Short Blurb: Reader is heading into Home Depot to look for tiles or something for a home renovation and canât find exactly what theyâre looking for. Instead they run into a cute worker and decide - hey - canât hurt to ask. In case it's not obvious, Ellie Williams x Reader

Summer is always fun. Thereâs pools, the beach, bugs, plants, and, best of all, itâs the time you randomly decide to do some home renovations every year. No clue why. Maybe itâs the natural progression from spring cleaning; summer destruction, that is.Â
After absolutely demolishing the flooring in your bathroom in an attempt to add a little personality to your space, you find yourself roaming the aisles of Home Depot searching for tiles. Flooring tiles at first, but then your shower could use a facelift while youâre here. And, on top of that, why not look at some paint swatches too? Â
You meander through the store, bopping your head along to the tunes from your phone, and suddenly become overwhelmed by your decisions. Spoilt for choice, youâre staring up at an entire wall of marble, granite, subway-style, round stone, etc. Thereâs too much. Your head is spinning, and now youâre very aware of the mess you just landed yourself in at eight in the evening on a Wednesday.Â
âRight,â You mumble, plucking your earbuds from your ears. The music, at first aesthetic and soothing, makes your brain feel like itâs melting into your skull. âMake a choice and stick with it.âÂ
You glare up at the display wall, willing for one of the options to jump out at you. Nothing happens. All that inspiration you saved on pinterest might as well have been coins in a wishing well because, while there are several chances of success, you arenât getting a single one of them. Maybe itâll be easier to make a decision if you look at some paint swatches first. You walk to the paint section, stare at yet another wall with thousands of variants and hang your head with a sigh.Â
The sound of jingling keys makes you lift your gaze. Walking by, without an apparent care in the world, is a girl with shortish hair tied back in a half pony, a foliage-themed arm tattoo, and - most importantly - an orange apron tied around her waist. Not to mention cute freckles and an easy-going smile. She seems approachable, perfect for giving you some suggestions at the very least.Â
âExcuse me!â You call out before she can get too far. She comes to a halt and looks over in your direction, eyes scanning the aisle until they land on you.Â
âNeed something?â She asks. Her voice is⊠nice? You arenât sure how to describe it. Just that you like it.Â
âYea Iâm remodeling my bathroom and was wondering if you could just sort ofâ -- you gesture forward with your arms on either side of you -- âpoint me in a direction and let me loose.âÂ
She raises her eyebrows at you, converse-clad feet walking closer.Â
âWhat kind of direction?â She questions, very obviously trying to hold back an amused smile.Â
âItâs just, I started this whole thing without much of a plan and I just need someone to tell me what to do so I can decide if I even like what you tell me to do and then choose to listen to you or someone or whoever and deviate or not. Need the tiniest bit of vague guidance, I guess.â You ramble, words growing softer the more you talk, realizing how silly you must sound. This girl, âEllieâ as is written in messy handwriting on the apron, nodded along like sheâs taking every syllable to memory.Â
âI like green.â She says plainly after giving you a few beats of silence.Â
âGreen?âÂ
âYea like forest green. Maybe darker.âÂ
âFor a bathroom?â You wrinkle your nose and look towards the dark green paint swatches.Â
Ellie laughs and puts her hands on her hips, âSo weâve ruled out green.âÂ
You shrug, biting back a grin, and turn back to the rows of rainbow before the two of you, âI mean green is nice, but for a living room or something.âÂ
âMy bathroom is green.âÂ
âLike I said, I love green. Especially for a bathroom! Itâs always been my dream to have a fully green bathroom.âÂ
Ellie laughs, like actually full-belly laughs at that, and you try to quell the glowing pride that starts to grow in your chest. You bite your bottom lip with a smile and tilt your head as you regard her. Like you already observed, she is pretty cute. And she thinks youâre funny at this point. MaybeâŠÂ
âWhat color are your tiles? We can work from there to figure out a color scheme.â She sobers up and leans in a little closer to you as she talks, completely derailing your train of thought. The entire time, too, she holds eye contact. Itâs almost intimidating how good she is at it.Â
âSee, thatâs where this all started. I donât have any tile in my bathroom. I tore it all out. I am starting one hundred percent fresh,â You admit, baring your teeth in a faux awkward grimace.Â
Ellie tuts and purses her lips as if deep in thought.Â
âHow about,â She pulls a notepad from her back pocket and scribbles something down on it with a pencil she drew from behind her ear. A piece of hair falls into her face as she writes, and you imagine how nice it would be to brush it back for her. You donât do it, of course, but the thought alone causes butterflies to flutter in your stomach. âYou shoot me a text and we can figure out something together over coffee this Friday?âÂ
She hands you the paper she scribbled on and a series of numbers are clumsily scrawled in big, bold font. You take the piece with barely-noticable trembling fingers.Â
âYou sure you want to work on this off the clock?â You ask, giving her one chance to back out.Â
âWell, we can talk about some other things too,â She shrugs, âLike your name for instance.âÂ
âOh yea!â You introduce yourself as she does the same. You hold out your hand to shake hers and the moment your skin touches itâs like electricity jolts between you. She only lets go when an older man shouts from the lumber section.Â
âWilliams! âNeed a hand!âÂ
She rolls her eyes but calls back, âComing Joel.â Then she turns back to you, âSo Friday?âÂ
âFriday.â You confirm with a grin. With one last smirk, she turns to run towards her coworker. You, having completed absolutely nothing yet feeling incredibly satisfied with your trip to the store, go back to your car to head home.Â
Before youâre even out of the parking lot, though, you make sure to send a text.Â
I could be convinced to settle for green if youâre really persuasive. ;)

There werenât a lot of things that scared Arthur Morgan. But the way you were looking at him right now was scarier than a thousand Pinkertons with their pistols at the ready. You looked ready to kill him, and he knew that you were - at the very least - considering it. On top of that, he wasnât sure heâd be able to stop you if you tried.
âArthur Morgan.â Your voice was crisp and cold. The last time he heard you say his name like that was when you found him lying drunk in the bushes in front of your house - he was originally in there hiding from the law, but ended up falling asleep and you found him the next morning.
âMiss Y/n,â He dipped his head down in a greeting. It was the polite thing to do, seeing as he had just been reunited with his sweetheart after disappearing for six weeks with no warning. It was polite, and it allowed him to avoid your gaze. âFancy meeting you here.â
Even worse that he disappeared on you, he didnât even seek you out when he came back to town. You just happened to run into him while he was coming out of the saloon and you were leaving the general store across the street.
âOh, are you surprised to see me?â You laughed sarcastically, âI bet Iâm a whole lot more shocked to see you here. In fact, I canât believe youâre alive. I thoughtâchya died.â
âSee about that Miss Y/n-â
âAnd weâre back to formalities now, too?â
âI didnât mean for any of this to happen,â He rushed out, but felt himself forgetting the explanation he was going to give you. He worked on it for those six weeks he was gone. You looked angry, sure, but he also noticed the way you were choking on your words slightly. As if you wanted to cry. He had a bad habit of noticing even the smallest details about you.
âSix weeks is plenty of time to write a single letter, Mr. Morgan.â You crossed your arms over your chest to try and feel bigger than you felt.
âI have a reason you know.â
âIt better be a damn good one too.â
âI was doinâ something for Dutch.â Arthur said. He cringed, though, when he saw the tears that brimmed along the edges of your eyes evaporate as your gaze shifted to a heated glare.
ââDoinâ somethinâ for Dutchâ,â You repeated. âWhat the hell is that supposed to mean, Arthur? Youâre always doinâ shit for Dutch and you always come back in a few days at most!â Your words were growing louder to the point where you were just barely below the level considered shouting. âAnd never without at least saying goodbye!â
Arthur looked back at you and took a moment to observe how you had changed in those weeks he had been gone. He couldnât think of anything but you; then and now. You were in the air he breathed and the dreams he dreamt. You cut your hair first off, he noticed it was significantly shorter than when he left. You also lost a little weight in your face and there were dark bags under your eyes. You were obviously tired.
âI didnât mean for you to see me here,â He admitted after a minute.
âIs that supposed to make me feel better?â You asked with a spitting edge, âWere you even gonna come see me at all? Did you even think about me?â
âI thought of you whenever I had the chance to think.â He gave you a small, sad smile. It melted your heart, but it wasnât enough to soothe the anger and hurt you felt. âEvery spare moment I had was dedicated to you.â
âWhat happened, Arthur?â Your tough act was dropping rapidly. You were practically pleading for an answer; A definite answer. âPlease just tell me why.â
He just looked at you with pity, something that hurt more than youâd care to admit. He was the one in the wrong here, he was the one who abandoned you right afterâŠ
You, up until this very moment, spent every second wondering what had happened to Arthur Morgan. You spent your nights replaying your last moments together to see if you had done something wrong. You shouldered the blame, you thought maybe you had scared him off. It took everyone who knew you telling you that there was nothing that you did that could have caused that man to run off on you like that (You had even run into Hosea in town and asked about it for Godâs sake). But, itâs not like you were someone who liked to listen to reason anyways. Emotions tend to get in the way of reality.
