What a chore. Heavy eyelids struggled desperately to remain open during the course of his game of Go. The shinobi had just awoken from his pre-noon slumber when a certain bossy kunoichi demanded his attention. It was none other than his teammate, Ino. For the life of him, he could not understand her unrelenting will to keep herself occupied at every waking moment of the day. Why couldn’t she be like him and just sleep? That’s what he was going to do before she interrupted him, of course. To make matters worse, she took forever and a day to make a move. As he recorded over 200 ways to defeat her, she was busy contemplating a single move. At long last, he defeated her, and with defeat came almost certain slumber.

 ❝ – Annnnnnd that’s game. Now if you’d excuse me,          I have more important things to get to–– ❞

               WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE even doing? Why did the young genin resort to playing such stupid games with Shikamaru while Sakura and the other girls were on a mission? He and Ino both knew there was no way she would ever win the damn game. She never minded the company of her teammate, but Ino hated that all he ever wanted to do was sleep or play stupid games that she couldn’t wrap her head around. He says everything bores him but what’s more boring than sleeping in all day?!

               ❛ NO WAY, SHIKAMARU. I SAY we go out and do what I like                  to do now! Besides, Asuma-sensei says you’re sleeping in                  too much! It’s not healthy! ❜ Ino stood up and declared loudly,                ❛ Grab your wallet! We’re going shopping! ❜

A WELCOMED DISTRACTION | ❪ headcanon & drabble for @oaeta​ ❫

                 IT WAS A QUIET DAY at the Yamanaka Flowers shop. The blonde botanist was arranging flowers as per usual, thinking to herself that she would never get tired of doing so. Flowers were her PASSION and being surrounded by flowers on a day-to-day basis was perfect for her. Not only that, but here she was able to find out the latest love stories all across the village. Several people come into the shop buying flowers for their significant others, asking Ino for all sorts of advice. With each purchase, she wished her customers luck and happiness. However, there was one individual whom visited the shop not for love, but for art. Which, in her opinion, was just as beautiful. 

                 AND JUST LIKE MAGIC, THAT very person that had occupied her thoughts, walked into the store. The beauty practically leaped out of her seat to approach the special costumer. ❛ Sai-kun! What a pleasure to see you! ❜ His features showed his usual smile, which made her immediately flustered. When Ino had first met Sai, she was instantly DAZZLED by his appearance. Admittedly, Sai did resemble Ino’s first crush, Sasuke, whom she hadn’t seen in nearly three years at this point. In her mind, it wasn’t as if she was giving him up to Sakura. No way she would admit defeat. However, Sai... seemed like a good distraction. And that’s what she called whatever she felt for him. A DISTRACTION. She was too stubborn to admit anything else.

                 THAT BEING SAID, THERE WAS no denying the fluttering in her heart each time she laid eyes on him. There was something mysterious about him that Ino was dying to learn more about. It had been a few minutes since Sai’s arrival, and Ino was happily being entertained by his presence. But it seemed like something was missing. It almost felt as if he was forcing a smile, and judging from what she’s heard about him, his smile was probably forced. Given his social skills, gaining his attention felt almost like a wasted effort. However it was also a challenge -- one that she humbly accepted. Deep within her heart, Ino felt like she wanted to see Sai’s true smile. And more than anything, she wanted to be the REASON for him to smile. She selfishly wanted that all for herself.

               INO TRIED TO KEEP SAI in her store as long as possible, but it seemed like all he had on his mind was to work on his painting. It was useless to keep him any longer, and thus she handled his purchases and he was on his way out. Her radiant smile soon faded as she watched Sai walk out the front door. Though he was one of the very few customers this day, it was strange how LONELY she felt after he took his leave. She couldn’t help crave more of his attention and she didn’t exactly understand why. He wasn’t Sasuke, after all. To Ino, Sai was just a welcomed distraction. She was too stubborn to accept anything else.

                THE BLONDE COULDN’T HELP become irritated at the reply she received from the fellow genin. All she wanted to do was give him a nice compliment. Ino was fully aware of Neji’s rather distant personality, but that shouldn’t mean he couldn’t say thank you at the very least. She was told by Hinata that their eyes are usually seen as cold or frightening, however the optimistic blonde saw them as beautiful pearls. Ino thought it would be nice to hear for once. It would appear that it was not appreciated.

               ❛ SHEESH NEJI-KUN. IT’S CALLED A compliment. Maybe you’re not used to getting them, but a ‘ thank you ’ would be nice to hear, ❜ she demanded.

“Well, to be fair, I don’t really do the same thing over and over again as a teacher. Every day is different. Kids are like that, you know. I never know what they’ll be up to. In fact, just before I left, I’d only just managed to stop one of my younger students from convincing himself that he was a secret user of the Mysterious Peacock Method. He’d been throwing himself off the old oak tree for days before that. That was a bit of an adventure.” 

