Hi, I'm thinking of learning Japanese (through the web, there's no classes or anything where I'm from...) and I was wondering how to start? I know I should memorize the kana and kanji, but after that, what do I do?

So sorry it has taken me this long to reply!

I would suggest, once you know kana and some kanji, to find short kids stories in japanese or maybe go on youtube and find some kids shows. Watch them and write down words you don't know. Look them up on a dictionary like tangorin.com. I find this is easiest for short kids stories. There are people on the internet (search maggie sensei) that make amazing content to help people trying to learn! It takes time and effort but it can be done! Don't give up learning!

how do u memorize kanji

Repetition is the key! Write them over and over, it sounds boring but it works. I make myself practice sheets. I make a blank space so i can fill in the kanji or reading.

can you help me pronounce vowels in Japanese? I'm really struggling with pronouncing the different vowels in Japanese class

Of course! Japanese vowels are very simple. In fact, if you have even taken spanish, they are the same. Unlike in English, they do not change pronounciation.So aIs pronounced 'ahh' like at the doctor's you open your mouth and say it eIs pronounced 'eh' like in 'Energy'i is pronounced 'ee' like in 'feet'OIs pronounced 'oh' like when you are surprised UIs pronounced 'oo' like when a ghost says 'boo'Hope this helped!!!

Sometimes your Japanese is not natural. when you say gakkou ni hajimatta, it is not sensible. the ni is wrong, sorry for my english

also in japan we normally do not put NO in between of 高校　And 三, because you are speaking in a friendly manner and not super polite, you can just say 高3！Or　高三、But normally with number, not 漢字。it is the same for all grades, like 中学三年生　イコール　中３　i hope to help! we also do not use (warau) （笑う） you never see this, we use W or 笑、Or　爆笑　For big laughter　(*'▽')

Intending to Do ～つもりだ

When explaining that you intend to do or not do something you can use...

~つもりだ　

Verb (present, short) +つもりだ

I intend to do...

Verb (negative, short) +つもりだ

I do not intent to do...

今宿題するつもりだ　I intend

If you need help conjugating the verbs into Negative or positive, short, I will be coming out with another post shortly!!!

You mean こんにちは？I'm guessing that's what you were going for... always be careful when using a keyboard that puts in the kanji for you. The problem may have come from the fact that the わ should be a は as it is a particle that makes a "wa" sound.
