Here are some gifs I made for a homework in my computer class :) My teacher told us to explore MIT App Inventor and make any app we wanted to, so I brainrotted… I tried to make a pet game like Pou but it was hard, so I did the next best thing

Evrard's Black Stone Road Trip (meta)

So now that we can reasonably assume we have the entirety of Evrard’s Black Stone Road Trip plan on the table, I wanted to talk about it a little. Setting aside any discussion of the effectiveness of its timeskip/flashback format, and its effect on the characters and emotional impact, the plan itself I at first found really unconvincing. But now that we have the full picture, I’ve been rotating it to find the angle I think makes the most sense.

‘Cause come on, I think a lot of us raised an eyebrow when Evrard the cultist-killer decided on the spot to trust Arthur, of all people, to protect the Destroys the Universe device. But at this point I think it’s clear that he didn’t. Arthur wasn’t the trusted anchor runner in their fellowship: he was the patsy.

It was a gamble and it didn’t work. And the show spends no time post Antoine reveal to clarify or recontextualize the trip as a whole, there simply isn’t time, so I dunno if any of what I’m supposing below is the intended conclusion, but it makes the most sense to me.

So from what Evrard tells us, sometime before Arthur was shot back in time, he became aware of dark forces seeking the stone. He knew that something would come for it, and that he would not be able to protect it. 

It could be that Evrard/Alia sensed Kayne himself after the stone. We don’t know for certain why Kayne had to move Arthur to a different reality to get to the Black Stone - either the multiverse contains only one, or this is just the closest one that Kayne was able to get whereabouts for. But it’s clear that Kayne has been trying to get THIS stone for a while, so it may be that his previous attempts are what tipped Evrard off. Or maybe it was always a bad idea to invite cultists to your castle and then TELL THEM you had the stone and word got out that way - but whatever the case, Evrard knew the stone had to move.

There is no person who can be trusted with the stone. It’s the One Ring, more or less. Alia suggests the plan: they hide it inside Antoine, and protect him with her tattoo wards, so that he can get it away from the castle without anyone knowing. The two of them alone probably wouldn’t get far, but a very large group might draw attention. So they decide the group will be four people: two who know the secret, and two who don’t, who are only there to protect and disguise the stone by focusing on the empty chest. No more than would be absolutely necessary.

So while those preparations are underway, Evrard meets Arthur, who has the coin from the three soldiers. When Evrard sees it, he says this:

LORD EVRARD: This coin… is a token. A marker for those who silently stand against the darker forces of this world, as I have chosen to do. I had given it to the soldiers so that they may seek allies as they navigate within the den of wolves, but even in their death, I know they held its secret close. They would have had to have gifted it to you, for beyond its significance to me, it is worthless.

But this is not true. The soldiers met Arthur in the Dreamlands and handed him the coin when they saw him carrying the bestiary. At the time, this book was only known as “the book with Shub’s symbol on it”, and the soldiers were known (via CoC1) to have been devoted to Shub. They recognized Arthur as a devotee, like them, and thus gave him the coin. That book belonged to Antoine when he was evil, after all. 

Furthermore, this is what Kayne said of the soldiers:

KAYNE: Entie, Erwin, and Neitsh! Those stooges! They were the ones sent to retrieve the stone, only… they got a little distracted on the way. One of them fell into the power-hungry mindset that seems oh-so-prevalent with these… Order boys. And tried to bring about Shub-Niggurath! 

Now, we don’t know how the multiverse in this canon intersects with the Dreamlands. The soldiers that Arthur met may or may not have been the same solders Evrard is talking about, or even the same soldiers Kayne was talking about. But according to Kayne these soldiers were after the stone, and were distracted by Shub. In this Shub-less world with no distractions, they would only be interested in the stone. It could be that in Evrard’s time, they really were good  like Antoine turned out to be, BUT, Kayne is after THIS stone. So I posit that they were bad here, too. That they would have given the stone to Kayne, that Evrard knew, and that he killed them.

Thus Antoine knows they’re dead, but he doesn’t know how they died. Evrard kept it from him.

So Evrard sees the coin. He knows the soldiers gave it to Arthur - he knows that confirms Arthur is just as much after the stone as anyone, but specifically, like the soldiers he’s working for Kayne. And this is good for Evrard, actually. Because if he kills Arthur, Kayne will just send someone else. But the specific threat he’s worried about is right here, and he has the chance to obfuscate the stone’s location for Arthur AND for the greater threat behind him.