*** The night before Arthur disappeared ***
Arthur had planned this evening down to the second. He wanted everything to be perfect for your⊠anniversary-of-sorts. It had been exactly one year since Arthur met you:
The day you met, you were nannying a couple of local kids for the day while their parents went out to the next town over. You didnât really want to do it at all, but the couple offered fifteen dollars and a weekâs worth of free meals at the local pub (which they owned) for the few hours you would have to watch the brats. You thought it was a steal when you accepted, but, all too late, you realized it was just because their kids were demons and you were woefully unprepared to deal with them. The little devils somehow managed to tie you to a tree a little ways outside of the town, take your knife from you, and run back home.
You had tried to grab the attention of a few passing farmers, but the combined sounds of their horses plus their carts drowned out your voice. The tree was a little far from the road, too, so they couldnât hardly see you if they werenât even looking in your direction. You were about to start using your teeth to gnaw through the rope when you saw a lone rider coming up the trail.
Long story short, he saved you from sleeping out against a tree like a fresh wrap of bear bait, and the two of you became nearly inseparable shortly thereafter. He would scare away any rough-seeming fellas that tried to mess with you and you would keep the local sheriff from locking him away in some dark cell for whatever petty crime was reported in town. Sometimes he was guilty, sometimes not, it didn't matter though, the law wanted to blame him and you could always talk them down. You were a team.
Arthur had planned this anniversary-thing as a way to formally ask if he may court you. Of course, the two of you were closer than average friends, and had drunkenly slept together too many times after long nights of drinking at the pub with his group for your relationship to be considered âproperâ. But, neither of you had indicated that you wanted to take your relationship a little further than that. As in, potentially being serious enough to get wed further.
That was the night Arthur decided that he was ready to do it. He was ready to ask.
âAre you going to tell me what this secret adventure is now?â You giggled as Arthur stood with you on your front porch. He had refused to give you even the smallest detail on what was planned. All he requested is that the two of you get a little more dolled up than usual.
âJust trust me for once in your life,â He smiled and hid his nerves behind a teasing tone. You rolled your eyes at him, but took the arm he offered you.
He led you to his horse and helped lift you into the saddle. You didnât need the help, he knew you didnât need the help, but he thought it was the gentlemanly thing to do on a night as important as this. Plus, you didnât question his offer like you normally would, you simply smiled and allowed him to grab your waist lighty and push you up.
He hopped on behind you and had to reach his arms around you to grab the reins. Arthur was worried you would be able to feel the pounding of his heart against your back as the two of you were pressed into each other. It was a way that you had ridden together numerous times, but tonight was so different. It felt more intimate than before.
Arthur led his horse through town. By the time he passed every shop and restaurant you were growing more curious to what he had up his sleeve.
âThere ainât anything out this way Mr. Morgan,â You turned your head so he could hear you easier, âYouâre not takinâ me out here to kill me quietly or somethinâ right?â
He chuckled softly at your joke and you could feel the rumble of his laughter against your back, âNo maâam, just got something set up here a ways.â
You looked ahead and saw something lighting up in the distance. You were confused at first, seeing as there wasnât another town around for miles and you could still see your town behind you. It took a few more seconds before you were close enough to see that it was a tree with candles set up around the trunk with mason jars with tea lights inside hanging down from the branches.
Arthur rode up to the tree and carefully slid out of the saddle. He held his hands out for you to grab, but you were mesmerized by the view in front of you.
The candlelight made the tree appear to be glowing. There was a light blue blanket spread at the base of the trunk that had a couple of empty plates, a bottle of whiskey that looked suspiciously like the ones the saloon made for themselves, and a very poorly weaved basket that was nearly falling apart.
âArthur,â You said in awe, âWhat is all this?â
âGet down here and Iâll show you,â He winked at you as he said it.
âWhy youâre being awfully forward, sir.â You grinned and finally took his hand to slip off the saddle as well. As Arthur led you to the blanket residing over the dust, you recognized the spot you were in. âArthur Morgan.â You gasped slightly.
The way his full name rolled off your tongue always made him feel special, âMiss Y/n?â He hummed.
âIs this what I think it is?â You laughed in disbelief.
Arthur momentarily panicked thinking you had already figured out what he intended to ask you that night. His heart leapt into his throat as he replied, âWhat do you think it is?â Your laughter made him nervous. Maybe you figured it out and were making fun of him for it.
âThis is where we met, isnât it? Where those goblins left me tied up because they didnât want to listen to me anymore!â You giggled and placed a hand on the bark of the tree, reminiscing on how livid you were. Yet, you had those kids to thank in some backwards way. They were the reason you met Arthur.
âOh that,â He breathed a sigh of relief, âI was hopinâ youâd remember.â
âOf course I remember. How could I forget the day I met myâŠâ You turned towards him, your face merely inches from his, and could hardly think. The lights were reflecting in his eyes and made them seem brighter and boy-like. He looked younger, carefree. âMy best friend.â
You werenât sure what you and Arthur were, but best friend was the closest you could get without telling him you were ready to jump his bones any time of the week. Void of the beers it took to get you confident enough to do it.
âWell,â He cleared his throat and sat down on the blanket opposite from where you were standing, âSeeing as itâs been about a year since I found you stranded out here like a wounded pup-â You scoffed. âI figured we might as well make a date of it. Like a holiday.â
âLike an anniversary,â You ask slyly as you sit across from him. âMy, my I didnât think you were the anniversary-type, Arthur.â
âImportant days deserve recognition,â He mumbled, turning to hide a growing blush on his cheeks.
âWell, letâs see what kind of treats are included in an âimportant dayâ celebration.â You smile and reach into the basket.
âJohn put the food together while I was setting this up,â Arthur admitted with a sheepish grin, âSo no clue what he put in there.â
You pulled out a few apples from the basket, two pieces of sponge cake wrapped in cloth, an opened tin of sardines, and some tried meat. Looking at the haul of food in front of you Arthur grunted in annoyance. âFucking John.â
âNo, no itâs wonderful!â You laugh, âYou know how well sardines and cake pair together. And appes and jerky too! Itâs a meal fit for a king.â
âIâm sorry, Y/n.â Arthur blushes as he picks up the sardines and puts them back in the basket with a glare - He actually hates them and knew John added them just to mess with him. âI should have asked Ms. Grimshaw to pack that.â
âDonât you fret, Mr. Morgan.â You scooted yourself closer to him so you could press a comforting hand to his bicep - which was very strong and defined, you noticed, âIf I expected to eat a five course meal then Iâd be pursuing the Innkeeperâs son, but that man is unbelievably dull and extremely boring.â
âRight,â Though you meant to be comforting, your words made Arthur flinch just a bit. You were the kind of person who could pick to be with anyone, so why did he think youâd be willing to accept what little he had to offer. He couldnât even plan you a decent dinner. âWhy donât we just eat this⊠snack⊠and Iâll make this up to you another time.â
âMake it up to me?â You laughed incredulously, shocked. âArthur, you must be joking. This is beautiful: The set up, the drinks, even the food - Itâs perfect.â You leaned closer into him, gaze fixated on his lips.
His breath became unsteady and ragged as he also began to lean into you, his eyes scanning your face as you grew closer/ Eventually, he watched as you lifted your chin and your eyes fluttered closed, all he had to do was move a few centimeters and his lips would meet yours.
Arthur was afraid, though. He was worried heâd screw it up in some way. That he would ruin you by just touching you. This wasnât some drunken stupor the two of you had managed to get yourselves into; this was something far more vulnerable, far more raw.
As he contemplated whether or not he should even continue with his plan of confessing to you, he heard you plead under your breath, âPlease, Arthur.â
Thatâs when he lost all self control and smashed his lips to yours in a moment of passion. How could he tell you no? He snaked his hands around your waist to try and pull you in closer. You wove your hands through his hair as you were practically dragged into his lap. The kiss was messy, but perfect.
When the two of you broke the kiss, gasping for air, it didnât take long for his lips to attach themselves to your neck as he worked deep kisses down your jawline to your collarbone. You gasped as teeth nipped at a sensitive spot on your neck and Arthur let out a low growl at the noise.
He continued peppering kisses on every bit of exposed flesh as you pulled the jacket and suspender straps from his shoulder and brought your hands under his shirt. Once he felt you starting to lift the shirt up as well, he pulled away from you and grasped your hands in his own. His pupils were blown, his lips were red and swollen, and his hair was an absolute mess. You knew you didnât look much better, and it made your heart flutter.
It took all your self control not to jump his bones right there as you watched him lick his lips and give you a smirk.
âBefore I get too carried away here,â He pushed a few pieces of stray hair behind your ear and stroked your cheek, âI have a question to ask you.â

Arthur Morgan:
Is not scared at all - literally impossible to scare.
Thinks horror movies are predictable and kind of boring.
However, God forbid a dog dies in the movie because he will get up and turn it off and say that the writers went too far.
Grumbles and groans on movie nights where you choose a horror movie, but will always wrap an arm around you and insist of sharing a blanket because he just likes spending time with you and being able to hold you close.
