Good talk response art piece
Family
This piece was created as a response to Good talk by Mira Jacob. In her book she talks about the obvious and not so obvious problems with being a person of color in the united states she has a deep connection with her family and how the world perceives them she mentions an idea in the book that truly resonated with me and is actually the reason I created this piece “If you marry me you marry how the world sees me” and to that effect I saw how in myself as a white passing person of color, a different person wouldn't see what they are getting into if they wanted to marry me until they saw where I came from and met my family. My personal identity has always been difficult for me to get grasp on and being so different looking from my other family members did create rifts I hadn't realized until I was older. I am comforted in the fact that my family has had a graveyard in New Mexico where we first homesteaded many years ago that has all my past relatives and presumably all my present and future ones as well, I’ll also be there one day and to my morbid comfort we will all eventually look the same.
