My Splatoon stories are called Mind's Eye & Within Palace Walls. WPW has a fanfic I haven't touched bc I got covid and brain damage but I wan to get back to it one day. Mind's Eye is my own take on Octo Expansion from the perspective of Denizens of The Deep & a Chemist working for Tartar herself.
i am a transfeminist, and thus any transmisogynists/lesbophobes/biphobes will be blocked, thankies ✌🏻
Marina Ida, and I mean this in the most loving way, is the worst dancer of all idols. She's just submerged in her autistic trance and I respect her for that.
today is a great day to remember that all the BIN files for amiibo can be found online and that with a app like tagmiibo or similar and some cheap nfc sticker tags you too can access all the new collab content in acnh and also whatever villager you want without buying expensive plastic :)
The Sphiralite Islands seem to be some sorta mirage island type thing, based on how they apparently made the newspaper and how it took a map from a basement to even locate them.
Let's be so real here. Deep Cut went there to rob the place. They did the same with Alterna. A supernatural island just means cooler loot.
The salmonids definitely have been living there for a long time, they have similar decor to the ones from Salmon Run and very robust looking infrastructure.
Maybe this is the place (some) Salmonids live in? Real salmons come from the ocean and change color when they swim upstream into fresh water. Why would Salmonids be different?
The salt crust is something i imagine just naturally forms when you live in and near the ocean that long. The decor in the background has it too. Salmon Run Salmonids probably lost it when they got to fresh water.
They probably started attacking because, well, WE'RE ROBBING THEM BLIND.
That's Golden Eggs. We're NOT the good guys.
We're literally just coming into their house and taking shit, both random scraps and (potentially cultural) valuables. I'd start smacking them with dishware too.
Below we get into the tinfoil hat section, aka my breakdown of Deep Cut's role and motivations as well as the potential story. If you like reading way too detailed unhinged rambles about niche topics, this is for you.
I already made a half joking post about how chill they are with the whole "stranded on a weird mirage island that's populated by Salmonids and abandoned infrastructure" situation and just went RIGHT to treasure hunting. This one clip of Shiver in particular made me do a double take. She's an intense person, but something about both her and the Mechanic's body language tell me that she's being more intense than usual.
hard to demonstrate in an image. but just replay that scene.
And at least Frye seems to be injured, too. Deep Cut is, in my opinion, acting out of character. Shiver takes pride in being a put together leader, she wouldn't abandon that to go full sparkly eyes for treasure even if that's what they came for.
Frye would get silly with the situation, absolutely, but she also recognizes when something is serious and she needs to lock in.
Big Man would just straight up implode trying to get the situation under control! None of them are this careless, are they really that unbothered by this and just killing time until help arrives?
At the end of RotM, when Mr Grizz reveals his plan, Deep Cut locks tf in to help Neo 3. Even before that, their behavior gave the impression that they didn't think something THAT serious was going on. Even for Splatfests, they get pretty fired up about their choices, but when they're then informed they might have actually influenced something (such as Nessie vs Aliens vs Big Foot), they act shocked and surprised, but they take it seriously.
But here, they don't. How come?
Deep Cut seems to be obsessed with obtaining the treasure of these islands. And judging by the abandoned infrastructure, they weren't the first. Maybe it's the mystery, maybe it's something supernatural that draws people in.
Maybe they just want what they're told they can't have because they're better than the naysayers and those who failed before them, and the Salmonids are just an obstacle between them and what they believe they deserve. The wreckage isn't a testament to hubris, it's a challenge left behind by someone who was wrong, someone who wasn't good enough. You won't fail like they did, you're better than them.
