My grandmother was a painter. She started painting when she was young and never stopped. I’ve known her paintings my whole life, I spent time with her in her studio when I was younger, we have them hanging in almost every room at my parents’ and I even took some with me when I moved. After she passed, I helped my mom organize exhibitions of her and my grandfather’s (who was a painter too) works. We also made an inventory of all her (their) paintings, tracked down some to know who she gave/sold them to (between the two of them, we counted thousands of paintings and drawings of all size).

Her work mainly consists in somewhat abstract landscapes and still life. When I grew up, I started noticing faces and eyes standing out of these landscapes, some clearly drawn intentionally, some others I’m sure she had no idea we could see. I’ve been fascinated by these ever since.

This morning, while I was working, I looked up at the painting standing on my left, one I’m less familiar with ‘cause we only had it here for a few weeks and I’ve been home only since the quarantine started. And this morning I saw a face, then two, for the first time. Couple of weeks ago, I started drawing and using my watercolor pencils again. When I saw these faces this morning, I felt compelled to draw them, extract them from the rest of the painting. I kinda want to start going through all her paintings and find these faces, start a collection of them. Here is the first one.

I might try to post one a day if I can keep up the rythm.

I’m calling this “À visages découverts” (WordReference says the translation is “Undisguised”, literaly you could say “Uncovered faces”, kinda)

Quarantine time, time to get back to drawing! Imma try to stick to a drawing a day, we’ll see if I can make it!

Hi there! I haven’t been the most active those last weeks but I’m still working on this Gandalf hoop (bit by bit ‘cause I have a job and I am often too tired when I come back home, but still). I hope to finish it by the end of the summer!

Please note that I live in France so shipping costs might a bit be more than what you’re used to, and since I’m not home every day I may not be able to ship immediately.

I don’t have a shop yet but I’ve been thinking about it lately, maybe it’ll come at some point…