Will tease you for your bad taste in movies but secretly loves watching them with you and finds himself getting sucked into them every now and then.
John Marston:
Is on the edge of his seat the whole time.
Claims he's watching them because he thinks they're funny, but actually really enjoys trying to figure out who the killer is and who's going to die when and where.
Jumps at every jump scare but acts like he didn't.
He needs to watch a Disney movie afterwards so he doesn't have nightmares. Will say it's for your sake and not his, though.
Man acts all big and bad, but once the music starts to get intense and there's a long hallway on the screen he is looking everywhere but at the TV so he isn't jumpscared again.
Dutch Van Der Linde:
Probably taking notes during psychological horror movies on how to be manipulative.
Says the killer is misunderstood or that their tragic backstory makes the killing justified.
He will eat all the popcorn and then get upset when it's all gone. Cue the puppy eyes while he's begging you to go make more.
Spends a good forty-five minutes talking about how you and him would survive the movie because y'all are so much smarter than the main characters and would make it out of there.
Genuinely believes he's invincible and could survive any scenario.
Javier Escuella:
HATES horror movies because they genuinely scare him.
Well, he can handle slashers but he hates paranormal movies since he believes in ghosts 100% no questions asked.
Loves making a snack buffet for the movie - popcorn, candy, cookies, sodas, fries, and the works.
Encourages you to cuddle into him and hold him whenever you get too scared since he's so big and brave.
Will end up being the one hiding his face in your shoulder and holding you like a teddy bear because he got freaked out.
Charles Smith:
Loves to analyze horror movies in -like- an artistic way.
His favorite types are historical horrors because so much thought goes into them.
He will watch silly horror with you, though, like Scream and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, but will spend the whole movie making fun of you. Lightheartedly, of course, he's saying that those aren't real scary movies and that you're kind of a wuss.
The entire movie his arm is wrapped around you and pressing you deep into his side so that you can cuddle and be warm. It's a little too comfortable though and you end up falling asleep there more often than not.
Loves it when you do that, it makes him feel all soft and warm on the inside.
Sean MacGuire:
Makes jokes the entire time.
Literally has something to say every 2 minutes that has the both of you laughing instead of being scared.
Honestly, it's the only way he can get through the whole movie.
If you start getting sucked into the movie and he's too nervous to fully focus on the screen, he will start throwing popcorn at you to get your attention.
Halfway through the movie he will make you pause it so that he can have a mental break from all the scary stuff and gore. Totally turns into a make-out session and the movie is long forgotten.
Sadie Adler:
Absolutely nothing fazes her, she LOVES scary movies.
She knows all the behind-the-scenes info about every movie you watch too because she deep dives into interviews and essays after watching them the first time.
Her eyes are glued to the screen but will have you lay your head in her lap so she can run her fingers through your hair to soothe you when you get scared.
Makes fun of you when you react at a jump scare. When you look up at her with a frown, she'll press kisses all over your face until you can't help but smile.
She loves that she can make you feel comforted and safe when you're scared, secretly loves it even more when you try to go to bed after the movie and you're clinging to her like a koala because you're still a little spooked by the film.

Arthur Morgan:
This man is a nervous wreck around you. Especially when you first start showing feelings for each other.
It took a million years for him to even admit that he was a little sweet on you, he is definitely not initiating anything past that point.
He can barely believe that you like him back.
The first time you grab his hand is not during anything special.
Youâre sitting in the front of a wagon with him while on the way into town. The sun is casting a golden sheen across the earth, the air is warm but not hot, and the birds are swooping and playing in the sky overhead.
Without much thought you reach down to where heâs resting his arm on his thigh and envelope his hand with your own.
He tenses up at the contact, scared to make any sudden moves in case he might scare you away.
He doesnât look at you directly, instead just glancing at you from the side of his eye. He wonders if you meant to do that or if you just did it by accident.
How your hand would end up on his on his thigh he doesnât know.
When your thumb starts stroking the skin around his knuckle, tough and calloused from a few too many brawls, he starts to melt and relax a little bit.
He flips his hand around, which makes you pull away slightly, and fits his fingers in between yours. That way heâs holding your hand back and itâs a mutual.
Thereâs a blush on his cheeks and a grin on his lips. Not a word is spoken, but Arthur relishes the comfortable silence as he tries to think of what on earth he could have done to deserve something so perfect - to deserve you.
John Marston:
John is not a touchy-feely kind of guy. Not at first anyways.
He doesnât get what you see in him. He doesnât understand why of all the men in the world - Hell, all the men in camp - you chose to waste your time with him.
Heâs angsty like that.
He knows of your feelings for him and he gave a strong inclination that he might like you back but never confessed anything really. He figured you understood him enough to know.
You did, but heâs hard to read sometimes.
The first time you hold hands, he actually initiates it. You try not to overstep any boundaries with him, so he always has to make the first moves.
While playing a few practice rounds of poker (John is trying to teach you to play/play better), jokes are being thrown back and forth and rocks are being used as chips for show.
When Johnâs focus is pulled to the cards in his hands, you take the opportunity to try and grab a few rocks from his pile to add to your own as a little joke.
John catches you and places his large hand on top of your own making you freeze. A smug grin is plastered on his face and he doesnât even look at you before placing his cards down, showing off a winning hand.
âRead âem and weep, Darlinâ,â He laughs but never removes his hand from yours.
A small blush rises to your cheeks and his gaze falls to your combined hands. He curls his fingers under your own so that heâs fully holding your hand in his.
You try to catch his eye, but heâs so focused on his large, scarred hand covering your softer skin. It eats at him a little; a guilty feeling settles into his chest.
You place your other hand on his cheek and press on it lightly to direct his head to look at you. You smile one of your so-sweet smiles that makes his stomach ache a little with admiration, and he grins.
The two of you sit there for a while and continue trying to play poker each with one hand.
Dutch Van Der Linde:
Dutch has always been really hands-on with you. (Wink Wink)
Heâs flamboyant, a show-off, cocky, and passionate. He loves to show you off and show off to everyone that you are his.
The first time he holds your hand, itâs to explicitly show that you are his and he is yours.
Most times after that, when Dutch holds your hand it means that the two of you are connected, not two people but one. Not just a couple but a unit.
Heâs dramatic that way.
The very first time he holds your hand is during an argument with Hosea. A few things about camp affairs come up, plans are being thrown around, and Hosea makes a comment suggesting that you donât need to be there for their conversation.
Dutch glares at the older man and reaches down to grasp your hand in his.
âBut Daddy I love him!â Vibes Iâm not going to lie.
He stands a little taller now that heâs touching you, it makes him feel stronger and more sure of what heâs saying. He puffs out his chest and looks down his nose at Hosea.
Hosea rolls his eyes a little and puts his hands up in surrender, telling Dutch that he can do what he wants.
When Hosea leaves, Dutch uses your entwined hands to pull you towards his side a little bit and hold you in an embrace.
He calls you his partner in crime, his other half, and a million other sultry things he can think of that causes a heat to rise in your chest.
He doesnât let you go for the rest of the night after that, choosing to show off to the rest of the gang members that you two belong together and will always be.
Javier Escuella:
Javier values romance in a relationship.
Maybe nothing incredibly grand - but sweet notes, acts of service, small gifts here and there - he likes to show you how much he loves you through actions more than anything else.
All that and more is shown later on in your relationship. At first, though, Javier is more protective than romantic when it comes to you. It keeps him from showing his emotions at times, and makes him oblivious to your feelings other times.
He just doesnât know whatâs too much because he feels a lot of things, but he wonders if showing all that too soon will scare you away. His feelings are so intense that he gets scared away from you sometimes.
The first time he holds your hand is when you knick yourself while trying to do tricks with one of his knives.
You envy the way heâs able to just do the flips and graceful switches with the blades, and even how he can effortlessly play that five-finger-fillet game.
So, naturally, you try to replicate a trick youâve seen him do a million times and it ends with a little gash on the heel of your palm.
Itâs barely bleeding and looks more like a scrape, but as you hiss in pain Javier has forgotten his chore as he rushes to see what youâve done to yourself.
He tsks at you and gently wraps his fingers around your wrist to get a better look at the wound.
Youâve forgotten the scrape at this point as his touch is sending jolts of adrenaline through your arm and his face is so close to yours you could count his eyelashes if you wanted to.
He doesnât notice, too busy looking to see if youâve mortally wounded yourself. When heâs satisfied that you wonât die, he looks up at your face (Which is dark with a blush and youâre trying to avert your gaze from him, but you just canât).
He doesnât understand whatâs gotten into you until he sees your joined hands and a knowing grin cracks into his face.
âIâll kiss it, make it better,â He murmurs and presses a slow, tender kiss to the palm of your hand while gazing up into your eyes the entire time.
He knows what heâs doing.
Charles Smith:
I genuinely feel like Charles is the most well rounded of the group when it comes to his emotions and how he conveys what heâs feeling to you.
Communication king for sure.
The first time Charles holds your hand itâs like heâs always done it.
