Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
The path the hacker walked was a familiar one; heâd had over five years of practice navigating the well kept grass between aged headstones, after all. Yet, the grief that settled in the older manâs heart always seemed nothing short of brand new each time Angelo found himself out here, passing the many graves of friends heâd gained, as well as lost throughout his life. He wasnât sure if it was the way the guilt churned in his stomach when passing Maurizioâs plot, or the small twinge of regret he felt as he passed a certain guitarist's, but Angeloâs resolve always seemed to reach a breaking point by the time his feet stopped in front of a old friendâs grave.Â
He hadnât seen it coming, though perhaps the sight Angelo had last seen him in should have been a clear giveaway. Unstable, hurt, and just.. lost. The hacker had never seen the younger man so defeated as heâd been the day he found him practically falling apart inside that old mansionâs room...And yet heâd missed the signs. The way heâd stayed inside, when heâd been nothing more than a fucking street rat, or the way he shook off the news of his apparent friendâs death as nothing more than a won bet... Heâd been struggling, and no one had been there to help him. Not Raphael, not that stupid fucking Brit, and especially not him â and they lost him because of that. Theyâd lost a good guy that day to something as stupid as an overdose because no one had been there to support him the way he needed â and probably because the fucking idiot was too stubborn to admit when he needed the goddamn help...Â
Every year the man had this same internal conversation with himself, and every year without fail, it managed to bring his expression into a bitter scowl as his hand tightened around the gift heâd been forced to smuggle here illegally this year...something he was sure Leone would get a kick out of; if he could anyway...however death worked. Releasing a bitter breath of air, Angelo squatted in front of a now worn tombstone, dragging his free hand over the bright Roman grass growing there. âYouâre still a fucking idiot.â He choked out with a small laugh, allowing his words to hang in the air as if he expected the crass âfuck offâ in response. Though as nothing but the soft whisper of a crisp summer breeze broke the returned silence, the hackerâs smile faded, reminding him of the bitter reality he actually lived in. Lightly spinning the bottle of beer - one of Leoneâs favorites, if even such a thing existed - Angeloâs gaze met the chiseled text engraved within the stone, reading over already memorized words absently, searching for something to say to no one but himself. âWent through hell to get this for you, you know. âHad to get Fletch to smuggle it into Italy for me.â He explained, cracking off the lid within the edge of the now chipping lettering of âBeloved Sonâ, like heâd done every year heâd come. â...Guess you never met Fletch, did you...? Heâs an alright bastard. Youâd probably hate him, but... Heâs a good guy. Brings me beer, anyway. Figure thatâs most important to you.â As if to further his point, a tip of the bottle was given to the earth, an extended âsipâ dumping onto the soil as Angelo shifted with a short huff.Â
âAnd you thought me telling you Kat being president was bad... Youâd be losing your damn mind with this asshole. Fucker thinks banning alcohol is the proper way to really fuck over the gangs, you know?â At least the drugs he could understand...Though, them being illegal hadnât done anything to help Leone anyway, so what good did it do... Allowing the silence to take over once again, Angelo offered Leo another drink, this one longer as he watched the liquid flow from the bottle with a soft frown. His expression thoughtful in his actions, as if maybe heâd be able to bring back the dead with enough offerings of alcohol and begging...ââAvaâs back... I brought Enzo to see you a while ago, donât know if you knew;...Hell, I figure I didnât bring alcohol so you didnât bother listening. ââAva and I agree you would have been a good godfather for him.. Even if you would have told her to fuck off for that too.âÂ
It only took to the end of that revelation for Angelo to finally finish the bottle, allowing the remaining drops to slowly fall into the drenched ground, before the bottle was righted in his grip; gone as quick as Leone himself. Rocking on his heels, either in an effort to chase away the unsettling emotions trying to flood his mind, or simply to regain feeling within his calves, Angelo released a long breath of air, shaking his head at nothing in particular. â.... âI miss you, you know... Youâre a fucking piece of shit, and I hate you for it, but.. I fucking miss you, man...â He admitted after another battle with the silence, staring at the tombstone with faux resentment as if that might help the regret heâs felt since day one. âItâs not fair... I mean Christ, Roma herself knows itâs not fair... Minute your gone and she starts falling to pieces...âÂ
But life wasnât fair, and perhaps Rome knew that better than anything else; even if she acknowledged when things werenât fair, she still knew that was how it was meant to be. No matter how bullshit it was,.. and so for the fifth year, Angeloâs inner hopes that by some stupid fucking divine miracle, the thief would find himself back where he belonged was once against forced to remain just that; blind, stupid hope. Maybe next year...Â
Releasing a final sigh, Angelo gently rubbed at his eyes with his free hand, chasing away the moisture that always seemed to reside there whenever he visited before pushing himself to a stand. Redirecting that hand to rest atop the cool marble, Angelo momentarily closed his eyes, remaining silent as the same prayer heâd recited when Maurizio died ran through his mind, hoping to offer some outrageous comfort to a man who seemed to despise the very idea of religion. â...Iâm sorry.â Was once again the parting words Angelo decided to mutter as he opened his eyes and stepped away from the grave. â...Someone should have been there...â He spoke, eyeing the grave for another moment before the man could only nod, forcing himself to walk away, less he depress himself more than needed.Â
After all,...heâd see him again soon enough anyway, right?