He gives her a winning grin, withholding a laugh. “Could it be that Asuma-sensei’s just a little tired? Maybe he needs a break.”

               ❛ --- WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS? IN that case, I don’t know how you deal with people like that. I mean, I get a lot of WEIRD customers at the flower shop, but that’s only ever so often. Well, whatever floats your boat, Iruka-sensei. ❜ If it was anyone other than her sensei, she would have told them to quiet their job. But having been taught under him made her stop herself from saying it. He was, after all, an amazing teacher and she learned a lot from him as his student.

               ❛ HMPH. THE ONLY THING I ever see him doing is play boring games with Shikamaru as if he has a chance on beating him. ❜ Though it sounded like she was complaining, she did eventually have a smile on her face. She made a forced sigh come out and continued, ❛ Oh well. Maybe during this time off, he’ll take us to get some barbecue. I’m sure the other boys will enjoy that too. ❜ Choji especially.

                       THE BLONDE BEAUTY WAS MINDING her own business as she read one of her favorite romantic novel series. Now deep into the story, she had completely forgotten about her surroundings. ( Needless to say, she wouldn’t be able to fight and read at the same time just as Kakashi-sensei would. ) It was only until she felt a tug of her hair when Ino finally remembered that Sakura was by her side, probably growing inpatient waiting for the beauty to finish ‘ one more chapter. ’ The ponytail which held up the massive blonde locks of her hair, was pulled out and now scattered along the floor on which they were sitting.

                     ❛ SAKURA, DO YOU KNOW HOW long it takes for me to get my hair that w– ❜ But before she could finish her sentence, Sakura tugged on her hair harder signaling Ino to shut up. It was confirmed: Sakura was definitely pissed off for having wait for Ino this long. A small sigh escaped the blonde as she placed a marker in her book and set her book down. It was just getting to the good part, too! Sakura continued to play with Ino’s hair and was now braiding it.                        SHE, NOW WITH A SMILE on her features, let Sakura do as she pleased. Memories came rushing into her mind from when they were children — before they even consider themselves RIVALS. ❛ How nostalgic. This reminds me of the times we had sleepovers. Do you remember? ❜                       A FEW MINUTES HAD PASSED until Ino let out a gasp and had it be known that an idea popped into her head. ❛ We should have a sleepover! We can invite Hinata and Tenten! I think Temari might be visiting the village at some point, so we should have her over, too. What do you say? ❜

           A MINUTE HAD PASSED AND all Ino had been doing during that small amount of time was stare at Neji. It was a rare encounter that the two were ever alone with each other. For some reason, Ino decided to step dead in her tracks while the two were walking passed each other. There were no words exchanged previous to her staring at the other. And if the fellow genin was beginning to feel uncomfortable, she had not notice, nor would she truly care. ❛ You.... ❜ Ino finally started, but yet another pause filled the air before she actually got to her reasoning.            ❛ YOU HAVE REALLY PRETTY eyes, ❜ she spoke bluntly and with a genuine smile.

                A LOUD SIGH ESCAPED THE exhausted beauty. Ino had been on countless missions within the past few days, and it was finally time for she and her teammates to take a well deserved break. She, of course, chose to spend her day off by shopping. However as she walked around the village, her eyes locked on a very familiar face. All of her other plans were thrown out the window. It felt like it had been AGES since she’s seen Sasuke. And the best part? No Sakura in sight. There was no way she was going to let this opportunity pass. Ino immediately walked up to him.

             IF JELLAL had been to the hidden leaf village more often perhaps he would have known more of its nuisances. he would have known the short cuts down side alleys, the older lady that was always outside her house, and perhaps most important at that moment he would have known to stay out of the way when a certain pair blonde and pink haired girls got into one of their friendly arguments. — as is was though he wasn’t that fortunate and found himself in the line of fire via being barreled over.

               ❛ AND WHAT THE HELL DO YOU KNOW?! ❜  The blonde was screaming at her rival. The two were in a fight ( the fifth one this week ). It was almost always about the same subject -- and the reason why they became rivals in the first place: UCHIHA SASUKE. Unlike Sakura, Ino was clueless about the stranger behind her, and Sakura saw this as an opportunity of escape. Out of nowhere, the pink-haired girl ( WITH THE LARGE FOREHEAD ) shoved Ino into the stranger behind her. ❛ Wh --- ❜                INO’S BALANCE WAS THROWN OFF as she suddenly barreled over the stranger. Sakura immediately scurried off ( probably to find Sasuke ) and left the blonde behind.

               ❛ TCH! SHE GOT AWAY! DAMMIT. That dirty cheater! ❜ Getting back on her feet, she brushed away the dirty that now covered her attire. Glaring eyes looked back at the man she had just tumbled over as if it was his fault they were in this situation. ❛ Hm? Who the hell are you? ❜
