The call had come in the middle of an otherwise ordinary day, turning everything upside down in a matter of seconds. Their surrogate's waters had broken early, and within what felt like moments, Isaiah and Leo had found themselves racing through the hospital doors, adrenaline and excitement carrying them forward. The hours that followed had blurred together into a haze of nervous pacing, half-finished cups of coffee, anxious glances at clocks, and constant updates from nurses. Every minute had felt impossibly long. And then, somehow, it was over. The twins were here.
Now, standing in the quiet hallway outside the nursery room where their babies were waiting, Isaiah found himself frozen for the first time all day. The frantic energy that had carried him through the last several hours suddenly vanished, replaced by something softer, heavier. His hand reached for Leo's automatically, squeezing it tightly as he turned to look at him. For a moment, he simply stared. There was so much love in his chest he thought it might split him open. "Hey," he said quietly, his voice rough with emotion. "You know that whatever happens after we walk through that door, we're gonna figure it out, right?" A breathless laugh escaped him. "We're gonna be exhausted and terrified half the time. We'll probably spend the next year wondering if we're doing everything right. But those babies," His eyes flickered toward the room before settling back on Leo. "They're already the luckiest kids in the world because they get to have you as a father."
Isaiah stepped closer, lifting their joined hands between them. "I've wanted this for so long," he murmured, his thumb brushing over Leo's knuckles. "And you're going to be incredible, I can feel it. The late nights, the diapers, the tantrums, the first steps, the parenting, all of it. You're going to love them so much that nothing else is going to matter." His smile widened, watery and genuine. "We're about to go and meet our kids." Then, with a nervous laugh and a final squeeze of Leo's hand, Isaiah glanced toward the door. "Ready to go meet the two people who are about to completely ruin our sleep schedule for the next god knows how long?"

Leo had luckily had the day off when the call came in. He had been quietly putting away clothes he had washed as he prepared for the arrival of their babies. He was excited; they were pretty much ready, just a few small things left. However, as Isaiah informed him the babies were coming, Leo panicked and ran to the car with their hospital bag and no shoes. He, of course, realized before they drove off and went and got his shoes. At the hospital, Leo was a mess; he couldn't count how many half-cups of coffee he had had, and he didn't even like coffee. He also kept finding himself at the vending machine buying things even tho he had no appetite at all. His pacing always ended in Isaiah's arms, listening to his man assure him everything would be fine. Because Leo kept running all the what-ifs through his mind and freaked himself out for no reason.
After getting the news that they were finally here, Leo just stood there with his husband in disbelief. Could it really be? Were they dreaming? Leo could feel his worries melt away, his panic state vanishing as he held Isaiah's hand and looked him in the eyes. " yeah, i know baby, We will figure everything out together," Leo said with more certainty than ever. He wasn't doubting one bit for the first time. He chuckled with Isaiah and looked at the door as his man did, then back at him. He listened contentedly and nodded his head," and because they get to have you as their father as well. They are so lucky. You have always taken such good care of me and i know you will take even better care of them." Leo smiled so wide, tightening his grip on Isaiahs hand. He bit his lip softly, taking in the moment, their last moments as only husbands. After they walked through the door, they would officially be husbands and fathers; their lives were about to change for good, for the better.
"yeah, it has been your dream for the longest time," he smiled so wide as he knew his husband's dream was coming true. Leo of course, dreamt of it too, but kids weren't something he had ever thought about before meeting Isaiah, it was a dream that had formed for him as the two of them talked about the future, then got married. The longing for a bigger family had only grown with their relationship for Leo. He listened closely to his husband speak and he couldnt helt but smile " thank you baby. you are going to be a wonderful dad. we can do this all, the good and the hard, together." he smiled so wide at Isiaha and kissed him softly " we dont need sleep, we will be okay" he assured Isaiah as he nodded " im ready baby, lets go, lets go" he said pulling his hand a bit. Excitement had completely taken over everything in his body; he wasn't nervous, he wasn't scared, he wasn't thinking a thousand things. Leo's mind was quiet. All he wanted was to meet their babies together right now. He opened the door, almost pulling Isaiah with him.
