just call me stiles. i'm 17 and use he/she. this is my blog specifically for All Things Willard* but i do enjoy other things such as the wild west.

*not 2003 willard. he doesn't exist to me.

stiles family doodle, 1962ish. headcanons below the cut, mostly based on book characterization.

Benjamin: very stern, very work oriented, these things affected the household. he had begun to teach willard to help out with work when he was still little, and willard considered this "playing" with his father back then, because it was the only time they'd spend together save for the lavish parties benjamin would throw. benjamin killed himself when willard was 17-18. he was already prone to work-related bouts of depression or stress due to his company's financial instability, but couldn't handle having to sell out to jones(/mr martin).

Willard: falls somewhere under cluster b. but i cant say for sure which disorder(s). at the moment im thinking npd & aspd, and bpd traits. definitely autistic. all of these things are undiagnosed and obviously affects him heavily. he never felt fully human. his autism played a big part in that. probably aromantic and allosexual. never figured out he was trans but to be masculine felt like to perform. most of his life felt like a performance in fact. he knows his parents looked to him to take over the company one day, but that all got messed up when ownership was passed to jones. journaled much of his life, but after his father passed away he got rid of all of them. he only picked it back up with what we see in "ratman's notebooks". (i feel like i have more bbbut i cangt remember?)

Henrietta: very religious. benjamin was religious too, but not as much. it was after he died that she began going to church twice every sunday. willard's belief in god faded over the years but he could only stop going after she died. likes to think of herself as a woman of status. living in such a big house, married to a man with his own company, etc. when benjamin was alive she always made sure the garden was kept after, as the very pretty and very rare flowers grown there, to her, reflected status. same thing with her clothing, she owned many dresses and jewelry. she was a model for a short time before meeting benjamin but of course had to give that up once married. she would have liked to have more kids but nearly died with willard so decided against it. she loves willard, and willard knows this, but she also wishes her child were different. able to meet her expectations. still, after benjamin died it was like suddenly she depended on willard for every little thing.

too late to do any theatrical rereleases for the anniversaries of willard, ben, and willard(2003), but it is not to late to rerun willard(1971) in 2028 in honor of ratmans notebooks

very quickly reposting my ramble from the willard group bc i think its important

very often, i see people fundamentally misunderstanding willard's relationship with ben. he never hated ben, he feared him, even respected him, and this is one of those things the book expands on (people, PLEASE read it.)

i believe willard saw the rats as something he could finally control in a life that kept spiraling out of his control and going wrong. ben, however, could not be controlled, and this is why he scared willard. willard still loved him but his mistreatment of ben came from trying to hold onto his control. and after socrates died, the respect they had shared for one another disappeared. ben believed willard could have done something, not to mention how he'd been poked and prodded just the same by willard himself. and for willard, while he tried to let ben fill socrates' place, it became clear his life was spiraling out of control once again.

For his companion I have decided on Ben Suleiman. Ben Suleiman is the rat I previously called Solomon. I don't know why I changed his name. It is almost as if he forced the new name on me. (80)

Sleep is temporary death. For Socrates life is good. He likes it when I play with him. Therefore I should wake him up, bring him from death to life. (42)

and im too lazy to get it, but when he's going to first drown the rats,he notes how he believes Ma rat views him as a sort of god.
