I find it very offensive that the more unwell you are, the more things you have to do to maintain your health. Things like following special diets, going to medical appointments, making big and important decisions about what treatments to use. At the same time, the more unwell you are the less energy you have to do all of these extra things. It seems grossly unfair.

Alright first go I guess

Fascism has long been associated with physical appearance - eugenics itself is about promoting the physical ideal of pale skin, blue eyes and blonde hair, muscly lean men and slim women. The myth of the ideal nordic genes (looking at you Sydney Sweeney 👀)

Beyond just attaining the physical ideal that assures your place in a strictly controlled role (sex/gender, class, etc), the idea in particular of slim women is about fragility, therefore physical subservience, and OBEDIENCE. (I still care about ed amabs yall are valid and ily, this is just what I know about fascism and ed ❤️)

Your time and energy spent monitoring your appearance is time not spent on forming ideology or synthesising opinions. Your physical hunger is the dominant force restricting you from building community or wealth outside of the sanctioned channels. A hungry population cannot fight back. A preoccupied population swallows propaganda and doesn't think for themselves.

Purposefully or unwittingly signalling you uphold these ideals by harming your own body to attain the appearance of this mythical nordic genetics is part of how fascism divides communities. We are in constant competition with eachother for who can be the most controlled, the most perfect, the most fragile. The most worthy of what white supremacy has told us we need- protection and sexual attention. The foundation of the gender roles ascribed by fascism.

Recovery. Is. Political.

Choosing to recover is choosing to embody the ideals of equality and justice. It's not a choice most of us are able to make right now, that's why we're here. Associating food with failure is why we're here. But please take a second to interrupt that thought when it comes to you, and think about how fascism wants you to roll over and die right now. I will not, I refuse, and fighting to get better is fighting fascism as much as protesting or campaigning. Protest your own need to be perfect.
