Sheâs not sure if sheâd classify the man as friendly or not; something about how he towers over her with a hardened voice that has her watching her own words, though thereâs a ghost of something a bit l i g h t e r, perhaps, that makes Effie thinks twice.
Maybe there wouldâve been more of a smile on his mouth in another life.
âLestan. Gotcha.â She clicks her tongue, trying out the name in her own voice without his heavy accent. âEffie - or, I mean⊠bebette, whatever that means.â
âBeing a part time ghoul doesnât pay what it used to before the world ended, so part time runner too.â She grins lopsidedly. âThough, well - that really hasnât been getting much either.â
Maybe he would have given her a real smile in another life. Maybe he would have given her a joke. Maybe he would have given her a hard time before dissolving into giggles. Maybe he wouldnât seem like a broken man in another life.
âBebette works for you better,â he deadpanned with a nod. Itâs like he forgot what a smile was, but he eyes still showed it. There was hope for him yet.
He shrugged, âWeâve âit a rough patch.â As if this world was completely normal. This was his sarcasm trying to shine through. âIf it makes you feel better, de forest isnât giving much eider.â