Episode Two: One Shot, Two Shot, Red Door, Blue Door
There was the largest sigh of relief that left Liamâs lips when Leone finally let up, revealing that there was indeed a joke behind that insinuation. So he wasnât a complete idiot then. Thank god. Pulling his hand back from his hair to rub at his temple, he couldnât help but allow a short breath of a laugh from himself as well, finding the otherâs own humor far too contagious despite the fact it originated from his own misfortune. Not at all offended by the loss of his drink, the guitaristâs shoulders went up in a rough shrug, an explanation on the tip of his tongue as he tried his best to level his companion with an unamused look. Though the attempt turned out to be completely useless as he couldnât keep the smile from his expression. The explanation still managed to fall short though, as Leone chose to let himself be heard once again; voicing a fair bit of information that had his expression melting into one they had just evolved from. âWait, âold on, thatâs not..- Youâre sayinâ.. Cara ân I didnât do nothinâ but.. we did?â Once again speaking as if he could put a hold on the world in general, Liamâs hands dropped from his forehead, raising a single one to point between the pair of them with a raised brow to further explain his words. Because suddenly that joke about him and Cara wasnât the joke it was supposed to be anymore, but more so one that detailed something different entirely. Something so different. Because now it wasnât âhaha, you didnât have sex with her, silly.â but âhaha, you didnât have sex with her, sillyâ, and now it seemed like his headache couldnât get any worse. âWere we..- I mean, did weâŠâ Once again resorting to confused sputtering, rather than actual sentences, Liamâs brows furrowed deeply in concern, eyeing Leone carefully. A million different thoughts ran through his mind, causing his expression only to deepen as he fought not to apologize right in that second. ââŠYouâre not jokinâ?â
Not bothering to hide his chuckles this time, Leo impatiently prompted him to make his slow connections with a few unhelpful rotations of his hand. Oh this was priceless, he thought, watching as Liam fell for the same prank a second time around. âDid we...?â he echoed, waiting to see if sweet, innocent Liam could muster the courage to utter the word sex out loud. âJoking that you woke up on me? Or joking that we slept together?â he questioned, still snickering slightly as he watched Liamâs confusion and regret continue to deepen. âBecause thatâs all the honest truth.â Technically.Â
Handing back the water bottle to the man who actually needed it, Leo let the uncertainty linger a little longer as he leaned back to rest against his palms. Eventually relenting in his torture, he turned back to the guitarist as if suddenly realizing the meaning of their conversation. âOooh, youâre wondering if we slept together. As in sex?â he asked, laughing off the suggestion entirely. âNaw, of course not. You were way too drunk to get it up, donât worry.â
Episode Two: One Shot, Two Shot, Red Door, Blue Door
Cringing into his arms at the once again incorrect name, Liam released a huff of a breath that quickly turned into an indignant grunt as he felt the gentle shove to his side. Turning his head in an effort to see just what Leone was offering, Liam eyed the bottle critically for a moment before lazily untangling his arm to accept the actually useful substance. Unless of course it was really just vodka - because after all, that wasnât whiskey, now was it? Shifting so that the man was sitting up with a slightly less pathetic posture, Liam slowly uncapped the bottle, taking a few small sips in an attempt to rid his mouth of the foul taste of what heâd just call regret for now. âThanks, mate.âÂ
His brows had merely furrowed as Leone tried to explain some downside to his late awakening, a thing Liam only found himself grateful for with another much larger sip of water. That is however, until that water was suddenly caught in his throat as some unexpected words reached his ears. âExcuse me.. - What?â He coughed, bringing a hand back to his mouth as his eyes immediately settled upon Leoâs with such underlying concern. Because what? âYouâre absolutely full of shit!â He argued, though the evident lack of accusation in his tone suggested Liam wasnât confident about that fact. Not in the slightest. âShe d-.. We didnât-â Chopped sentences fell from his lips as his brows furrowed even further in contemplation, a serious attempt to question if such a thing had actually occurred - god he hoped not. Watching Leone closely, Liam bit the inside of his cheek, moving his hand in one smooth gesture to sprinkle a generous coating of water upon the younger man with the still uncapped bottle in his possession. âFuckinâ prat, best be âavinâ a laugh, or I swear downâŠâ He muttered, running his free hand through his hair once again, as yet another wave of regret ran through him. Idiot. Idiot, idiot, idiot.Â
