“benjy,” leo greeted, happily throwing his arm around his friend - he was much more present than he had been the last time he saw the ravenclaw. “thanks for the help the other day, i’ve figured out what the potion was - and now i know i can’t drink it.” but he still needed to move it because it was blocking what he really wanted and the barrel was too heavy to move and magic-proof. unfortunate. “enough about my adventures though, what have you been up to?”

as soup boy, man of the broth - sponsored by campbells - leo had an unlimited supply of soup ( and okay maybe he wasn’t sponsored by campbells yet but the elves let him call them campbells and that was close enough ). “miss black, i got you something.” he had managed to transfigure a bowl of soup into a classic can - complete with campbells branding. “this soup will tell your future, it’s my thank you gift for your help for the other day.”

you know, joining duelling club was supposed to be educational but everyone today was just standing around gossiping. and so he tried to follow suit. “hey, miss black did you hear that the gryffindors managed to destroy the portrait of children flying on the third floor?” honestly leo wasn’t sure that was true in any way, but it was fun to say. “totally unravelled the spellwork, so now the kids are without a frame.”

an outsider, was one way to describe leo borgin. floating between worlds was what he did best and it was then and only then that he truly felt comfortable. slippery snake some would say - but in truth he was more like a flighty squirrel, which is why he was running through the castle at a breakneck speed when he nearly crashed into xeno. “xeno! the soup of the day is cream of broccoli, you know.”

“I love the implication that that’s the only reason the soup isn’t poisoned,” Addison throws her bag across the hall, walking after it as it slides and hits the wall with a loud thud, then sinking down right beside it on Leo’s left. “Which is, honestly, a disservice to us both. Reckon half a bowl is enough to keep the old hag away? C’mon, give me that spoon. That life-saving..vegetable..goo.”

“It is the only reason, that and poison prices are really high this time of year - I just can’t afford it.” He sighed dramatically, placing his head in his hands as he let out a fake sob. “I reckon sitting her with bowls of it and talking to it would attract the old hag - eating any of it should repell.” He cringed when she called it vegetable goo, offended on behalf of the delicious soup but handed her the spoon nonetheless.

“soup boy, man of the broth…” she snorts and rolls her eyes as she rests her chin on her knee. “you’re bitter about getting a detention for something you SHOULD have gotten a detention for?” mary arches a brow at him and plays with the end of her skirt. “i dread to think what you do about detentions you don’t deserve, borgin.”

he grins when she snorts at his ridiculous pun, glad that someone could appreciate his sense of humour even if it was a gryffindor. “more than eat soup in a corridor, macdonald. far more than that. but lets not talk about the theoretical - what is your reaction to getting a detention?”

frank chuckled as he slurped another spoon of soup and nodded solemnly, with the other hand in which he wasn’t  holding the spoon, he drummed his fingers against the shiny prefect badge. ‘ sure am, i don’t see how this is against the rules as it’s in our own free time and we are not skipping any classes.’

leo hadn’t noticed the prefect badge and grimaced slightly when his attention was drawn to it - well that wasn’t great. “well i suppose i should warn you that the divination teacher hates soup, loathes it really. and they get right mad at the sight of it, plus their classroom is you know right there.”

“he’s a niffler! i found him and he’s mine!” ted was well aware he looked like a petulant child as he clutched the creature to his chest, but he couldn’t really find it in himself to care. he had been thinking that a pet would be the perfect addition to their room, but leo didn’t seem to agree. “come on, look at his cute little face, leo. you can’t say no to this!” he cooed at the niffler, who was looking back at him with a face that ted thought looked mildly amused. “’sides, he kind of reminds me of you—what, being an adorable little thief, and all. maybe we can call him LEO JR.”

“that’s not how - “ leo stopped his argument realizing how hypocritical it would be to tell ted that just because he found something didn’t mean he could keep it. with a deep sigh, he changes course. “have you asked the others? and better yet can you promise that he won’t hurt the cats in an aim to get shiny things?” one of the others could be the one to say no, he didn’t see the fuss enough to care. “leo junior? not bad, i suppose i can approve.”

lucinda was just about to get to her potions class, when suddenly, someone spoke to her. the girl stopped in her tracks and noticed leo borgin sitting on the flour, offering her some soup. lucinda raised her eyebrows at the boy. “you know, borgin, there’s this thing called the great hall. where we eat. i’m certain the floor is the last place you should be eating from. and to answer your question.. no.”

leo sighed - he had never been one for all the pureblood niceties and manors and whatnot. they seemed a little bit pompous and took way too much energy - and even thinking about them made him yawn. “talkalot, haven’t you ever heard of having fun? besides, the great hall is where i eat breakfast - soup is not breakfast.”

alice rolls her eyes at his comment but can’t help but laugh at his pun, “good one”. she sits down next to the male and watches him searching for a bowl. “i’m guessing you do this often then? don’t the house elves notice you’ve been taking cutlery?” she questions him, as she takes the bowl from him. 

