Finals week! We’re 1 month apart from finishing the semester, so now all the teachers filled us with final exams, presentations and essays😭😭

I took a bit of the little free time I have to study attic ancient greek; I stopped studying it when I started uni so now I’m retaking it from the beginning, but these weeks I’m going to be so busy that the time to keep up some hobbies will be limited at least until the semester ends

History and Theory of Literature class! This time, in the greek literature section, we got to read all of Sappho’s poems, and our homework was to write poetry inspired by her style! It’s been a couple of years since I don’t write poetry so it ended up being not the best in the world, but it was truly a delightful thing to be able to read and study her beautiful work.

Thales of Miletus / Tales de Mileto from 「Historia de la filosofía」, Dario Antisieri & Giovanni Reale (2010)

After the whole trip through Vernant’s book, we finally got to read about ancient greek philosophers individually and get to know each philosopher’s unique ideas! This book was 100% delightful to read; the information is simple but precise, and each section also has primary sources which make the reading pretty interesting. Definitely a lovely thing to read after such an exhausting reading.

Plato, in several passages, cites the attraction of Socrates towards young males with beautiful physical appearance and intellectually gifted (cf. Charmides 155c-e, Symposium216d, First Alcibiades 103a-104d, Gorgias 481d). That attraction is frequently expressed in erotic terms; but there's no reasons to doubt from Plato's explicit testimony that that socratic eros wasn't a homosexual physical experience behavior, like the way of the so-called "doric love".

Los orígenes del pensamiento griego / The Origins of Greek Thought, Jean-Pierre Vernant (1965)

Probably the hardest book I’ve had to read at uni so far for the Ancient Philosophy History course, and casually the first book I read at my major! The book is so complicated to comprehend that I remember most of the class didn’t get anything of it and just waited for the teacher to explaim it, and my dyslexia didn’t help with it at all. We read the book until the chapter 8, but my notes could only go to chapter 4 without my brain going💥💥

Este fue el primer libro que tuve que leer en la universidad, y hasta ahora, el libro más difícil de entender que leí en toda la materia. Recuerdo que en toda mi clase colectivamente no entendíamos nada y teníamos que esperar a que el docente nos explicara todo el libro, porque de otra manera no había modo de sacar apuntes decentes. Mis apuntes son básicamente yo anotando en un cuaderno frases sueltas que parecen importantes y juntándolas todas para sacar algo. Los apuntes nos dieron una buena base general de todo el contexto histórico para empezar la materia, pero pienso que me hubiera gustado más ahorrarme el dolor de cabeza de tener que releerlo para entender lo que sea que haya dicho

My name is Zan! I’ve been looking forward to creating this blog after a long time of surfing through the beautiful, aesthetic studyblr community and the chaotic yet wise classics community. Here’s a little introduction to get to know whatever kind of blog this is going to be🤙🏻

Some things about me:

I’m 19 and currently in the first semester of university

My first language is spanish. For that reason, most of my notes are going to be in spanish, but I tend to study and post a bunch of stuff in english as well

I’m majoring in Philosophy and Letters. The plan is basically a mix of philosophy, classic studies and literature

I’m a hellenic polytheist, which is part of the root of my love towards studying about ancient Greece, part of the reason of why I’m a classics geek and the reason of why I chose to major in something that includes classical studies

I’m azurian, my pronouns are he/him and fox/foxs🕺🏻

I’m dyslexic and probably also have ADHD

I often participate in activism for LGBT+ rights and neurodiversity rights, so my blog might have some activism sprinkled here and there

I’ve been studying japanese for 6 years, but I don’t consider myself fluent enough to say I speak it

I’m a K-Pop stan, but this blog isn’t  about that

My goal with this blog isn’t exactly to be focused on making this a studyblr, but rather a studyblr/classics blog where I can keep track of my studies and also take note of the little silly things I learn or the chaotic things thar go through my head from time to time. As I’m not really the type to know how to make beautiful handwritten journals or take aesthetic pictures, I’ll mostly post my digital notes and quotes from books that I find useful for this career.

Some of my favorite blogs are @thoodleoo, @patroclusmyson, @achillesreborn, @classics-cassandra and @dreamhydrangea​, one of my best friends who gave me the hype to start a blog. I’m sorry for tagging if that bothers you 💧 💧
