i wouldve loved to have had a scene in one of the books where brightheart’s going to a gathering and shes felt a little more self-conscious abt her scars than normal, it happens but she cant help but have doubts in her appearance and what she looks like, but she musters up the courage to go to a gathering regardless [maybe whitewing just became a warrior and she wants to cheer on her daughter, or her new litter just became apprentices]

but she goes to the gathering and out of nowhere she just sees a group of like shadowclan warriors looking at her and she cant help but feel SUPER self-conscious like “oooohhhh man they’re probably newer warriors or maybe they’re just deciding to make fun of me tonight, great great-” and she maybe even considers leaving early when suddenly

“hey, brightheart, can you come over here??” they just call her over and she sloooowlllyyy makes her way over, waving off cloudtail, and as soon as she gets there, she just gets BOMBARDED with these praises from these senior shadowclan warriors

“we’ve heard your story passed down and have never gotten the chance to meet, i’ve always really wanted to tell you that i admire your scars and how proudly you carry them.”

“if it’s alright to ask, i heard you got them from dogs and survived, right? that takes so much courage, you’re such a strong cat!!”

“no wonder you have the -heart warrior name, if fits you well!!”

and brightheart is just like BLUSHING from head to paw because she genuinely thinks that cats are always talking about her when in fact, so many revere her!!! especially in shadowclan i think, shadowclan cats are the most battle-invested clan in the forest and brightheart’s scars are something they’ve all ALWAYS admired [even russetfur & blackstar, although neither of them will admit it to her face because hello thunderclan but the respect is always there]

and then in the future when brightheart goes to the gatherings, she jsut sort of makes a beeline for some of the shadowclan warriors and everyone is just kind of like ????? whats going on lol

but she’s just hanging out with these hardy and scarred up shadowclan cats who include her in inside jokes and talk to her abt funny stuff that happened over the past moon, gossip with her and everything and its SO cute and funny to her

she’s just laughing w/ them like “yeah i know im just a thunderclanner but i can subjectively say that at least we dont get as ruffled up about our scent markers as the rest of you, it’s not like you guys can take us in a battle, anyways!!!” and she’s jsut having a FUN time talking to her new buddies

cloudtail was worried that they might’ve been making fun of her or bothering her but she introduces him to them like “yeah this is my mate cloudtail, he hardly has a scratch on him because of all that FLUFF” and just fluffs his fur up while he’s like “awwwww thanks…..”

she probably points them out on patrols like “yeah those are my friends, they keep telling me im an honorary shadowclan cat and they’d take me in if i asked but i just told them i dont wanna stink like them” but she says it w/ a happy smile bc she loves being accepted and being fawned over a lil

i keep coming up with like clan culture concepts that i mean to use for fics and dont so here’s a few. you’re free to use them for whatever if you want or build on them or take inspiration or whatever

cat sign language, called “pawspeak”. it uses paw gestures but also other forms of body language. gestures can include paw movements, whisker twitching, ear movements, tail movements, or combinations. most clan cats know a lot of very basic words and phrases, though clans with hard of hearing members will be more familiar with a larger vocabulary. it is usually taught by elders to kits and apprentices. it’s also really useful for relaying information silently during ambush attacks. 

each clan has slightly different quirks to their version of pawspeak, usually based on what body part is favored for signs. windclan has a lot of ear emphasis since they have big ears, and it’s easy to see at a distance across the moor. thunderclan and skyclan use whiskers a lot, because tails and paws are necessary for climbing. riverclan favors tails, because riverclan has lush tails but also it’s easier to hold your tail above water. shadowclan prefers paws. 

surrogate system. to help keep bloodlines from getting too inbred, clans will sometimes crossbreed. this happens with both leaders approval, otherwise it is considered breaking the code. the kits are considered to be 100% whichever clan they are raised in, and the other clan has no claim to them (though sometimes clans will try to weasel deals out of it, like prey in exchange for a surrogate). kits are eventually told who their surrogate is, to keep track of bloodlines, but a surrogate is never considered part of the family. 

this can also happen with loners that are on good terms with the clans! having a kittypet surrogate is looked down upon, but the local barn cat is okay. this still should be okay’d with a cat’s leader. 

orphaned kits are often taken in for bloodline reasons too. some clans might still view them as outsiders, but generally the younger they are the more integrated they are into the clan

cats being renamed. if a trans cat wishes to change their name, how it goes depends on the clan’s leader at the time. sometimes a cat just picks a new name, and everyone accepts it and learns it. sometimes a new name will be picked by working with the leader to figure out something. sometimes the leader will pick something new for the cat. there’s always a renaming ceremony because that’s a canon ceremony. not all cats choose to do this (since warrior names arent gendered) but some cats feel more comfortable changing their name!

i once knew a girl who spent most of her free time reading gay smut, but she was extremely uncomfortable any time she had to interact with a lesbian because she was afraid they’d hit on her.

that’s not being a supporter. that’s fetishizing homosexuality. 

nobody cares if you ship destiel or johnlock or whatever, if you’re not okay with real life gay people, you’re still homophobic. it’s the same with guys who watch lesbian porn but don’t think that gay marriage should be legal. you can’t fetishize someone’s sexuality like that. that’s not okay and you are the worst kind of homophobe if you do.