Itâs so natural to him that there really is no concrete first time that changed the meaning of your relationship or created some big deal.
Charles isnât really someone who likes to show off and isnât into public displays of affection. Brief hugs and hand holding are the only things he can bring himself to do with you if there are other people present.
He likes to hold your hand a lot despite that. Kissing, groping, or anything even a little heated is a big no for him (in private it is another story), so he likes to have your hands intertwined more often than not.
At first he would come up to you and hold his hand out, palm up, with a quirked brow as if asking you to place your hand in his. You oblige, of course, and he would follow you around camp or vice versa.
Now, Charles doesnât even bother asking before he comes up to you and just grabs your hand whenever he sees you.
Thereâs no question about it, the two of you are always connected.
If he can see you he is by your side holding on to you.
Itâs not possessive (unlike Dutch cough cough), but itâs more for his own comfort. He likes being near you and he likes that you seem to enjoy being near him.
Charles finds his twin flame in you, his other half. Much more than a soulmate, but his person.
Sean MacGuire:
Sean never really knows where the two of you stand in terms of a relationship.
He flirts with you over and over and over again. You laugh and blush occasionally, but end up telling him to shut up and wandering off.
He knows that he can come off as a sarcastic ass, but he didnât realize that itâs so intense that you canât even tell that heâs genuinely trying to get you to notice him as more than a friend/fellow gang member.
The thing is, it is hard for you to tell. Sean isnât known for being the most serious guy in the world and youâll be damned if you let him make fun of you by flirting with you and making you swoon or something.
The first time you hold hands with Sean is also consequently the first time you see Seanâs feelings for you are genuine, not some trick.
You turn away from Sean after heâs thrown yet another flirty remark at you, but before you even have the chance to mutter âShut up, MacGuireâ Heâs shot out and wrapped his fingers around your own in a strong grip. It doesnât hurt, but you canât just pull away and tell him to stop messing around.
You turn back and look down at your conjoined hands.
âPlease,â He begs and pulls you an inch closer. âListen to me.â
You can hardly focus on anything but the warmth of his hand in yours and the way it makes your heart swell and tingle.
He explains his feelings for you, every last one of them. Some were a little more explicit and detailed than you expected, but you appreciated the straight forward honesty.
Letâs just say after that conversation the two of you hold hands and more pretty often in the future.
Sadie Adler:
Sadie and you hold hands all the time. She literally cannot tell how you feel about her.
Is this a friendship? Is it more? She has no idea because youâre so comfortable with her that the line between friends and partners is so blurred Sadie isnât even sure if there was a line to begin with.
One night, you and Sadie are lying outside the tent that you share stargazing. Sadie is telling you what she knows about the stars and you chime in every now and then with your own little details. She loves the excitement in your voice when you remember the story to a constellation or find one that you hadnât notice last time.
Your bodies are close, but your hands are closer. Lying in the grass, Sadie can feel the heat from your fingers and hers twitch and beg to touch yours.
Sheâs nervous, though, to take the relationship further. She doesnât know if sheâs ready to admit what she wants.
While sheâs debating if itâs worth it, your pinky finger stretches and curls around her own. She audibly gasps at the action and her head whips over to see if you realize what youâre doing.
Youâre already gazing at her with soft eyes and a small smile. It makes her bones turn to jelly at the sight and she tries to speak, but the only thing that escapes her mouth are sharp exhales as her words get tangled in her throat.
She tightens her pinky finger around yours, and you understand the meaning behind it.
It was all still confusing, but Sadie knew one thing: Friends donât look at each other like that.
do you have any headcanons for arguing and making up? iâm a slut for angst with comfort đ

AN: Sorry it took me so long to get these written! I went through some nasty writer's block and decided to play the game a little to help out but all that did was distract me for a week. This is definitely pretty roughly written -
I'm also a huge slut for angst with comfort, though, so I hope you like these! <3

Arthur Morgan:
Arthur gets frustrated easily when he feels like heâs not being listened to or understood. Itâs not really anyoneâs fault, but his emotions can get the better of him and heâll say something that he doesnât mean.
âYou got bait for brains or are you just being an idiot for fun?â (or something like that)
You know in the back of your head that he doesnât mean it, and he regrets it the second the syllables bounce off his lips. Your brain can know something but your heart will still hurt all the same.
Usually when Arthur is getting too big for his britches with you, you can shut him down and put him in his place. Itâs something he highly respects about you - not putting up with his bullshit when he gets like that. Sometimes, though, your eyes will start to water and you canât say anything without feeling a lump in your throat constricting your vocal chords.
You have to turn and walk away or else youâll cry in front of him. That would just make everything worse.
Seeing your form retreating, knowing that youâre running off because youâre hurt rather than angry, made Arthurâs chest grow heavy with guilt. His first instinct is to follow after you and hold you until youâre feeling better.
But since heâs the one who hurt you, he just lets you walk away and he goes to pout since he thinks he deserves to be outcast for a little while.
Heâll give you as much space as he can bear, avoid you for an hour maybe two, but he comes crawling back with those puppy dog eyes and a singular wild flower in his fist.
Heâll go to his cot where youâre sitting with his hat in your lap. You stopped being upset five or ten minutes after the argument. Once you took a few deep breaths you understand, but you also had to understand that Arthur would come back to you after he was done punishing himself.
So you waited.
When you saw him approach with that sheepish expression and slouched posture your heart bled for him. He was a brute and an ass at times, but he meant well.
ââMâsorry, Darlinâ,â Heâd mumble and get on his knees in front of you. âI didnât mean it, I never mean it.â
He places the flower in your lap by his hat and gazes up at you. His hair is long and falling in front of his eyes a little, so you brush the strands away from his forehead to get a better look at him.
His blue eyes are a little red and thereâs a deep crease in his forehead from an hour or so of constant worrying.
âYou can be so mean sometimes, Arthur Morgan,â You scold him lightly and he sighs, nodding.
âI know.â
He spends the rest of the week making it up to you. Truly it doesnât matter exactly what was said or what the argument was about, when you are truly hurt by his words/actions it kills him.
Heâll punish himself for a bit then come back ready to spoil you with words, presents, kisses, and anything else you could possibly ask for.
John Marston:
Heâs constantly arguing with you about something. A lot of the time he just picks at you to get a rise out of you - he thinks itâs funny.
Things can get out of hand quickly with him if he grates on a nerve of yours and you bite back though. His first instinct is to give a smartass retort and it just spirals into a full-blown fight from there.
âJohn Marston you are a pig!â
You storm off and hide in your tent for a while. Heâs just standing there dumbfounded. He starts asking himself why he let it get to that point, why did he have to open his big olâ mouth and antagonize you?
He tries to get you to talk to him, heâll pace in front of the tent and start calling your name nicely. He wonât ever open the flap though, he doesnât want to invade your space and risk riling you up anymore.
When you ignore him heâll eventually get the hint and wander off.
He tries to figure out something to do while he thinks about how to make it up to you. He offers to help Arthur out with any bounty hunts or little jobs, heâll offer to take Bill or Lenny into town, or heâll just pick up extra shifts of being on lookout for the camp.
When you finally come out he has to restrain the urge to run to you and scoop you up, demanding that you forgive him so that he can stop pouting.
He does drop whatever it is heâs doing to approach you and makes small talk to test the waters.
âHow are you?â
âFine, John.â
âThatâs good⊠You still mad at me?â
You roll your eyes and try to walk away, but he shoots out and grabs your hand before you can get too far. He doesnât hold you tightly; his fingers gently encase your own, if you wanted to leave you could easily. But, you falter with your back turned to him and wait for him to speak.
âIâm sorry, really. You know Iâm an idiot.â Heâs practically whining as he says it, begging for you to look at him.
You turn your head slightly to give him a side glare. At first, the sight makes his heart drop into his feet and he thinks he really screwed up this time, but when a small smirk starts to quirk the corner of your mouth upwards he lets out a low sigh.
âYou are cruel,â He chuckles and tightens his grip as he pulls you into his arms and wraps you up in a bear hug.
Your laughs are loud and genuine as he twirls you around, pressing chaste kisses to your cheeks as he does so. Your voices echo throughout the camp once again.
Everyone in camp knows whatâs going on with you and John whether youâre fighting or making up, your business is everyone elseâs.
Dutch Van Der Linde:
I want to start out by saying Dutch never actually apologizes when you two fight. Heâll buy gifts, say pretty words, whisper sweet nothings, and all the like, but the words âIâm sorryâ have never left that manâs lips in his entire life. He will not start now.
Dutchâs obsession with the OâDriscollâs can cloud his judgment on many things, it makes him blind to reason. Further than that, it makes him hateful and sometimes just plain mean.
He trusts you, he loves you. So, youâre stuck listening to his plans and his grievances with the gang, the law, the OâDriscollâs, and any other misfortune he has had to endure in his life.
Heâll go on and on, plotting, groaning, whining. One night, after being sat on his cot for hours, youâve had enough. You beg him to do anything but complain and come up with a half-brained plan to get rich quick.
It hits a nerve and he blows a fuse.