“they know, but i return them mostly.” he shrugs as if to say that he doesn’t know, passing her the ladle. “i think they like that i ask for their help with food enough that it distracts them. or maybe they do care, and my head will end up on the front lawn. guess we’ll find out!”

mary actually makes a face as soon as she sits across from leo. the smell has her gagging and she covers her mouth, “who the hell carries SOUP around, leo?!” she squeaks behind her hand. one of her knees is pressed against her chest and she tries to look away. “what is with this latest soup obsession? is that the next victim on voldemort’s list? all the soup canning factories in the united kingdom?”

“a man on a mission. call me soup boy, man of the broth.” he laughed at his own terrible joke, grin on his face as he seals up the soup for now and puts it away. “ah, no but the divination professor hates soup and i’m still bitter about the time i got detention for stealing a crystal ball or seven.”

Divination wasn’t her favourite subject, but the professor insisted that she had a knack for predictions and everything else in between. she was on her way to hand in some homework she’d missed when she heard a voice. “wherein the name of merlin’s beard did you pull that from?” she asked, a laugh leaving her lips as she sat beside him. “still trying to give the poor professor a nervous breakdown with soup?” she asked, a grin appearing on her lips. 

“I have an extended bag for the purpose of soup picnics,” he explained - having multiple extended bags was a life saver. And the featherlight charm? Leo would kill for it. “Trying and thus far, failing. But one day, they’ll come out of their room - see the soup and weap.”

alice had been doing some extra studying for divination and she was dropping off a book back to her professor, when she found leo. the girl raised a brow at his comment, she’d heard through friends of friends that leo would often do this. “soup? seriously?” a sigh escapes her lips, “sure! you’ve got another bowl though? i’m not eating it out of my hands…”. 

leo just smiled at alice’s questioning and nodded. “serious as a black.” laughing at his own pun, he dug in his bag for a second before fingers touched metal. “multiple bowls actually, and spoons.” he said, presenting an example of the dishes that he had nicked from around the castle over the years.

she’d just left the divination classroom when she heard a voice. “I’m good, thank you for the offer!” she laughed slightly, shaking her head. “Why do you have soup?” she asked, leaning against the opposite wall and watching him curiously with her head tilted to the side slightly. she’d never seen someone sit outside a classroom before with soup. she’d seen some strange things but never something like this. 

“you’re welcome,” he replied, before taking a bite of soup. ah, chicken with alphabet letter noodles had been a good choice after all. “i like soup, i’m hungry and who doesn’t love a good picnic?” and by picnic, leo meant an attempt to drive a professor to madness. “why don’t you have soup?”

                 ♕  –– quirking an eyebrow, the blonde’s gaze focused on the hufflepuff’s injured hand. the boy really was an enigma, one that she wasn’t quite sure what to make of. not that she made it a priority to figure him out, they didn’t exactly run in the same circles and outside of the things her parents bought from his own, their only contact happened while at school and narcissa was usually too busy doing well anything else to pay him any mind. at least until today, because now she was curious. “ what in merlin’s name have you been doing borgin? “ she questioned, as she took a step forward reminding herself not to reach out and take his hand in order to get a better look. even if the idea of trying the charms she’d been practicing did enter the back of her mind. 

“ sure, tasty if you want to end up growing an extra head. “ or dying but the observation seemed to morbid for the conversation. “ now that’s one way of drawing attention to yourself. “ she replied with scrunch of her nose. “ but i wasn’t  ––  i wasn’t attempting to take any of them. “ why she was explaining herself, she’d never understand or well she could blame it on the idea of not wanting to be seen as a dirty thief. she was after all better than that, she had class after all. “ it’s more of a… “ her voice trailed off for a second, unsure if she should further the conversation. “ curiosity. “ that was true after all. “ just remembered the name from some of the things slughorn has shared over the years. “  she finished with light nod. “ but if it’s help you’re looking for, i’ve masted a few healing charms… i could, if you’re not looking to wait for pomfrey that is. “

what had he been doing? ah, that was a question that put him in a bit of a bind - did he tell her the truth or test out his cover story? and then it occurred to him that narcissa was a prefect - thus amongst the authority figures at hogwarts and not to be trusted. lying it was. “miscast a spell while practicing for my exams, is all.” practicing for exam, was nowhere near the truth, but it was an easy excuse if nothing else.

“a second head might not be so bad.” might be like carrying around a lookout with you everywhere you go - unless the head can’t talk, and then it’s useless. he sighed, the last thing he wanted was to draw attention to himself, so he set down the flask. “of course not - after all you’re a black, if you wanted a potion you could order it yourself, couldn’t you?” slughorn teaching his students about healing potions? that wasn’t out of the range of possibility. “healing charms? well if you reckon that you might be able to do it why not?”