Messina kept an innocent expression--something that never looked quite right on his features--through each of Liamâs questions, quietly enjoying the look of horror on his face. âHey Pace, thatâs between you, Cara, and the left side of the bridge,â he replied with a shrug. However, when Liam decided to toss his generous gift back on him, Leo finally cracked up laughing, letting up the ruse fairly quickly. âOf course Iâm laughing. Should have seen your fucking face,â he countered, still chuckling at he wiped the water out of his eyes. âCanât believe you thought you had sex with Cara,â he continued, stealing the bottle back to take a sip himself. And to ensure the whole thing wasnât dumped on his head in second. âI mean seriously, how do you mix up Cara with me. For Christâs sake you woke up on me, English.â
Episode Two: One Shot, Two Shot, Red Door, Blue Door
Wincing at the greeting that would have been so much more appreciated had it not been one he chose to use today, Liam wiped the back of his hand across his mouth, sparing Leone from the withering look he currently possessed by keeping his sights locked with the ground. Though just barely - because really, of all days to wake up so cheerfully? Then again, maybe there was a correlation. âMânameâs not William.â He countered quietly, all but ignoring the manâs question for the moment in favor of turning back around to seat himself in front of the slab of concrete. With his knees drawn to his chest, the guitarist simply crossed his arms over his legs and buried his head into his lap with a muttered statement that was probably just as unintelligible as the ones from the night before. Though in Liamâs defense, it only took a few minutes for him to clarify, uttering a muffled âNo thank you.â through his arms in a very late response to his friendâs offer. After all, he had just barely started to get a grasp on the kinds of helpful âtoolsâ Leone always had to offer, and knew better than to ask for something.Â
Leo had to feel some sense of pity for the man since he could empathize with him for once. Not to mention, Liam had a knack for looking truly pitiful when he was upset in a way which demanded some compassion. So grabbing the bottle which actually had water in it, the troublemaker made his way over to the sad lump that was his friend and sat next to him. âAw come on, Will, you earned it,â he replied, quieter this time as he gave him a light nudge in the side. âAnd I really think you could use something to take the edge off,â he continued, offering the bottle out with a necessary declaimer. âItâs not whiskey, I promise.â
âItâs a shame you slept in so late though,â he mentioned casually, observing their little abode as if to look for evidence of their night. A night which Liam clearly didnât remember very well. âYou missed Cara,â he continued, âShe wanted to wait up for you. No clue why. Say good morning or compliment you on the sex, who knows, but she said sheâll be around La Porta Rosa again tonight. If youâre still interested.â And then Leo just waited, trying his best not to smile at his own joke.
Episode Two: One Shot, Two Shot, Red Door, Blue Door
It wasnât as if hangovers were completely foreign to Liam, after all, with how little alcohol it actually takes to get the man drunk, a mild hangover here and there is to be expected. One of such intensity however, now that was something the Brit was completely unfamiliar with, and it only took about a second of being even slightly awake to realize why that had been such a blessing before. For one - he was sore. Like, just ran an entire marathon, fell down a mountain; landed in a cactus, and got bashed in the head kind of sore. Secondly, it was way too hot for a blanket. Swinging his arm out with an audible groan of complaint, Liam swatted the much too heavy blanket from his body, before using the same arm to further bury his head into the thing he happened to be laying on that morning.Â
⊠âor person rather. Reluctantly cracking his eyes open, the guitarist pulled his head from his hands to take a glance at the human pillow below him. Furrowing his brow with a wince, the Brit tried and failed multiple times to come up with an explanation as to why he was sleeping on top of his friend, only getting one spot of information in return; headache. Terrible, terrible, headache. Well that wasnât helpful. Without a word to his companion, Liam gently shoved himself off of Messina, choosing to walk a fair distance over to the small corner under the bridge where no one ever really went; if only because that ever so glorious nauseating feeling was coming back with every second he was awake, and that corner looked like a lovely place for a good morning puke if thatâs what it came down to. Sitting himself against a loose block of concrete, the Brit rubbed his hand along his temple, attempting to wave off his headache, but the man was quick to retract his movements with a small hiss, finally noticing the rough scrapes coating his palms. Christ. See, this was why he didnât do shots, Liam quickly determined, still trying to piece together whatever destruction occurred the night before. There was the Italianâs insistence on taking him out for his birthday, Renzo, Messâ Wait, Leone, his first nameâs Leone, being introduced to Cara - Oh god, Cara. That had beenâ
