wading through a lot of images .. I know I didn’t go to New York to be a street photographer, but I did look and soak a lot up..what a place to get inspired…I wish I could show the million more images I took in my head
back in Williamsburg , Brooklyn
I wasn't sure I would visit this site, but ground zero was certainly how you can only imagine this eerie tribute to be. .. hard to stand there and not try and imagine what a crazy day that was. I was with my friend Lori
I saw the famous Apollo theatre in Harlem, this street front is famous, but for the people here a lot of tradition is getting lost to the new shopfronts..Starbucks, H&M's and the like. Places like Sylvia Woods Restaurant is a landmark.. she is a legend of sorts, if you go to Harlem, go to Sylvias the story is more about a pioneering woman than a famous restaurant, I loved learning from my local guide, and meeting some locals in Harlem. Cool joint for sure
things you MUST do in New York City, wonder through Central Park, visit the Met , get inspired by the art and then head to the roof top for a drink. TICK, that was a good day
Back in the heart of the city. If you wanna see the sights, I am afraid you will be joined by hoards. Rockafellar centre has to be done. I even ate a bagel, it would have been rude not to. I didn't love the tourists, despite being one myself.. seriously lining up to get a photo of me with the statue of Liberty or whatever.. do I need to, but the view . big fat yes
things happen on the streets, random photo shoots EVERY day
at East River.. only a stones throw, well one subway stop to Manhattan.
Brooklyn, what can I say, I LOVED it. They say Williamsburg is the new place to come and unwind. "Manhattan is so uptight" these Wall street boys told me from my rooftop, here you can have fun. Noted it is cheaper and better for shopping in my books. PS THAT view
I have to admit, it took me a good few days to master the Subway ..and when I say master I mean work up the courage to head down that seemingly grimy little hole on the 'sidewalk' to the unknown.. turns out there was a lot happening down there. The Subway and me, friends now
a LONG subway trek from Williamsburg, my nicely hip little place I call home in Brooklyn across to Coney Island, lots of sun, sand and full on with American culture.. I kind of got a good dose of that on this hot windy day, a lot of realness about this place, maybe it had something to do with those neighbourhoods surrounding it. The Projects, a long way from Bergdorf Goodman
so eventually I realised I needed to only order the small meal.. or the 'appetiser' still loving the pickles on the side and my Brooklyn Lager
NYC tick …home time so excited to see my peeps its all I can think of now. I have the most grand adventure, I have squeezed a lot in, very tired and but figured I can sleep some other time, for now life has handed my such an amazing experience New York you were everything and MORE than I ever imagained. thank you #nosleep #windowseat #tinasnewyorkadventure at JFK airport and yes I'm buying Gin!
goodbye smalltown USA I loved #brattleboro #vermont fresh air country living good food but best of all good friends new and old see you on the other side sometime @jenmorris75 Heading back to Penn Station New York and spending some quality time (and serious shopping time) with my new Aussie friend Bron in Oradell New Jersey, a stones throw over the Hudson River from NYC.
such a breathtaking beautiful place and thinking so much of my beautiful family @eliza.may and everyone at home .. I am taking photographs into mind to bring home xxx love and see you soon
so I decided there was only but one thing left on my #thingstodo list my lovely US friend @jenmorris75 was slightly mortified but #Walmart we must do #America you are diverse and crazy in every way. The thing is it is so cheap to buy a weeks worth of sugary processed 'food' if you can call it that than fresh food, that and the problem with a health care system and welfare, that means homelessness is just a stones throw away for someone with no job, or a serious illness, the last few weeks I have enjoyed my NY adventure, but it hasn't gone unnoticed that we live in ONE LUCKY country
Defrag time
so a few days in the country for this country girl before I start the final trek home. Vermont , the green mountain state, no better place to unwind from the New York craziness, and for the first time since arriving in the states I am with folk who actually buy good food and cook it THEMSELVES, it is so soooo easy in New York to eat out, its also easy to eat good food, especially now the Eco/hipster scene is all so fashionable now. It is equally easy to eat badly, in fact I think the problem with obesity in the US can owe itself to the fact that processed sugary foods are cheaper than fresh foods, it is so cheap to get a big fat cheesy hamburger or hotdog with fries, than a salad? go crazy US, and I know we are not far behind you, but for now I'm in Vermont eating fresh garden veges hand picked by my new found friends, salmon and good wine. Oh the good life
