Fablehaven is a work of art. It’s the worst thing I have ever read. The character development is some of the best ever written. The character development is absolute garbage. The magic system is so cool. The magic system is a trainwreck. The plot is so good. Theres so many plotholes. Why does he write romance Like That. Oh he's mormon ok. The villains are amazing. The villains are so badly written. It has good representation. Its super fucking weird about its minority characters. It has actually well written female characters. What the fuck is Kendra's inner monologue. I love it. I hate it. I can fix it. Its unfixable. It fights against the trope of light being good and dark being bad. Wait nevermind actually yeah no it does not. I love the characterization. They would not fucking say that. Oh my god why are they naked.

Vanessa being a femme fatale is sooooo fun especially since her redemption is fueled by Kendra saving her life rather than her falling in love with a man who 'saves her from her wicked ways and evil rebellion' or whatever. Its also great because she never stops being competent either. She keeps spying and poisoning and sleep controlling and remains incredibly skilled after her redemption. Peak non pov character tbh.

I'd say you want easy reading I do recommend trying it out again! I feel like it helped me to get into reading again at one point cause it's like. interesting and immersive but flows easy. BUT don't expect incredible morals from it the author is a mormon and as an adult reader you can tell for sure. Looking at the plots too deeply you will notice how repetetive it is and how underutilized some characters are. I personally didn't mind it as I tend to enjoy patterns and playing with underused characters like barbie dolls. And I think the base worldbuilding is SO cool actually

It’s not like he’s super brave or fearless or anything he’s just been through so much shit keeping Fablehaven up and running that his brain just goes “well damn I guess this is happening now” and he just gives the dragon a wave and continues chopping wood or whatever.

Everyone else just kind of stares at him in horror and shock as he sits there making pleasant conversation with a literal dragon.
