I love to hc Caine as asexual. og I figured this would make Bluetooth impossible on his end but the finale changed that perception a little. Thoughts on that hc or ship or skip on Bluetooth?
I'm okay with Bluetooth, it's a cute ship, but I prefer Caine either crackshipped with AM or with the blue AI/Bubble.
I saw The Last Act in theaters with my mom, and the part where Ribbit mentioned that she was ex-Mormon was definitely a jumpscare for both of us.
I grew up Mormon, though my family left the church several years ago, and honestly it’s interesting to see Mormonism mentioned in a show at all.
It also made me feel more connected to Ribbit, and it makes her backstory feel much more vivid, even though she didn’t go into detail.
Literally every Mormon I know who's into TADC has talked about that scene, and every story has been some kind of heartbreaking. I would love to know more about Ribbit's life and what her real self is up to.
Before the TADC finale I don’t think a lot of people bought the transfem Jax headcanon, so they were angry that the show was (in their eyes) a man abusing all the women in his life and still getting to be the star of the show with the most character depth. Which would be kind of a valid criticism if Jax really were a cis man all along but it’s very much complicated by the reality that she’s a trans woman. Yes she sucks and yes she got most of the screentime but it’s not as simple as “shitty man overshadows women”
Honestly, I really appreciated the Kaufmo scenes for this reason. For me, they kind of sold the fact that Jax's abusiveness wasn't just aimed at women and wasn't purely misogynistic in nature. That was part of it, but he seemed pretty eager to bully anyone who would take it.
Can I talk about how much I love gangles story? She's my favourite character and I think she got such a beautiful character arc throughout the show and I don't think people realised.
I loved her spot light episode and i loved how if you look you can notice her slowly wearing her happy mask less and less as the episodes go on. This culminates in a wonderful pay off when her mask breaks in the gun fight, only to reveal an even bigger smile underneath.
She has a beautiful relationship with zooble and I love her returning the favour by trying to make zooble feel better and loved
Also love she was allowed to have complicated feelings on jax's abstraction
People say the other characters weren't developed enough and I agree for zoobke and maybe ragatha (although i adore her and cried at her scebe with kinger) but I think gangle was done really well and has a satisfying end to her arc
Oh, absolutely. Gangle benefited so much from getting her own episode in the limelight, and is a kind of a testament to why Ragatha and Zooble needed one too. I love that she starts out this little punching bag for Jax, but goes on to become the most complex circus member apart from him.
It was wonderful to watch her character grow, and to watch her fall in love.
Jax is the worst fucking character in the entire history of fiction and the most insulting trans rep in animation history. Fuck that fucking rabbit and shkler shitty sociopath racist creator.
A very weird form of critique I've seen manifesting around TADC is in the form of:
"The Among Us show with ten 13 minute episode has more character development!"
Uh, no shade to the Among Us show, it's quite good but...most of the characters in it are very one note. Well written! But one note. The most successful arcs are the result of being based on incredibly classic movies. (specifically Twelve Angry Men)
Pretty much every character is (intentionally imo) a classic archetype that you see all over. Green is the starry eyed young intern being taken advantage of by the Mira corporation. Red is the eager idiot captain who can't do anything on their own. Purple is the jaded security guard with a history with other crewmates. Lime is the kooky conspiracy theorist who was right all along. Cyan is the free spirited hippie who is paired with their angry atheist ""friend"" in the form of Black. Yellow and Brown are the union reps who are two halves of one soul (and the most interesting in my opinion). Orange is the HR rep who is obviously just there to keep Mira from losing money. Blue is quite literally just Dr McDreamy.
They all feel "better written" because they were pretty much all established the second they stepped on screen. Most of the growth is with Red and Purple, but even that is a very safe, predictable arc.
Like I said, well done but very very predictable and expected. They dropped all their episodes at one time, so no one formed theories or predictions to be disappointed by.
Whereas TADC are meant to feel far more like living breathing people. The show directly pokes fun at this through the lens of Jax. He whines about everyone being stereotypes while being completely incorrect about it the entire time.
Like... people can think what they want. I'm not going to say they're inherently wrong, but this doesn't feel like an opinion people actually have. But rather people that like to shit on popular media (especially after it just ended) and are parroting a comment that made them laugh. (Like the SU hate train where you can tell they never actually watched the show.)
I don't like to come right out and say "TADC is too intelligent for a good chunk of its audience here in the year 2026," but...yeah, that's kind of the case.

