Making a pinned post. Hi. I’m Joe, I use she/her mostly, but any pronouns are fine. Sex-repulsed asexual, nsfw stuff makes me a bit uncomfy. 

My main blog is Chromatophorium, so if you see me reply with that name, that’s me. I’m prone to spelling errors, but I might not catch all of them. Not a native english speaker, but mostly fluent.

....oh. like all my seathrillchase hub people are devastated/very impacted by capitalism.

Like. It was an accidental theme born of probably my own and my peers existence in this system, as well as being a thing to keep/do a twist on/go into more detail on from the source material Splatoon. But now that I realized the unconscious theming I put there it's going to become a thing I'm more conscious of and do more deliberate comentary on with the story thing...

Definitely with stock racings history of increasing commercialism too. Yeah.... hm.

I'll expand on this later, after my bigger post about the lore for people.

Okay. "Devastated" is honestly a extreme word-use there. But well, compared to the other business owners hat we see in Splatoon (who to my knowledge*) show no sign of financial struggle or having to make significant compromises to keep doing what they want to do with their life, the people of the Seathrillchase hub are a huge contrast.

(*Murch is kinda the only one I think might be kinda like this... Idk if Spike counts? Maybe.)

Anyway. I'll definitely still be keeping the impact of capitalism that more in mind here. While Ink battles & surrounding hubs show a pretty frictionless interaction between people and capitalism, there is definitely friction in Seathrillchase hub. (Whatever the hub is called. Idk yet.) And community in spite of it.

I did get a real spec of inspiration for Mia and Tia's designs so I did sketch that. I'll see if I show a finalized design some day.

thinking about the street-legal 1979 shyster cremlin/1981 buick regal that humanized chick hicks owns 🤔

he kept most of the original interior intact but he did retrofit an infotainment system/touchscreen thingy into the dashboard. a blend of classic & modern, very cars 3 chick hicks-coded

to switch things up, his car ISN'T completely covered in stickers and decals. it's cool to have a million stickers on your racecar since you're being paid to do that, but it's cringe and trashy to have it on your normal car (that's like his internal logic)

there *are* still a lot of bumper stickers and decals on the car but most of them are on the back

and, of course, the car is the exact same shade of green as his racecar

i always do go back and forth on questioning whether the piston cup actually mandates the use of restrictor plates. i know people tend to use them as an explanation for mcqueen's speed boost in cars 2 compared to cars 1 but at the same time it feels like it renders a lot of the plot points in cars 3 null. jackson storm is superior tech so ofc he'd be faster but if piston cup racers use restrictor plates and the cap is roughly 190 mph like real-life nascar then does that or does that not suggest he's not using plates?

Only Mater left, and I know he's going to be a frogfish, since those have lures AND they're awesome and goofy and walk instead of swim and also definitely come in the style of brown, rough and bumpy. Going to be nice and entertaining looking at all these frogfish in the coming days

chick hicks's response to negative situations is fleeing!!!! if it's fight or flight, he's picking flight!!!!

when he won the piston cup and the audience was booing him and throwing stuff at him, he yelled at everyone, grabbed his trophy, then retreated backstage

when he lost to mcqueen in the chick's challenge event from the cars 1 game, he muttered a threat to mcqueen then drove off

when he lost to mcqueen in the chick hicks showdown event from cars: race-o-rama, he swore revenge then sped away!!!!

even in mater saves christmas, when mater & mcqueen came back from the north pole to stop chick, he literally TOOK FLIGHT and left the tuners to deal with the shit he roped them into!!!!

his instinct is to run!! the few times he *does* fight, it's a deliberate decision!! it doesn't change the fact that his first instinct is to RUN!!!!

interestingly enough though, in the DMK cars event, when chick loses to mcqueen after hyping himself up so much, chick doesn't flee or fight.... he shuts down and freezes.... 🤔

The design of the double decker busses are cool. The one in the drawing in the credits was extra fun because it looked they like a monocle on.

And I gotta say I enjoyed the McQueen Queen and McMissile wordplay joke. Nice. No harm in it.

The wordplay I didn't enjoy was the whole misunderstanding bit of "i'm the bomb" "you're the bomb" and other things. I would probably have liked it if there wasn't all this actual tension going on. Just doesn't mesh well...
