“Okay,” Savannah sighed, admitting defeat. “I won’t put it back in right away.” Reaching up to touch her nose piercing, she ran her finger along the swelling. She didn’t ever want her nose to look like this again, so if she had to leave it out for a little while to get rid of the infection, she’d do it. “I, uh… I don’t remember the name of the place,” Savannah shrugged, hoping they could just leave it at that.

     As a small smile perches itself on her lips at the victory, glad that it’s another point for parents everywhere. ❛❛ Well later, maybe we can have a drive and you can point out out to me then.  ❜❜ There’s no way that whichever one of her friends will be getting off lightly; then however would they learn? ❛❛ Why didn’t you just come to us, Savannah? Ask us if you could have got it pierced? ❜❜ At the end of the day, it was only a piercing, but it was more the principle than anything else. ❛❛ I personally think you’d look pretty badass with a nose stud. But since you decided to get an infected one, I think it’ll just have to wait until you’re thirty.❜❜

Part of Savannah knew that she shouldn’t push her luck. She’d gone behind her parents’ backs, pierced her nose, and still, her mom didn’t seem to be too upset. But the other part of her, the part that always seemed to win, couldn’t just leave it at that. She’d endured a lot of pain to get this nose piercing, and she didn’t want to have gone through all that for nothing. “But… but that’s not fair,” Savannah protested, arms crossed tightly across her chest. “If you’re not gonna let me put it back in, I’m not taking it out. I’ll just go somewhere and get it cleaned by someone else tomorrow.”

     At least the girl was honest, for that Lexie had to give her props. The miniature strop that her youngest daughter was conducting forced eyes to widen -- had she just stepped into an alternate reality, in which Savannah was five again? ❛❛ If you put it in, the infection will only come back. You have to leave it for a while. Until it’s definitely gone. ❜❜ Moments like this, Lexie wished she had boys; Mark did always want sons. She was grateful for her daughter,s, thanking God for them everyday, but boys were rumored to be a little less drama. Right now? She would have been grateful for that. ❛❛ Where did you get this done, Savannah? ❜❜ It was a question that only crossed her mind now; it had to have been an idiot friend, surely.

Georgia sighed softly shrugging her shoulders, as far as she knew all of the victims of the shooting had been forced to see one of the hospital therapists, even being the daughter of a Nureo Goddess and a Trauma God didn’t get her out of that one. But seeing a therapist and engaging with one were two completely different things, she only went because it was mandatory and when she did she just sat there and let his words go in one ear and out the other, it wasn’t like he expected her to talk anyway. Georgia did her best to keep her expression unfazed, she didn’t want to do anything that would compel Lexie to share what she’d seen with anyone else, so the more she downplayed the whole thing the better chance she supposed she had. There was no doubt she appreciated Lexie’s offer  but vulnerability was just something she couldn’t afford right now, and even she did want to talk there was not a way she really felt comfortable in doing so. ASL was good but she preferred saying nothing, time would pass and eventually everyone would forget and she could pretend she was okay and no one would question it.

     There was nothing that Lexie quite knew how to say; what did you say to a girl who was quite clearly traumatised far beyond belief? What on earth was she supposed to do about the drawings, on the other hand? It was wrong, almost, for her to just keep this to herself but there wasn’t much choice that she had. ❛❛ How are you finding your stay here? ❜❜ All she wants is to distract from their current topic, find something that wasn’t filled with animosity and hatred and darkness. ❛❛ Is there anything I can get you? Extra Jell-O? ❜❜ Nurses were lovely, but given her lack of communication, she highly doubted that there was anything they were doing that was truly superb. ❛❛ Magazines or anything? I’m sure Brooklyn has some reading material or something that I can bring you. ❜❜ There were handfuls of questions in Lexie’s head, if Georgia did need anything. What type of magazines did she prefer? Did she even like Jell-O? She didn’t know her all too well, and right now the woman felt slightly guilty for that fact.

Pete smiles over at her and then thought for a moment. He knew that Amelia was working on Neuro here. “Amelia and Derek. I can only imagine what it is like specializing in the same area as them. Although I can see why they are the best.” He told her. “She operated on me once.”