âYou donât understand whatâs at stake, do you?â Heâs practically yelling. âItâs so easy for you - I spoil you!â
Youâre stunned into silence as he shouts at you. You didnât expect him to blow up.
âGet out of my tent, get out of my sight!â He sends you away. In a daze you stumble out of the tent and into the dark camp.
Thereâs a few people still up wandering around. Mary-Beth is singing by the fire and Kieran is trying to sing with her, but doesnât really know the words. Your feet start moving on their own and you take a seat across from the two at the fire.
âWhatâs going on, gunslinger?â Karen shuffles to a seat beside you and settles down. Mary-Bethâs singing falters for a minute but she continues on, just quieter.
âDutch is pissed.â You mumble, staring into the flames.
âWhen is he not? Have a drink,â Karen shoves a bottle of beer into your hand and watches as you take a long swig. She continues, âHave some fun without him for once.â
The night takes a turn from there. You sing and dance and laugh. A few more people join in until itâs gone from moping around the fire to a proper party around it. Javier even brings out the guitar. The noise is enough to draw Dutch from the dark hole in his tent to see whatâs going on.
When he sees you, the tears on your cheeks have dried and your face is flushed from the drinks, he canât help but feel a little guilty. To him, afterall, you were just naive. You didnât understand what was truly going on in the camp, didnât understand his plans.
He creeps out of the tent and sneaks up behind you as youâre dancing along to Javier and Mary-Beth. When a pair of arms wraps around your waist, you let out a little squeal.
Dutch spins you around so that youâre facing him, your bodies pressed flush together causing a heat to flare in your stomach.
âMy beautiful dancer,â Dutch mumbles and presses a soft kiss to your lips. You donât fight, donât ask any questions. Youâre just happy that he seems to be sorry for what he did. Heâs holding you after all of that, kissing you. He must be sorry, and so are you.
When he pulls back you gaze at him with half-lidded eyes. âIâm sorry, Dutch.â You whisper.
âHush now,â He starts swaying as he holds you, leading you into a dance.
Your fight is practically forgotten by the end of the night. In the early hours of the morning, everyone is stumbling back to their respective beds. Stomachs are full and heads will be aching come noon, but to you it was all worth it. So long as you and Dutch arenât fighting anymore.
Javier Escuella:
He hates fighting. I mean not in general, but just with you.
He wonât allow himself to be taken advantage of or walked all over, but if thereâs some stupid argument thatâs making you mad he will roll over and apologize. Just to keep the peace.
He loves you more than he loves being right, and if it makes you happy to just admit that then so be it.
When yâall do fight, though, itâs over something big. Stupid quarrels are so rare that the first time anyone catches wind that the two of you had a falling out it shocks half the camp to the core.
Javier would only truly get upset with you in a life or death situation. Like when you decided to not tell anyone you were heading into town really quick and met a few OâDriscollâs in the general store.
When you saw them you recognized them as few that had gotten into a fight with Javier in town a few weeks ago. Javier let them walk away to save face, there was a large group of witnesses that would have pretty much guaranteed him an execution if he had taken their lives.
Your heart skipped a beat as one of them turned to look at you, but they left shortly after you entered the store and you prayed that would be the end of it.
After you finished at the store, though, you walked through the door to find the three men standing in the road before you. Their arms were folded across their chests and their legs spread in a dominant stance.
You clutched the items you bought to your chest and tried walking away from the trio, but one of them called out and made you stop in your tracks.
âYouâre one of Dutchâs people ainât you?â The tallest one said. It wasnât really a question, he knew who you were.
âAnd whatâs it to you, mister?â You shot back, reaching for the dagger in your belt.
âIâve got a few questions for you about your boss.â The three of them started moving towards you. They surrounded you and backed you to the wall of the general store. You whipped out your dagger to tell them to back off, but it wouldnât do much against three of them - you knew that and so did they.
The only reason you had made it out of that situation without even a scratch was because Arthur happened to be riding through town on his way back to camp and noticed the commotion.
He brought you back to camp, and thatâs where you saw Javier standing at your cot with this arms crossed and a scowl darkening his features.
âWhat the hell were you thinking?â He practically shouts at you.
You didnât mean to, you held them back as long as you could, but tears start flowing freely down your face in large, hot drops.
Javierâs scowl disappears almost immediately. He didnât expect you to cry. Maybe yell back or explain yourself, but not cry. He drops his arms and grabs both of your hands in his.
âAre you okay?â His voice is low and laced with worry. Arthur got to him first and told him what happened briefly, so he knew you werenât physically hurt, but other than that he didnât know what happened.
âThey surrounded me. I was - I was so scared, Javier.â Your throat was thick and it was hard to speak. Javier embraced you, rubbing your back and holding the back of your head as you cried harder into his shoulder.
âYouâre safe now,â He assures you and presses soft kisses into your hair.
He spends the next few days feeling guilty for being mad at first.
You tell him you understand his reaction and that you were sorry, but he just says sorry back to you and claims he shouldnât have been angry when you were scared.
Youâre both equally sorry, I guess.
After that, though, Javier refuses to let you go anywhere alone. You donât have to go with him but you have to have a traveling buddy in case anything like that happens again.
Charles Smith:
Doesnât fight with anyone, really.
Sure, you can get mad at him and yell and hold a grudge, but he just lets you figure your emotions out from afar if thatâs what you need. He gives you space when you need it, attention when you want it, and does anything that he can for you.
He loves you more than anything in the world, so when youâre mad at him it eats away at his insides until you make up. Heâs literally the consent king, though, and will wait for you to come to him before he initiates anything.
It feels like he doesnât care sometimes. It drives you crazy that he doesnât chase after you and try to make up with you then and there or rectify the situation immediately, which turns into another argument.
âDo you even give a shit what I feel?â You frown at him one morning after a small argument that he just brushed off from the night before. He assumed since you slept with him in his bedroll, that meant you were over it.
âI love you! What are you talking about?â He rubs at the little stubble on his chin in exasperation.
âYou never listen you just say âokayâ and move on. You donât learn that way, Charles. You roll over and the same thing will keep happening because you arenât listening.â You try to explain yourself. Charles nods but you canât tell if he actually gets what youâre trying to convey since he never acknowledges it more than that.
You sigh and get up.
âI need a minute, come talk to me when you can.â You walk away from him and towards Miss Grimshaw doing the laundry.
Charles just stays where he is and lets out a long deep sigh. He thought it would be better for him to just agree with you, it would make you happy to be agreed with rather than continuing to fight over something so trivial.
He hasnât been with the group for a super long time, but heâs created a strong bond with Arthur. So, thatâs who he goes to to ask for advice on the whole situation.
Charles relays as much as he can back to Arthur and the cowboy just starts to chuckle at the absurdity of the conversation. Heâs used to people coming to him for advice (he doesnât really get why), but the situation with you and Charles came out of nowhere for him. He didnât realize you two fought ever.
âNo relationship is perfect, Charles.â Arthur suggests.
Thatâs literally no help to him so Charles walks off and tries thinking what to do. He comes up with nothing, though. Which makes him frustrated.
He starts walking towards you. You look up and see his determined face and scrunched brow and excuse yourself to meet him halfway.
âWe need to talk.â He says, his words are intense but his gaze is still soft. You arenât scared of him anyways.
âI think we do.â You reply and follow him to a private area right outside of camp.
The whole time he goes off about how he doesnât get what you want from him. What you expect him to do or say when you get mad or annoyed.
âI just want to know you care about me and my emotions.â
âDear, I care about you more than anything in the world. More than life itself, why do you question it?â Heâs basically pleading with you to understand him, to finally see that just because he isnât as forward with every single thought (good or bad) on his mind doesnât mean he doesnât care about you or your emotions.
It takes little to no time for you to throw your arms around him in an embrace and mumble an apology into his hair.
Even your big fights arenât really fights.
Sean MacGuire:
Sean does stupid stuff all the time. Literally he does stupid stuff more often than he does anything smart.
Especially when heâs drunk.
One night a small group of some of the gang decided to head into the saloon in town for a drinks for the night. You and Sean were always up for a good time and tagged along - obviously.
It presented opportunity for a little pickpocketing as well (if you didnât get too drunk and sloppy to do it).
Everything went well for the first hour. Drinks were shared among the group and laughs were bellowing through the air with a contagious warmth. Better yet, no one seemed to be testing the waters and starting a bar fight.
Sean had his arm around you the entire night. He claimed it was to let all the scoundrels at the bar know that you were his and no one should even try to stake a claim to you.
You rolled your eyes but stayed nestled in the spot.
That is, until you were pulled away by your bladder. All the drinks were catching up to you and you slipped from under him to run to the restroom really quick.
When you came back, though, a working woman had taken advantage of your absence to catch Seanâs attention.
In his drunken state, Sean couldnât even realize that the weight of the woman beside him wasnât the same as when you were sitting there before. He didnât say a thing as her arms wrapped around his torso or when she ran her fingers through his longish hair.
Tears fill your eyes almost instantly. You try to blink them away and get a better look at the scene in front of you, but it doesnât change. It only gets worse as her lips start leaving rougey red stains on his neck.
