Sheldon Turnipseed Style in Ghostwriter
It's GOOEY GUS, THE SLIME MONSTER! What an absolute crime that this guy was never made into a real toy.

Look what I bought...
Should I watch the Apple TV Ghostwriter remake?
Is it worth it?
Hmm. It just ain’t the same (Granted, I watched about one episode and a half). The kids on the new show literally talk “out loud” to Ghostwriter, instead of writing to him, which I feel was kind of the whole point of the old show - to teach kids how to read and write better. It had definitely done this for me. Those of us who watched it during it’s original run remember that it was on PBS, the public broadcasting service, back when children’s educational programming was a thing. This new show doesn’t seem to acknowledge that effort or vision in any meaningful way, and the characters just aren’t interesting to me. However, seeing as I am 35 now, that… probably makes sense. Jamal Jenkins and Alex Fernandez were so cool to me growing up. My best friend, Kevin and I used to wear those same fine-tip black marker pens on strings on our necks and call ourselves the Junior Ghostwriter Team. We were such nerds.
I remember my mom taking me to a live Ghostwriter performance by the Twin Towers so I could see my crush Blaze Berdahl sing on stage. Come to think of it, Ghostwriter is probably the first entertainment property where I unironically really wanted and owned their merch! Had a postcard with signatures of the whole team and I am pretty sure there is a branded Ghostwriter magnifying glass somewhere in this house.
All that to say, if you loved the show as much as I did, you might want to check out this new remake… out of sheer curiosity. It won’t bring you that feeling you’re looking for though. Things ain’t the same since Mr. Brinker’s store got burned down.
Interesting. I didn’t realize that they spoke out loud to Ghostwriter in this version. I feel like they should have kept the strictly written communication, even though they dropped the educational aspect. The fact that the kids could only communicate with him through writing was really unique and I’m disappointed to hear that that is no longer the case.
I’m trying not to be too judgmental of the reboot since I’m not the target demographic, but I was a little let down by the trailer. I didn’t watch Ghostwriter during it’s original run, but I am still really attached to the show and its characters. I was open to a Ghostwriter reboot, but was hoping for one that was closer to the original (albeit modernized). This version seems entirely different.
I didn't know that the Ghostwriter cast did live performances back then. That’s so cool! I’ve been looking online for some Ghostwriter merch to buy since I’m such a huge fan. I used to have a Ghostwriter book, but at the time I’d never seen the show so I’m pretty sure I donated it. Who would’ve thought I’d regret it years later?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think I’ll check out the first episode at least, just to say that I’ve seen it. I may even post a review. We’ll see.

What’s this? “Ghostwriter fan art”, you say? Why I suppose it is.