Lurching to the side, Liam supported himself with a hand against the wall as he finally lost his ongoing battle with nausea, emptying what little contents of his stomach he had onto the dirt covered ground. An attempt to swallow back the foul tasting bile simply did more harm than good as another round forced itself from the Britâs body, leaving the squatting man to groan at his actions as he swiped his free hand through his hair dejectedly.Â
Trust me, itâll be fun. Like he said; those were always some famous last wordsâŠÂ
For once, Leone didnât wake up with a hangover, no doubt the result of his new child-rearing responsibilities. Instead, he awoke to a very clear, and all too amusing image of Liamâs disgruntles features, watching as the reality of his morning regrets dawned on him. Letting him maintain the slim dignity of a private morning puke, Leo lazily pulled himself up to a sitting position, cracking his back as he tried not to laugh at his poor friendâs misery. After a short moment of silence, Mess finally called over an all too cheerful greeting. âBuongiorno William!â Balling up the blanket which Liam had been so intent to rid himself of, he checked his pockets to see what he had on him. âNeed something to take the edge off?â
Episode Two: One Shot, Two Shot, Red Door, Blue Door
ââm goinâ, âm goinâ,â The sleepy assurances were muttered lowly as time and time again the guitarist failed to go just about anywhere, more just caught in a slight limbo of steps in both directions. Truly, Liam was trying his damnedest to help his companion help him, but his body was having none of it, especially when mind over matter just ended up being nothing more than the blind leading the blind. So when even the most enticing of offers brought forth only more incoherent assurances and pathetic stumbles, it appeared that Leone simply took matters into his own hands. Quite literally, as well. Â
If the recently turned thirty year old man had any qualms about being so easily hefted into the arms of his eighteen year old companion, he certainly didnât show it. Instead rather, another drawn out whine was the only complaint to the quick movements before Liam settled just as comfortably in the manâs arms as he had against his side. The Britâs head was quick to fall against Leoneâs shoulder as his hands stayed deadlocked in the grip the younger man had thrown them in around his neck. With fingers still tightly woven between loose fabric, it seemed the grip the man had wasnât one that would soon be relinquished, despite the fact the guitarist held way too much faith in the fact Leone wouldnât be dropping him anytime soon.Â
Thankfully finding the natural rhythm of Leoneâs walking more soothing than nauseating, it didnât take long for Liam to slip back into his mostly unconscious state from before, unaware of anything anyone around him might be saying or doing; with the only thing resonating in his mind being the gentle sway that accompanied the manâs footsteps. That is, however, until another particularly different shift had him tightening his grip around the manâs neck once more as he felt his body re-positioning in a way he wasnât sure he wanted to go. A grip that mightâve given way in another few minutes when Liam finally slipped fully into sleep. Â
Grateful that Liam was apparently more tired than nauseous, Leo still couldnât resist poking fun at the manâs rather pitiful state in his arms. âThat was two shots, you know that right?â he asked, realizing that any question would be a rhetorical one at this point. âAnd donât even give me shit about the beer, I drank most of that for you,â he continued, careful of his footing as the ground sloped down towards the riverbank. He gave Matteo a short nod of acknowledgement as his thanks before moving to drop Liam off in his usual spot, now marked by a layer of old clothes and a thin blanket. This, however, was far less simple than he expected.
âLiam...Liam, Iâm putting you down,â he explained, finding the guitaristâs grip had tightened rather than loosened when he tried to put the 30-year-old-going-on-3 to bed. âLiam.â The name was a sigh of defeat as the drunk mess redirected all his efforts into staying glued to Leoâs shoulder with an impressive last gasp of energy. Matteo offered a short snort of laughter which did nothing to help the situation, and once again Leone found himself caving to the ridiculous situation. Fuck it. âYou know what Liam, we should make a bet,â he suggested as he tried to maneuver himself into a sitting position with Liam still hanging off of him. âSee, I bet youâre already asleep,â he began, grabbing an old pair of jeans with his one free hand to toss behind his head. âAnd if Iâm right, then you canât complain about my bony ass shoulders in the morning,â he determined, noting how Liam had curled up against him in a position which surely couldnât be comfortable. âDeal?â If the musician acknowledged the gamble in any way, it was not apparent as Leo tugged the blanket loosely over them. âTwo fucking shots.â And that was as appropriate a goodnight as any.