âSean!â You shove at his shoulder. When he sees you in front of him, his bleary red eyes turn to the woman beside him. His brain takes a minute to put two and two together, but by the time he has figured the situation out you are pushing through saloon patrons to get out into the night air.
Sean sobers up immediately. He pries himself out of the grasp of the other woman and follows your trail out the door.
He calls your name over and over again until he finally finds you sitting on the street corner crying into your knees.
âPlease, Love!â He approaches you and your head whips up at the sound of his voice.
âYou stay away from me you dog.â You snap and get up. Youâre still pretty drunk as well however and you wobble and nearly fall over at the sudden movement.
Luckily Sean catches you by the arm before you can tumble into the dirt.
âI didnât know she was there, honest. Thought you was there beside me.â He lifts a hand to your cheek, ready to brush away some of your tears, but you turn your cheek and shrug him off.
âSure.â You say and try to walk away. He catches your arm again and turns you towards him once more.
âHonest, Love. Why would I pay for sex anyways - Iâve not a penny to me name and you give it to me for free.â
The sentiment was there, but definitely not the right thing to say.
You have to physically restrain yourself from hitting him upside the head at his words.
He sees the struggle on your face as soon as he says it and clamps a hand over his mouth.
âSean MacGuire you bastard!â You shout at him, but canât help a weak laugh from erupting from your throat at the end.
âI didnât mean that, oh lord I didnât.â The terror in his face only causes you to laugh harder.
The laughter surprises him and even yourself, so much so that the both of you are laughing. Though you donât really understand why.
âIf you ever-â You say with a mocking glare, âEver do something like that or say something like that again, I am leaving you Sean MacGuire.â
âI wouldnât blame you one bit,â He says somberly, still with a small smile.

I didn't write for Sadie because I genuinely could not think of a situation for her or how she would be, my brain died halfway through writing Sean's. I'll just have to write some Sadie focused hc's next time teehee~
Can you do headcanons for Hosea with a daughter? (Or child if you'd prefer gender neutrality)
She's his kid with Bessie, and I was wondering how the two would be, growing up in the gang, how he'd be as a father, how she'd be with the other members, whatever you'd like to write!
As for her age, I'm thinking young adult during the events of the game, maybe John's age too
Thank you!

<><><><>
Childhood Years:
According to Hosea, you were the only good thing he had ever done with his life.
Being his only child with Bessie, you were spoiled as much as he could afford. As an infant you were given the warmest blankets, the softest toys, and the most attention he could give you.
That short period of time where he left the gang was around the time that you were born after him and Bessieâs wedding. He wanted to give you a proper childhood away from the hardship of the life of an outlaw.
As he said himself, though, the life just draws you back in.
When he went back to Dutch he brought you and Bessie with him.
Hosea worshiped and adored you. Everything he did in the gang he convinced himself was for you and Bessie.
He told you the story of Robin Hood as you grew old enough to understand stories before bedtime. Heâd sit you in front of the fire and smile as you gazed up at him in wonder while he told the tale of the hero who stole from the rich to give to the poor.
During the earlier years of the gang, when they still stole for the good of others in one way or another, you always thought of Hosea as Robin Hood - he was a hero to you.
You started calling Dutch âUncle Dutchâ and considered many other members of the gang as family.
You were only eight when Arthur was brought in to the group. You followed him like a shadow and it warmed Hoseaâs heart to see you trying to play with another kid (even though Arthur was fourteen by this time - he was still the youngest person for you to hang around).
Since Hosea eventually started viewing Arthur as a son, you viewed him as your badass older brother.
Teen Years:
By the time you turned fifteen, you were expected to start contributing to the gang. Most of the time you were just a pickpocket. Hosea didnât want you robbing trains or putting yourself in any real danger, and Bessie wouldnât allow you to do anything that could taint your soul (as she would put it).
For a while you were just quick and sneaky.
Arthur watched over you whenever you went into town to grab a few coins and watches from the people walking through the streets just in case anyone caught on to your act and you needed assistance.
You whined to Hosea that you felt like he didnât trust you to take care of yourself since Arthur was always babysitting you, Hosea said heâd figure something out. He knew you could take care of yourself, of course.
He fixed it by telling Arthur to be sneakier while he was watching you.
Once you turned sixteen, Hosea started taking you on hunting trips with him. He wanted to make sure you could take care of yourself and your mom in case anything happened to him.
âGive a man a fish, heâll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, heâll eat forever.â Heâd say on nearly every hunting trip the two of you went on.
âBut weâre hunting deer, Pop, not fishinâ.â Youâd correct him and heâd just wave his hand in the air as if to dismiss you. âSame concept, kid.â Heâd retort.
At seventeen, John joined the Van Der Linde gang. It was the first time there was someone exactly your age near you daily that you got to interact with.
At first, John was following Arthur around like a puppy and it made you so jealous. You complained to Hosea about it, you said John was taking your brother from you and it wasnât fair.
Hosea laughed lightly whenever you dramatically groaned and whined and told you to give it time, John would become your friend as well.
Hosea was right of course, as always. After a month or two the amazement over Arthur Morgan wore off and John became a great friend of yours.
The two of you bickered a lot, though. Being the same age and all, you were constantly at each otherâs throats.
Bessie always said that you and John were like an old married couple. That comment caused you two to look at each other gag over dramatically.
Young Adulthood (around the events of the game):
When your mom, Bessie, died a part of you died with her. Hosea might as well have died too.
For a year, he never left his bed and when he did it was only to grab another bottle of whiskey to drown his sorrows in.
Some days were better than others during he grieving, but there were weeks that would go by when he couldnât bear to look at you.
You had Bessieâs eyes and her smile. You had all the best parts of Bessie and seeing her in you but not seeing her made Hoseaâs heart shatter all over again.
During this time you depended on Arthur and John to be your rocks. They were the ones who kept your focus away from the black hole of grief eating away at your insides. And during the days that the grief was too much to handle, they pat your back and held your hand while you let yourself rot away in bed.
Some nights John would come to see you when he couldnât sleep and the two of you would cry over Bessie until you drifted out of consciousness.
Everyone felt her death deeply.
As time goes by, your wounds have healed as have Hoseaâs. He sobered up and after a long crying session where all you two did was hold each other and reminisce over Bessie, you were a family again.
During the events at Blackwater, you were Hoseaâs first priority. He got you packed and to safety as fast as he could once it was time to flee.
In that huge snowstorm on your way east, Hosea gave you his extra jacket and gloves to keep you warm. You rode in the wagon with Abigail and Jack, huddling with them for warmth and assuring them that John would be okay and back soon.
For a while after Blackwater, Hosea refused to let you out of his sights. After what happened with Bessie and the chaos that was that whole situation, you were the only thing he lived for. He couldnât have anything happen to you.
You didnât complain, either. You didnât want to be away from him for a while. You were terrified during Blackwater, terrified youâd lose him or John or Arthur. You let him baby you and watch over you like a hawk as long as it gave his mind peace.
At Horseshoe Overlook, you went hunting with Hosea as often as you could. It was like a tradition for the two of you.
âGive a man a fish,â Heâd start his lecture on the importance of learning survival skills and youâd have to stifle a groan and a laugh.
Youâd probably heard that phrase nearly a million times at that point. He always said fish, too. Never changed it for whatever you were hunting.
Hosea wasnât only your father, but your best friend. He was the best person you knew despite his occupation, and you adored him with your entire being.
He wasnât technically a good man, but he was a great dad.

Arthur Morgan:
Your father owned his own saloon which gave him an incredible insight into the type of men who frequented his establishment. He thought of this as a blessing once you started growing older and wishing to be courted, he could keep an ear out for anyone that he deemed unworthy for you.
Unsurprisingly, anyone who frequented the bar was not someone your father wanted anywhere near you. Especially when it came to an outlaw by the name of Arthur Morgan. The two of them had a long-standing feud (actually it was your father who hated Arthur and Arthur was too busy being infatuated with you to notice).
The first time Arthur was seen speaking to you in front of the saloon, your father came barreling through the doors to usher you inside. He instructed you to never speak to him again. Of course you didnât listen.
Months go by and Arthur has made an extreme effort to get as close to you as he can without your fatherâs knowledge. The two of you will just so happen to go to the same general store at the same time every Friday by âaccidentâ, you just so happen to run into him when you take your horse for a little trail ride to exercise, and every once in a while you both somehow end up behind the theater at on show nights by some strange chance of fate.
After a while, youâre so sick of having to keep your interactions short and sweet and secret in the public eye (lest anyone witness it and run off to tattle to your father). You write a quick letter to Arthur one day asking him to meet you at the side of your house at midnight.
When he gets there and youâre nowhere to be found heâs beyond confused; itâs not until he hears a sharp whistle and looks up to see you waving at him from your second story window that he understands your plan.
âThe things I do for you, woman.â He grumbles with a smile and begins hoisting himself up the tree conveniently located right by the window.
