cannibalism when I was alive.”

"Did ya, now?" Rosie put an arm around Lenore. "What was it, an' how much? Bits of skin? Drops of blood?"

“I’d nibble on my cuticles; pick at my skin and lap up the blood. I was one of those people who’d pop their zits and eat what came out. I’d pick my scabs off and eat those as well.”

The sloth shrugged.

“I started licking the blood to try to keep it from staining my sleeves, but I discovered that I liked the taste of it. I can’t say I’ve checked out my flavor profile since I’ve died and become this though. I don’t want to deal with all the fur, and I don’t want to shave it off just to get a taste. I don’t want people thinking I’ve got mange or something.”

“I guess the reason I’m so anxious is that I had a dream where Vox managed to capture Lucifer and used him as a battery for a laser cannon powerful enough to blow the pearly gates off of Heaven. But that could never really happen, right? And I’ve had bad dreams my entire life and afterlife, so that’s nothing new….”

"Hush." Rosie pressed a cup of lavender tea and a saucer into Lenore's hands. "It won't do ya any good to worry so much, sweetheart. This may be Hell, but ya gotta have faith that things can get better for ya. An' try smilin' more! Trust me, it really does help."

Lenore accepted the cup and saucer and sipped the tea.

“Maybe I should start reading again or something. Keep myself preoccupied. That’s what I did when I was alive. I just read all the time, at least until the Internet became more mainstream and available.”

She tugged at her bag with a foot, since her hands were full.

“I guess that’s why I got this bag when I died. It lets me summon any one book from the living world as long as I know the title and author.”

“I don't know what I would do if something happened to you. This city was built because of people like you.”

"Aww, worried about me, honey? That's sweet of ya, but nobody's got what it takes to bring me down." Lenore gets her cheeks pinched and a soft kiss on the nose from Rosie.

The sloth blushed, but pouted.

“Not yet, but they’re coming up with crazier weapons every day. I mean, Vox probably knows about nuclear weapons, which are the only thing other than angelic steel that can possibly destroy souls. What if he combines the two? He seems desperate enough for attention to do so.”

Rosie couldn't help but cackle. "You think he's smart enough to build something like that? Or anyone else dumb enough to build it for him? No, he ain't gonna escalate that far. He'd make way too many enemies, an' not just in Pride."

“I hope you’re right. Of course, he could always make a dirty bomb. You don’t need to be smart to make one of those. You’d just need the materials,” the sloth mused.

Angelic steel was easy enough to find and repurpose. Demons built entire businesses on that, Carmine’s just been the highest quality. The likelihood of finding nuclear materials in Hell was still something to be looked into.

"Lenore. Sweetie. If ya keep worryin' about the future, you'll never live in the present." Rosie cupped the sloth's cheeks and tilted her head up. "We Overlords know how to keep each other in check. Forget about the what-ifs and focus on what's real. You ever feel unsafe in the big city, you're always welcome in Cannibal Town."

“Thank you. I’m not so much worried about myself as I am about the ones I know, and the ones I used to know. I’ve pretty much already moved in here, but there’s demons I knew out there, or what if somebody dropped the bomb here on Cannibal Town for spite. I know Alastor comes around from time to time.”