Jax is an antagonistic character, he's explicitly a bully, a blackmailer, someone that has played a part in causing 2 of his friends to abstract, a bit of a perv too if you consider that mind-vision of him inviting Gangle over. He choked out Pomni in Ep 9.
He's supposed to be Goose if Goose chose different, pretty much like an Evil Goose.
If she's transfem, she's now a transfem bully, blackmailer, perv, and someone that caused 2 of her friends to feel lonely that eventually led them to abstract and someone that choked Pomni violently. NONE of the actions go away because of the transfemininity. What happened to "your past explains your actions, doesn't justify them"?
You can like her as a character, I'm all for loving the problematic evil ones, trust me. You can ship her with whomever. You can feel bad and empathise. But you can't police how other fans feel, especially other bullying victims who relate to, say, Gangle or Zooble or even Ribbit (which I do). They WILL hate Jax. They have 100% rights to.
There's also people going "Jax pushing Ragatha into the deep fryer is a gag, you guys won't survive Tom and Jerry" like the point of the show isn't that even in the digital world, these actions hurt. That has been established several times. You can't minimise her actions either.
No, it's not "you guys just hate mentally ill characters, Jax just has BPD" either. I have BPD. I know it makes me a lonely person that's hard to love and the friendships I've lost haunt me so deeply. It doesn't take away that mental illness can be really difficult sometimes, it is ugly and it is cruel to others and so often parents with mental illness ruin their children, anorexic friends cause their friends to starve. Mental illness never justifies your bullshit, there's still accountability to take if you act like an asshole. You can feel bad for Jax but you cannot brush all the actions away witu "uwu BPD" and "you're ableist".
I've disliked Jax since Ep 4 or 5, before trans!Jax was even a popular fan concept. I never hated her, made hate posts and threads, but I was never a fan purely cause Jax was all my school bullies, the ones that acted like they knew better than me, the ones that forced me into COCSA, the ones that mocked my autism, all of them rolled into one. They're calling me transmisogynistic for that now.
This fucking fandom, man. Trans women can do no wrong, all hail Caitlin Jenner and Ava Kris Tyson purely cause they're trans women and that means they're 100% angels and pure beings. What do I know, I'm just a theyfab bitch anti with AFAB privilege.

As a trans person, one of the worst things the queer community does (and the worst things we do to ourselves) is acting like trans people, whether they're real or not, can do no wrong instead of treating them like human beings. Sometimes this also overlaps with holding them to impossible standards where they're either perfect angels or the spawn of the devil instead of actual people.
Jax is a severely broken, lonely, traumatized character with profound gender issues, but they also have a deeply cruel side that they chose to lean into, and this caused two of their friends to abstract. Goose didn't make such a complex character so that people could harass strangers over different readings.

Me & my friends are set on never talking about Jax publicly (online) because we all prefer versions that aren't trans woman. One likes trans man, one likes transfem genderfluid, one likes temporarily trans woman as a step to agender. We just don't want to deal with people who treat tags they don't like as hunting grounds. "Treat tags they don't like as hunting grounds" is a sadly spot on description. Fictional characters are just that, imaginary, and we take what we need from them, and that's a good thing. As far as I'm concerned, all Jaxes are good Jaxes!

I love everything about this! It's a living testament to the fact that Jax is capable of loving something and keeping it.
I really loved the finale. I am 100% with you that it and the show weren't perfect but it was something so special and human that you just don't care.
I'm happy Caine got redeemed and I love the thought of him slowly making ammends by spending time with the humans.
Jax and his abstraction was fascinating. My personal favorite part was seeing how the others handled it. I like that Gangle had complicated feelings about it.
I loved Pomni ultimately being the glue that holds the circus crew together.
It's just AUGHH so many feelings!
It was such a gorgeous, human ending, and I think that's more than enough to butter over any hiccups with the pacing!
NGL I'm mega mad Ragatha wasn't blind in one eye when the IRL designs were revealed.
Either that or I missed it and I'm the blind one. (I literally wasn't wearing my glasses so I might as well have been.)
I mean, it's not impossible that she is and it just isn't super visible!
In regard to the end credits:
Ragatha just needs to work up the courage to ask to join in. Once it's a menage a trois it will inexorably expand to Pomi, Kinger, and Caine from there.

I know people were really holding out for their real forms, but in all honesty, I kind of wish they didn't show them. This isn't a selfish "argghh this invalidates my headcanons " thing because I never really had any headcanons in that regard. I just really like when things are left ambiguous in stories, I always think it's a cool artistic choice. It's the same reason I like that Judge Dredd never takes his helmet off.
Honestly, agreed. I like their canon real forms and I never had any headcanons as far as what they looked like (except for Zooble, I liked Ashley Nichols' Zooble headcanon), but I enjoy ambiguity in stories.
I know Jax’s canonical surname is Mateo, which is commonly an Italian or Spanish surname (in place of the Anglican Matthew), so Jax may be Latina (despite the IRL actor being Asian/Turkish)? And speaking from experience, most Latin households do have a higher emphasis on gender roles. So if Jax did come from a Latin household, it would make sense as to why she put so much emphasis on her perceived masculinity.
But that’s just me projecting. And also thank goodness we have a Latine character who doesn’t speak in gratuitous Spanish every other sentence or has an exaggerated accent. My Spanish is barely passing (not even close to conversational) and I have no such accent being born and raised in the continental US.
A Latin character that isn't throwing out random Spanish or constantly being followed by a Spanish guitar? It's more likely than you think!