Youâve already got the window open as he reaches the top and you begin helping him crawl inside. Now Arthur is a large, bulky man he isnât exactly as nimble as he might have been once upon a time. You can barely contain your giggles as he lumbers into the room ungracefully and nearly face-plants into the rug on your floor.
âI ainât had to do this since I was a boy,â He smiles down at you once he steadies himself as you grin up at him widely.
âYouâre still young enough to climb through a ladyâs window yet, Mr. Morgan.â You tease.
Itâs the first time the two of you have ever truly been alone since you met and the tension in the air is palpable. Arthur looks between you and your carefully cleaned and decorated bedroom, then down at his dirty boots on your rug and worn denim pants. He was the complete opposite of you - he didnât deserve to ruin your space with his grimy life and clothes.
âWhat you thinking about, Cowboy?â You place a hand on his cheek and turn his head to make him look back at you. Heâd confess a few of his doubts, not trusting himself to tell you that he doesnât deserve you flatout, and youâd shake your head and lead him over to your bed and have him sit down.
Youâd kiss him and quiet his thoughts, allowing your actions to say more than words ever could and from that moment on heâd find himself climbing up a tree every other night.
Your father didnât figure it out ever, even though Arthur and you were hardly ever quiet.
John Marston:
You were the most beautiful person that John had ever seen in his entire life. You were walking in the middle of town with some man nearly twice your age and John figured you were married to him - some lady victim to a man with money and a ring.
John fantasized about swooping you into his arms and saving you from a life of excruciating monotony. Heâd tell the old man to kick the bucket, maybe rob him of whatever cash and valuables he had on him, and let you live your life free with him.
When he overheard you refer to the man as your father John felt absolutely giddy. He took his hat off and tried to smooth his hair down as he moved to approach you and introduce himself.
Your father watched the outlaw walk up to the two of you with a skeptical eye. He was hoping the cowboy would walk past you, but he stopped right before you and held out his hand to you. âJohn Marston, MissâŠ.?â He prompted.
Your father shut it down immediately. He was so incredibly unamused that he stepped between you and John and shoved his arm down. He told John to basically get lost, but John ignored him and kept his eyes on you.
It was like love at first sight.
You couldnât tear your eyes away from his and couldnât hide the growing blush that heated your cheeks as he ever-so-slightly smiled at you. A small smile that disappeared as your father demanded his attention.
âNow son you get out of here before I get angry. I donât want you anywhere near my daughter, you got that?â
John wanted to laugh at his vague threat. Who did this guy think he was? John put both hands up to show he meant no harm and took a few steps back.
âDidnât mean nothing by it, sir,â He shrugged, âWas just being friendly.â
Your father scoffed saying he didnât want any of Johnâs kindness and neither would you. You caught Johnâs eye while your father was speaking and mouthed âsorryâ with a sweet smile.
John was smitten immediately. He may seem like a big tough outlaw, but the guy is secretly a huge soft romantic. He was already envisioning your wedding and the type of house you two would build together in the middle of the prairie where no one would bother you and you could leave your respective lives.
He may have been getting ahead of himself.
Your father dragged you away and into the general store, John went off to finish a few more errands. He didnât think heâd actually ever see you again until the moment he went back to his horse to ride back to camp.
He felt a quick tap on his shoulder and there you were looking at him with a mischievous glint in your eye.
From that moment on the two of you had to meet in secret - away from the watchful eye of your father. John took to sneaking in your bedroom anytime he got the inclination to see you (which was a daily occurrence tbh).
Heâd take a stroll around the house to make sure your fatherâs room lights were off and see if yours were on and you were still awake. Due to his frequent visits, you were always up late waiting for him to call on you.
It was all fun and games until heâs waking up at the ass-crack of dawn to climb back out of your window before your father woke up to find him lounging in your bed. That would be a messy scene.
Dutch Van Der Linde:
Dutch thought he was too old to have to worry about meeting parents and getting the approval to see the lady he fancied. He was an old dog; he liked younger women of course but never the type who were of a higher social standing than him and needed that.
Then he met you.
You swooped into his life with your pretty dresses and sweet words and you didnât want him at all at first. It made him want you even more.
Itâs no secret that rich men are corrupt and willing to meet with anyone to make a quick buck. Your father met with Dutch to provide some intel about a train full of valuables and treasures that were interesting to both parties involved. Your dad wanted a cut of what was on that train provided the Van Der Linde gang robbed it.
Your father wasnât a good man. He enjoyed money a little too much, and saw you as property more than his daughter. He was overprotective of you - to the point that he refused to ever let you out of his sight for even a second.
You went to every meeting between the two men and at first didnât give a damn about Dutch. You thought he was handsome, but not the type of man youâd ever be interested in. Not until your father warned you to stay away from men like that.
He even went so far as to comment that he didnât like the way Dutch looked at you. It fueled something inside of you. The idea of rebelling in such a way. Dutch was attractive, he had money, an exciting life, and most of all it would piss your father off if you courted the gang leader.
The next time there was a meeting between the three of you, you bat your eyelashes and laughed at Dutchâs jokes a little too hard.
Dutch bid you farewell by kissing the knuckles on your hand, and you loved the way your father basically had smoke coming out his ears at the action.
Your father didnât bring you with him the next time he went to a meeting with Dutch. He locked you in your room, and only unlocked the door to check on you before bed that night.
You were pouting and writing a long sob-story in your diary when you heard a soft tap on the glass of your window.
You pulled back your blinds to see Dutch crouching in the dirt by your window with a wicked grin on his face.
âCan I come in, Darlinâ?â He cooed with a sweet voice. You opened your window immediately and he ducked through the frame.
âYou didnât come with your father today, he said you didnât want to attend the meetings anymore.â
You explain that youâve basically been kept a prisoner in your room all day since your dad was convinced Dutch was trying to steal you away from him. You grumble out a few curse words after you explain and roll your eyes.
âWhat if I am tryinâ to steal you away?â Dutch whispered, his eyes dark and sparkling in the lamp light. You didnât realize how pretty he was.
You bite your lip and smile, trying to keep on a tough act at his words. Itâs no use, though. Heâs charming, itâs why he is who he is.
âMaybe Iâd let you,â You reply in a sultry low tone.
Thatâs all Dutch needed to hear. He helped you pack a small bag of items to bring with you and he brought you back to the camp where the gang was staying.
On your bed, you left a note telling your father you were running off with a man. Shortly after that Dutch mailed out a post saying he didnât want to do business with your father anymore. It was all settled.
He stole you away to join him at camp, and thatâs where you stayed.
Javier Escuella:
You met Javier by chance one night when you were being harassed by a local lawman after a night out at the theater. Javier rushed to the alley when he heard your shouts ordering the man to stay away from you.
Javier saw red and let his instincts take over him. He grabbed the man by the collar of his very nice shirt and used it to throw him to the mud.
âThe lady asked you nicely to leave her alone. Now, I wonât be so nice if I have to ask. So, tell me, do I have to be the one to request you leave her alone?â
The man scrambled in the mud, splattering it on his dress pants and coat, as he picked himself up and ran away.
Javier introduced himself and offered to walk you home. You were a little wary of him at first, what with the guns at his belt and the knife at his thigh, but he assured you that he was not a threat. He just didnât want you risking getting harassed again on your journey to your house.
You took him up on his offer and as he dropped you off at your front door you gave him a quick, shy peck on the cheek and asked if he wouldnât mind coming to visit again in the future.
Javier is a blushing bumbling mess but somehow finds the words to agree and see you again later on in the week.
From that point on, this man spoils you in every possible way. He brings you flowers, fine pelts, jewelry (donât ask where he got it), and little poems he writes or likes just so that you have a little piece of his heart.
Does your father care about all of that? No. He just cares about Javierâs status as an outlaw, a killer. Heâs heard the rumors about the Van Der Linde Gang and he refuses to allow one of the members anywhere near you.
Javier is willing to do anything to see you, though.
You started leaving your windows perched open during the warm summer nights, and a low whistle alerted you to a person sitting right outside the glass. Your curtains were fluttering slightly with the wind and so all you saw was the shadow of a figure causing your mind to think of the worst scenarios possible.
You drew a knife from your vanity and clasped it in your hand ready to call for your father, but you heard a familiar voice lowly call out.
âMi amor?â
You let out a sigh of relief and pulled the curtains back fully to see Javier smiling at you with a bouquet of wild flowers in his hands. âI wanted to see you and I couldnât wait any longer.â
You asked him to wait outside while you barricaded your bedroom door with a stool, then opened the window wider for him to duck inside.
At first he didnât really know what to do with himself, he planned to give you the flowers and have a quick kiss before needing to leave - Â he did not expect you to usher him inside.
You took the flowers from his hands and placed them on your dresser next to the box of trinkets and gifts Javier has given you before.
You sit on your bed and make a spot for him to sit beside you. He isnât really sure what the gentlemanly thing to do is in that situation, but just to be safe he sits on the floor by your feet. Heâs gazing up at you as if you were the moon itself and doesnât even try to hide the way his breathing quickens every time your eyes meet.