     Eyebrows raise unexpectedly; she was half-certain that everybody who had even stepped foot in Seattle Grace Mercy Death had been subjected to some sort of surgical nightmare. ❛❛ Well, I’m glad that you’re okay now. ❜❜ There’s a small nod, accompanied with a smile; life was precious, and every moment had to be cherished. You never knew what you might miss.

He was clearly getting back to his usual self. Before the surgery, he was down quite a lot but now, he was the old Derek Shepherd everyone knew. He looked at Lexie. “Well, sometimes I do, but not all the time.” He told her. “I promise I won’t say a word if you let me watch.”

      ❛❛ Sometimes? ❜❜ That, Lexie simply couldn’t believe. When Miranda Bailey gave you that look, you ran. Many times she had saw it work on Doctor Webber; a man who was ranked far higher on the food chain, even now. ❛❛ Then I’ll be glad to see you in my gallery, Doctor Shepherd. ❜❜

“You haven’t seen me boss people around? Remind me to do that to you when I am back at work.” He told her. He smiled at her. He glanced around. “I hope it is soon.” He said. “I need a view that isn’t a hospital room.”

     ❛❛ That was me making a joke, Derek. Please don’t boss me around. ❜❜ There’s slight panic in her voice at the prospect of her brother-in-law using his seniority over her. ❛❛ Need to see the ferryboats? ❜❜ The view wasn’t all too bad in the hospital, but there were certainly better ones to be had.

Allison had her textbook out, trying to finish her essay so that she didn’t have that anxiety on her shoulders anymore. But when her mother sat down across from her she closed her laptop and textbook, pushing them off to the side and grabbing a pen. “Absolutely. If I get to spend time with you. of course.”

      It was only after her ungracious flop next to her daughter that Lexie realized her daughter was heavily preoccupied with another matter. ❛❛ Oh no, I was only kidding sweetie. Though I’m glad you’re so willing to help your mother with unethcical and illegal practice. ❜❜ It was good information to hold on your children; told you which one to look out for.

Savannah sighed. She didn’t love the idea of having to endure even more pain than she already had in the past few days, but she nodded at her mother in agreement. After all, if she could handle her friend sticking a safety pin through her nose, surely she could handle the piercing being cleaned. “I can put the stud back in when you’re done cleaning it though, right? I won’t have to wait too long? ‘Cause I don’t want the hole to close up.” 

     ❛❛ Oh, there’s no way you’re putting that back in. ❜❜ It wasn’t that she was against body modification; it was Savannah’s body, she could do whatever she liked. Issue arose when it was done in secret; especially in an unsanitary environment. ❛❛ I’m going to get the first aid-kit, and you’re going to take that damn thing out. ❜❜

Savannah thought about refusing to move her hand, but she knew it wouldn’t do any good. Whether it happened right then, an hour from now, or even the next day, her mom would see her nose. There was no way around it. So, reluctantly, Savannah lowered her hand from her face, hoping her mom wouldn’t be too upset to see her infected nose piercing.

     As hands move away, Lexie is somewhat amazed at the sight before her. There’s no point in being angry at her daughter -- what could she do now? ❛❛ It’s infected. You need to take it out. ❜❜ Mistakes were expected, in the younger years, but she never thought that they would be something like this. ❛❛ I’ll need to clean it, and it’ll sting. ❜❜ To the last part of her sentence, she’s sympathetic; no parent wants to hurt their child.

“Oh, no. Definitely not her. I don’t even know anyone by that name, actually,” Savannah shrugged, tightening her grip on her nose.

     ❛❛ Want to move your hand for me there Savannah? It’s almost like you’re hiding something. ❜❜ She had hoped these days were over, hoped that times of rebellion had passed. Yet the current situation seemed to beg to differ, forcing an almost condescending tone to her voice.

“Look–I know I’m smart mouthed sometimes, but I do it when I feel like someone’s coming at me and they don’t need to be doing so. Thing is I get why you’re upset right now, and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it the way it came across, but at the same time I think it’s a good thing for a man to be proud of the woman or women he loves. Maybe the situation isn’t the easiest to understand but I love your daughter. With every fiber of my being.” Jeremy hope being genuine was enough to smooth things over. It wasn’t his intention to be a dick, it just happened a lot. “Let me buy you a coffee or something, and I just wanna talk to you for a minute. If you have time of course.” 

