How did you meet Babet?
through very unfortunate circumstances. unfortunate as in i now know babet, not as in the situation was bad in and of itself.Â
It wasnât her brand, but she wasnât in the position to be picky. She took it between her damp fingers gratefully; thankfully her lighter worked and she wouldnât be any further humiliated. âYou wouldnât be headed anywhere warm, by any chance?â She wondered. When she exhaled, the smoke wasnât the only thing causing a cloud in front of her.Â
The corner of Feuillyâs lips quirked upward, nodding. âYeah, I am.â They took a drag of their own cigarette, blowing out the smoke slowly and watching it mix into the misty fog. âI have an apartment. I donât suppose you want to ditch your friend and hide out there âtill the rain stops, do you?âÂ
"Honestly, in this weather, I doubt he's even coming in the first place." Claquesous took a long drag from her cigarette, trying to finish it as quickly as possible. "You live downtown?"

Feuilly frowned as the girl pulled out a damp cigarette, and couldnât help but feel⊠well, they didnât know quite how to feel. In a way, they could see themselves in the stranger beside them.
They had been there before.
They reached inside their jacket pocket, pulling out their own pack of smokes and opening it, taking one out for themselves holding the box out to her. âYou look like you need one.â They offered quietly.

âI was coming home from work, this way is faster. Didnât get any less wet, though.â They gestured to themselves, looking like they had just dove into a swimming pool. They sighed, picking at the paint splatters on their jacket. âAt least this might finally wash out, this paint has been stuck to it for ages.â
Another rumble of thunder filled the air, Feuillyâs mouth quirking upwards into a grin. âI donât mind it, really, Â like the rain.â

Claquesous reached into her pocket to pull out her pack, but sighed upon drawing out a squishy, damp cigarette. âYou like it when youâre in it, even? I hate getting soaked to the bone, it fucking sucks. Wet cigarettes suck. You suck.â She sighed, leaning her head back against the bricks.Â

âIâm not hanging out,â she insisted, looking with a vague sense of discomfort at the extended hand. She didnât take it. âIâm waiting to meet a friend. A very powerful friend, Iâll have you know, one who wonât like that Iâm talking to little street rats like you.â Little street rats like herself. âIf youâre gonna chat, though, might as well come under the table. Itâs relatively dry.âÂ
Feuilly nodded, pushing the âstreet ratâ comment out of their head and crawling under the table to sit beside the girl. They reached up and pulled the hair tie from their bun, red hair falling to their shoulders. They started to wring the rain out of their hair, looking up at the stranger. âSounds like a real⊠fun friend.â They chuckled quietly, starting to braid their hair back and away from their face. âIs that the same guy who can supposedly get me a cheap phone?âÂ
"Nah," replied the thief, but then thought about it. "Actually, he might be able to get you one, but he'd charge a crazy markup." Claquesous looked out into the pouring rain, looking for the young man who wouldn't come. "What brought you round?"
lesamemesfeuilly
Feuilly didnât flinch as the person snapped at them, slipping the phone into their pocket. âWell, I mean, Iâm not in a rush or anything, and youâre just hanging out in the rain by yourself.â They smiled a bit, shrugging. âIâm SĂ©bastien, but most people just call me Feuilly.â They extended their hand.

Fuck you.
No you cannot Source: personal experience
âEasy to replace at least,â came an amused voice from underneath the abandoned table, shouting to be heard above the pounding rain. Claquesous was quite amused by the spectacle before her, going so far as to look up at the otherâs panicked face. âI know a guy who can get you one for cheap if legitimacy isnât a great concern of yours.â
Feuilly jumped at the voice, tilting their head a bit to peek at the figure under the table. âOh, I- thanks, but Iâll probably be okay, I literally spent five bucks on the thing like, three years ago.â They turned the phone over in their hands and sighed, running a hand through their damp mop of hair. âA phoneâs the least of my problems, not gonna cry about it.âÂ
Their eyes trailed back to the stranger sitting under the table, kneeling down a bit. âYou okay?âÂ
Suddenly she was on the defensive once more. What do they mean, am I OK? "I'm breathing, aren't I?" She barked, her neutral tone a mask of sorts. "Shouldn't you be getting somewhere with your wet phone?" Quick to divert the attention from herself, as usual.
Rain. Everything about it is wonderful â the hard pattering on the cobblestones, the scent hanging thick in the wet air, the people rushing off the streets (my streets) and into their cozy hideaways â everything except the soaking wet feeling making its way into her boots⊠and her threadbare coat. And her jeans. Claquesous even felt the dampness beneath her ski mask.
Rent ran out last week. No more roof over her head, no more hostels to crash in, no money to speak of, no prospectsâŠ. wait.
Someoneâs coming. She stands, grinning a bit. A prospect. Â
Damn, it was really starting to come down. Another rumble of thunder came from overhead, and Feuilly paused, standing under another overhang to check the time. 5:34, Bahorel wouldnât be home for another- CRASH
A loud roar of thunder struck above, and Feuillyâs heart leapt out of their chest, causing them to drop their phone into a puddle below.Â
âNO! Fucking god, please donât be- shit.â They scurried to grab the soaking wet phone, trying desperately to click it on. The screen was black. It was only a $5 flip phone from the dollar store, but it was still the only phone they had. Grumbling, they took out the battery and wiped it off on their pants, though it didnât seem to be doing much good since they were damp too.