It becomes routine for him to visit you nearly every night and wait for you to barricade your door before allowing him in. Eventually he gets more comfortable and feels better about sitting next to you on your bed - though he knows it was not the proper thing to do.
He really wanted to court you the proper way, but with your father being so hesitant to know him outside of his status he had to be a little lenient on conventional courting methods.
Charles Smith:
Charles has been sneaking into your room for years.
You were childhood sweethearts, but your father had hated the relationship from the moment you expressed any sort of soft feelings for the boy.
When he first started sneaking in, it was just because your father didnât want you to be friends. You and Charles were inseparable, so heâd sneak in when he could to read your books and play with your toys while your father was at work.
As you grew older, your feelings grew too.
You developed a strong crush on Charles and he was completely oblivious to it. At first, since you didnât know how to express your feelings, you pushed him away and told him to stop visiting you.
Charles was crushed when you essentially told him to get lost. He couldnât understand what caused your change of heart - he figured maybe your father had finally gotten to you and you realized you were too rich, too pretty to be his friend.
Charles stopped climbing through your bedroom windows and started only seeing you in public spaces or whenever you took your horse out for a ride.
Eventually, though, even those interactions dwindled and Charles stopped seeing you altogether.
It broke you when you didnât speak with Charles anymore. You thought it better that way. He couldnât find out your feelings for him - especially since you were certain he didnât feel the same way.
Years go by, you stop seeing Charles even in fleeting moments. You heard he ran off and was living alone in the wilderness.
It was your fault, you thought. You pushed him away during his time of need and now there was no way of knowing what became of him. Whether he was alive or dead.
You grow older, your heart growing cold and calloused, and you never really recovered from the hurt you put yourself through.
One night, youâre a passenger on a train taking you deeper into the west of America when there was a loud commotion at one end of the passenger car you were in.
You put down your novel and see a group of masked men with weapons demanding valuables from every patron they pass by. They were slowly moving down the aisle, approaching where you were sitting at an alarmingly fast pace. You couldnât think of a way out of the situation without giving away every last bit of money you had on you.
That is, until one of the masked men gets to you and instead of the harsh demands and pointed threats you expected to hear, you hear your name being whispered softly.
You look up, skin ablaze with fear and eyes watering. Through your tears you can see a familiar set of dark brown eyes peering down at you as if you were a ghost.
âChâŠCharles?â You squint. You questioned if it was just a mirage, a trick of your brain due to fear, but there was no doubting it. Those were Charlesâ eyes.
He softly grabbed you by the arm and helped you out of your seat.
âCome with me,â He whispered as he pushed you through the aisle towards the exit. âI promise nothing will happen to you.â
It was stupid, but you blindly agreed as he led you out of the train and onto the dusty earth.
Charles and you caught up as the rest of his posse finished robbing the passengers of the train. You learned that he had been taken in by the Van Der Linde gang and was making a living as an outlaw. After seeing what you did on the train, that part of his story checked out.
You caught up with him as well, you informed him of your fatherâs fate and how his will left everything to you. How you regretted pushing him away as a teenager and how you wished he could forgive you.
âI never even hated you for it,â He said softly, âThere is nothing to forgive, itâs how the world is sometimes. Cruel.â
You tried to explain your feelings at the time, but the embarrassment of it never let you fully explain.
Charles offered to take you home, but you wanted nothing more than to continue catching up with him and learning about his new life, his new family. Charles took you back to camp, and you ended up staying there with him for a few weeks. (For a fee of course, as Dutch had so cleverly thought up)
Your feelings for Charles rose to the surface once again, and you werenât sure when or if there would ever be a time to explain how madly in love with him you were.
Sean MacGuire:
The first time yâall met was when he was sneaking through your window late one night.
Dutch had given Sean a vague plan about robbing a local lawmakerâs house while the man was scheduled to be two towns over for some political business. Dutch figured it would be a quiet, simple mission to grab some extra loot and not worry about being caught.
Sean paced around your house a few times after midnight the day your father left, and when he didnât see any lights on or movements he figured it was safe to go in.
He checked a few key points of entry, but the windows on the ground-floor were locked and he didnât want to risk leaving any evidence of there being a break-in for when the lawmaker came back.
Sean noticed that a window on the second floor was open the tiniest sliver, heâd be able to use a dagger to wedge it open wide enough to slip his hand in and open it fully.
He climbed up some vines growing on the side of the wood paneling and pulled his dagger to wedge it open. Once he got himself inside, he turned towards the window to close it.
His entire body stiffened when he heard the metallic click of a pistol being cocked from behind him.
âNow Iâll only say this one time, Mister, you need to get outta here before I blow a hole in you and make a mess all over these clean floors.â The threat was serious, Sean knew that, but he couldnât help but perk up at the sweet sound of your voice as you told him you were going to shoot him if he didnât leave.
He put his hands up, dropping the dagger he had, and turned to face you slowly. The house was dark. Shadows danced across your face and shielded your eyes making you look lethal with the gun pointed at his chest. Sean thought you were beautiful.
âI mean no harm, Miss. Just business âs all,â Sean gave you a toothy smile which only made you narrow your eyes.
You told him you were going to give him one chance to leave and heâd only stay if he had a death wish.
Sean wanted nothing more than to stay with you and use whatever methods he could to woo you, but he was familiar with the look in your eyes and the tone of your voice. He was scheduled to meet the gods above if he didnât slip back out that window and into the night.
After he left, he was already planning the ways he could meet you again - under more favorable circumstances of course. He decided to visit you the next day with a peace offering and a smile.
Once dawn broke over the horizon, painting the world in a golden orange light, Sean was already up and out of camp heading to your large house on the hill.
He knocked on the door and you answered after a few minutes. Your hair was messy from sleep and your nightgown was covered by a long robe that was hastily thrown on to save your modesty.
âWhat the hell?â You grumbled and looked at Sean as if he had grown three heads. âEither you are the stupidest man on the planet for cominâ back here, or you truly do have a death wish. If itâs the latter give me a second to grab the gun.â
Sean was in love immediately.
âI wanted to apologize for last night. I never woulda thought âbout stealing from a man with such a pretty woman living under his roof.â He handed you a small box saying that it was a piece offering. Inside was a large silver coin and a note that said âthanks for not shooting meâ.
You rolled your eyes and scoffed, but pocketed the coin and note nonetheless. You invited him in, but warned him any funny business would not end favorably for him. He only shot you a coy smile and promised that he was only coming as a gentleman, not an outlaw.
The two of you grew as friends at first but once things seemed to grow more romantic, you had to start sneaking around and avoiding your father finding out about the relationship and how it started.
Sean was glad he got the practice sneaking in your window that first night, though, because it was common practice while the two of you had to keep your romantic relations a secret.
Sadie Adler:
Sadie was a shell of herself when you met her.
She was still mourning the loss of her husband and trying to become accustomed to her new life as a member of the Van Der Linde Gang when you stumbled into her one day.
She was just starting to get back on her feet and was at the tailors in town when you strolled in with your fancy clothes and styled hair.
She wasnât intimidated per say, but she felt a little inadequate in comparison. What with her ragged hand-me-downs from Miss Grimshaw and her few coins that she saved to buy a new linen shirt - you were like royalty compared to her.
You approached her first at the tailors. You asked if she had been in town long as you didnât recognize her, where she came from, where her husband was (assuming she was married). Sadie didnât know how to answer all the questions you threw in her direction.
You broke down her walls, though. You bought the shirt that she wanted and even invited her to tea with you at your house to talk about what had been plaguing her the last few weeks.
She didnât want it to help, but Sadie could physically feel the relief flood her chest as she stopped holding on to her emotions and let them flow freely. A friendship between the two of you grew quickly and rapidly.
Then, it grew to be a little more.
Sadie had been working on jobs with Arthur and gaining her confidence back. In doing so, she finally got the nerve to kiss you goodbye one night when she was getting ready to go back to camp.
She gazed at you nervously after she did it. She couldnât figure out what your expression meant - whether she went too far, or if you even liked her back in that way.
Tears slipped from your eyes as you looked up at her and grabbed her cheeks, shoving your lips against hers. Her kiss was sweet and gentle, but yours was aggressive and needy. You didnât realize she felt the same way about you, and knowing that she did created a swell in your heart that never went away.
After your first kiss, you had to keep your relationship on the downlow. Your father knew that the two of you were friends (he hardly liked even that), if he found out that yâall were girlfriends he would separate you for good.
Sadie came up with the plan to visit you during the day as a good honest lady of society, but at night she would climb up through your window to enjoy spending time with you as a partner instead.
Friend by day, girlfriend by night.
Sadie slipped through your window every other night, quieter than a shadow when she came in. Sometimes youâd turn around and she would just be getting in and it would make you squeak a little as it startled you.
She kissed you to keep you quiet when that happened, though (teehee)
Sadie would spend hours with you at night. Youâd help her brush her hair when there were missions she was on that took days and she wasnât able to care for her locks. Youâd let her borrow your nightgowns if she ever wanted to stay and relax in your bed until dawn.
The two of you would hold each other and talk until the mourning doves sang their melancholy songs in the early hours of the morning.