The idea is that the stone is entirely hidden by Antoine and Alia’s efforts. But having Arthur along keeps his focus on the decoy chest, along with anything else that is hunting him or the stone. If Arthur grabs the chest and runs off? Perfect, he’s taken the bait and Antoine can continue in the other direction, separating the stone from those who want it, who will never know where it went. If Arthur stays true to his word, Antoine drops dead somewhere in the wilderness and no one is left alive to reveal the stone. His body rots where it fell and the stone, invisible to those that want it most, may be “lost” again.

Not a surefire plan by any means. But there isn’t a human or a place that can keep it safe indefinitely, EVERYONE is eventually susceptible to its corruption. Evrard knows that very well. So the best he can do with Kayne on his heels is to let it be lost, where no human can give it up because they don’t know where it is.

ARTHUR: There’s no way out of this. There is no destination safe enough. No solution to the problem of the Blackstone. There’s only… pushing the ball forward. For as long as we can. (Antoine makes a noise of pain.)

ANTOINE: Yes, m’lord. 

ARTHUR: Until we can’t anymore. (Sounds of shifting.)

JOHN: Antoine… lays down. He’s… closing his eyes. 

ARTHUR: I’m sorry, Antoine, I… 

ANTOINE: You understand, m’lord.

Pushing the ball forward, for as long as you can. Once Antoine confirms that Arthur has learned this “lesson” he lies down to die. If Arthur had picked up the chest and kept walking, it would have saved the world - Antoine dies at the edge of the swamp and the stone is lost. If Arthur had his confrontation with Lilith far enough away, they never would have discovered it on his body. After all, Antoine makes NO effort to tell Arthur the truth. He even comes close to accusing Arthur of wanting to steal it for himself. He protects it with his life and never gives up his own kind of hope: that Arthur will never find it.

When Arthur sits down to light his fire, despite what he says, he’s not thinking about “hope.” Hope implies a desired outcome of some kind - Arthur’s fire is about defiance, like it always has been when it comes to the Gods. He knows he can’t win but he wants Lilith to know that he did not give up. The performance of defiance matters more than what Alia actually told him to do, which was to carry on with the mission after Antoine died. But Arthur has already cast himself as the protagonist of the story, and thus is convinced that standing face to face with Lilith (knowing he’ll lose) is more important, more correct that trying to keep running. 

Aaaaaand then Kayne shows up and he just straight up hands it to him, lol. Which is also because Arthur is convinced he’s the protagonist. It’s why he was able and willing to climb onto the slab in Part 12, why he slit his own throat to deny the King in Yellow his prize in Part 20, even why he blamed himself for John trying to kill Oscar at the farm. He is convinced that he matters, in every context, against any foe. He demands of Kayne, “Promise me you won’t destroy all of reality.” As if that would ever convince the Crawling Chaos.

Even if the first part with Evrard knowing Arthur was an agent of Kayne is too far-fetched, this much we know: Evrard sent all of them out to die. He puffed Arthur up and sent him away and then waited to die himself. He didn’t have hope that “something” would just magically appear and spare them from the apocalypse, and it wasn’t just a hail mary delay for a few extra days for humanity, it was hope that Arthur the monster-magnet would suitably distract Kayne and Lilith from the stone for as long as it took for it to disappear. He tried to get Yorick away from Arthur knowing exactly what he was and that he could give the secret away - Alia is bound to a vanguard of her own, is there ANY way she didn’t recognize what he is? Even Antoine poked at that. 

They did not trust Arthur, but they didn’t have to for this plan. And it almost worked.

Hello !! I'm back for a bit :)

My club has this artist alley for our school fair so I made some stuff!! This is first post out of three :3

Honestly I was a little disappointed when I realized the fandoms I liked a lot wouldn't sell 💀 I don't know anyone in my school that knows Malevolent, and I've only met two people who know TMA (who aren't part of my friendgroup)... It's devastating.....!!! But anyway at least I did find something to draw that I liked, and it came out well :)

Over the Garden Wall x Malevolent

I have been BRAINROTTING over this for the past week. FROG JOHN. IMAGINE FROG JOHN. IMAGINE THE DYNAMIC.

Basically it takes place after Arthur slits his throat in the Dreamlands. It's some sort of hallucination or bridge between life and death like OTGW. Since Faroe already died before, she was already in The Unknown (no idea what to call it yet) before Arthur got there (she's already dead sooo she won't join Arthur if he leaves The Unknown).

Uh so far the cast would be Arthur, Faroe, Frog John, Beast King in Yellow (soon-to-be Frog King in Yellow), Lantern holder Kayne, Woodsman Kellin, and idk what else. Still dk who Beatrice would be (could be Oscar but he hasn't met Oscar yet but also ig he exists in Malevolent so maybe still)
