“Sometimes you are going to miss a person who was an almost to you. And feel sad because there is no name for that feeling. You just feel it in a way that makes you tired to your very bones.”
— Nikita Gill, Almost Feelings (via books-n-quotes)
“You promise to stay in touch with people, but it doesn’t work out. It never does. And you forget about what the friendship used to be like, why you liked that person. And I hated it.”
— Morgan Matson, Since You’ve Been Gone (via books-n-quotes)
“Why does one begin to write? Because she feels misunderstood, I guess. Because it never comes out clearly enough when she tries to speak. Because she wants to rephrase the world, to take it in and give it back again differently, so that everything is used and nothing is lost. Because it’s something to do to pass the time until she is old enough to experience the things she writes about.”
— Nicole Krauss, The History of Love (via books-n-quotes)
“Words, I think, are such unpredictable creatures. No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be more powerful than a sentence. Swords may cut and kill, but words will stab and stay, burying themselves in our bones to become corpses we carry into the future, all the time digging and failing to rip their skeletons from our flesh.”
— Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me (via books-n-quotes)
“Life is what we make of it. Travel is the traveler. What we see isn’t what we see but what we are.”
— Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet (via books-n-quotes)
“Why are old lovers able to become friends? Two reasons. They never truly loved each other, or they love each other still.”
— Whitney Otto, How to Make an American Quilt (via books-n-quotes)
all women are conditioned from birth to prioritize relationships with men and to view an eventual pair-bond with a man as their Prime Goal.
we are taught that sex & companionship with men is the end-all-be-all of our existence. we are brainwashed into the idea that a woman is less-than if she does not exist within a romantic relationship. heteropatriachy depends on women buying completely into this idea.
your decision/choice to prioritize het romance above all else is not one made neutrally in a vacuum. radical feminism asks you confront this harsh, difficult reality. the personal is political; you cannot achieve liberation for women while continuing to engage in the most basic patriarchal institution.
Why is this kind of shit just showing up over and over on my dash
Yes, shit that calls women to remain celibate and lonely their entire lives
The fact that so many het women think single women are FOREVER LONELY and depressed and/or orgasmless and apparently they’re never going out or having any other social connections or family or friends is a) ridiculous b) proof of how male partners isolate women and make it harder to leave them or connect with other women c) fucking ridiculous in this implication that all separatists and/or lesbians are never lonely or alone.
First of all, I never said ONE THING about lesbians. I am not a lesbian, so I thought best not to even address this topic. Especially because I am, in fact, aware that lesbian loneliness exists.
Okay, so lemme tell you one thing: I am a het (possibly bi) woman and I am lonely and I believe that having a partner would make me less lonely. I have also been single all my life, so I can pretty much tell you that all those "wonderful connections with other women" are simply not popping around for every one of us.
I do (or, rather, did, before I moved) have connections with friends and family. And guess what? They are not enough. As I said in a previous post, humans are social creatures and mostly (asexuals aside) looking for another person to mate with. You can't mate with your friends and family. As you age, other people around you tend to partner up as well and make their own families their priority, instead of friends - let alone making new ones. Or most of them already have closs friends, and the energy and time invested in making a new friendship is simply not required to keep an old one. As for family, you can move away from family, and then what? All of a sudden you have absutely no ties to anyone. And then being the Forever Single Friend gets old really, really fucking fast. Not because a romantic relationship makes up for all those lost ties (regarding the isolating aspect of your post), but because all of a sudden you have no other connections to mask the fact that you are alone (romantically speaking) and have always been.
I speak from personal experience on all of this. And since this planet has some 6 billion people, half of them women who are in their majority heterosexual, I highly doubt I am the only one feeling like this. Thus, I would like you not to dismiss my experience, thank you.
Tbh the fucking Portuguse shoulda left the natives here alone
breaking news … the color of the year, once again, is pink
Second controversial opinion of 2019: we need to fucking outlaw surrogacy in ALL FUCKING COUNTRIES and I don't give a FUCK if you're NPH level of nice, you're still not entitled to a woman's uterus
Apparently my first controversial opinion of 2019 will be that I do not believe in asking het women to remain single for their entire lives in order to avoid being closely related to men.
This is gon be one fucking long ass year

For context: In that production of King Lear by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Sir Ian McKellen, playing the titular character in a scene where Lear has essentially gone round the bend, strips completely naked right there on stage. New York critic Michael Portantiere, noted in his review, “Special note for those who care about such things: In a brief nude scene, McKellen amply demonstrates the truth of Lear’s statement that he is ‘every inch a king’.”
Every middle age straight women: men are terrible! My husband? Can’t even pair socks! Useless and lazy! You don’t need a man in your life! Mine can’t even remember my birthday after 74 years of marriage! Don’t think he’s picked our son up once! So selish! You wouldn’t attend my cousin’s funeral because he was watching the game!pretty sure he’s cheating on me! Men are all the same. Who needs them.