     Her eyes focus on him as he talks, and she doesn’t know what to say. He reminds her heavily of Mark, exactly how he was when they first met. It’s obvious he’s an Avery though; there’s a pride in his voice that she’s certain she’d recognize from anywhere. ❛❛ Listen, you’re young. And love.. it’s a strong word. ❜❜ Four letters that should never have been thrown around lightly, but Lexie knew for a fact that at his age, she changed her mind constantly, love was but a mere confusion for lust. ❛❛ You don’t have to buy me a coffee, Jeremy. But you’re more than welcome to talk. ❜❜ Replacing the seat where his friends were, she doesn’t quite know what to expect. At this point, he could tell her anything.

“Apparently that comes with age.” Bailey pursed his lips into a faux pout, recalling the information his Uncle Owen shared with him earlier regrading the same subject. “You’re Bailey-Proof,” It was something he had made up on the spot and sounded good enough for him to continue. “Life is exceptionally cruel.”  The smile growing on his lips challenged said words. His eyebrows were raised as he listened to her final declaration. “Oh, I do. Twisting words around to work in my favor is only one of my many specialties. Just not with you, it seems.” 

     A small smile rests on her lips; at least someone in the world wasn’t all doom and gloom. ❛❛ Bailey-proof? What does that entail, exactly? ❜❜ Lexie questions, feeling curious as to how deep he was willing for this theory to go. It wouldn’t have surprised her if he had previously thought the entire thing out, had his explanation down to a T. ❛❛ You know, I truly don’t think that is a completely admirable trait to admit to. ❜❜ Her mind wanders; was this a trait he’d been perfecting over years, perhaps? Maybe he was some sort of criminal mastermind, an undercover cop that had been hiding in plain site for so many years. It’s only when she snaps back to reality that Lexie realizes she needs to lay off of the daytime television; clearly it was running away with her somewhat.

Meredith scowled, her hazel hues shifting to display to Lexie her heartfelt annoyance. “Are you saying I couldn’t pull off bangs?” she demanded of her sister, turning her head finally to face Lexie’s almost smiling face. “Need I remind you of the dedicated years of bang-bearing that I underwent. I think I looked pretty great.” It was Meredith’s turn to lose the battle against laughter, a chuckle curving her lips and softening her eyes. “You make a fair point,” she conceded, raising her hands again anyways to keep fiddling with her hair. “Hello Kitty’s Japanese?” Meredith asked after a moment, her voice mumbly when she focused on her vanity project. 

     ❛❛ I’m not saying you can’t pull of bangs, Mere, I’m saying that I have already commandeered bangs. Bangs and bottle blonde. You can have a pixie cuts and bright red! ❜❜ There were photos from Meredith’s bang era, and Lexie had to admit; she was somewhat of a fan. It made her sister look less scary, more like she could conquer the world she was about to set sail in to. ❛❛ You’re a surgeon, with children, and you don’t know that Hello Kitty is Japanese? ❜❜ Confusion paints the younger girl’s face; how was it possible to not know such a basic trivia fact? ❛❛ I think you should take it off; Hello Kitty doesn’t demand respect. Unless you’ve decided to switch from general to Peds; in which case, go for it!❜❜

Pete listened to her. “I have to agree with you there. It is kind of cleansing.” He said. He started to help her with the paperwork. Hearing her, he smiled. “I will come and find you.” He said. “So…neuro?”

     ❛❛ That’s exactly what I was thinking! ❜❜ For a split-second, the idea of Pete being a mind reader pops inside of her head. It’s a split-second later that all she can seem to think of is sex, and the fact that if he was a mind-reader, she certainly shouldn’t be thinking of sex. ❛❛ I promise I’ll try not to give you food poisoning. ❜❜ She smiles, a small nod following his question. ❛❛ Yep! With my brother-in-law and my sister’s sister-in-law. It’s a total family affair. ❜❜

Derek listened to her. “Do I look as if I would listen to her?” He asked. He laughed a little when she said about no back seat operating. “Would I do such a thing? What makes you think I would do that?” Derek asked Lexie as he looked at the work.

     Lexie raises her brows; she was certain that everybody listened to Bailey; she had received a.. less than gracious nickname for a reason. ❛❛ Truthfully? I think you’re crazy if you don’t. ❜❜ Today it seemed he was full of surprises, as a small laugh emits from the younger surgeon. ❛❛ Because you’re Derek Shepherd. ❜❜
