Danial knew it was cliche, but he felt the need to do a double take. Lexie Summers was just about the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. Right away Danial fell for her warm smile. âThatâs too bad. You should enter a singing competition. That voice isâŠsomething,â Danial hoped he wasnât coming off too strong as he came to meet her in the center of the room, holding out a hand for her to shake. He was used to speaking his mind with great candor and had trouble holding things back. âThe pleasure is all mine Mrs. Summers. Addison and I would love a tour!â He followed Lexie to the back of the classroom. âWoah you get a cubby Ads?! Nice shirt little man, I love spiderman too,â He high-fived the boy before straightening up, only to find Addison staring up at Lexie with awe and a pang of guilt hit his stomach with a resounding thump. Danial had always felt like he was somehow responsible for the lack of a woman figure in Addisonsâs life. She needed a mom, but Danial wasnât ready to settle down again. The death of his wife five years previous still sent a wrack of pain throughout his body. The thought of betraying her with someone else was unimaginable. âIt even has your name on it! How cool is that?â Danial headed towards them, almost tripping on one childâs lunchbox. âOnce a klutz, always a klutz,â Danial apologized, smiling softly.
Lexie had never been so flattered by a compliment from a parent before but she found herself at a loss for words. She hoped dearly that she didnât look like a complete fool when she finally came to her senses and laughed, not unkindly at him. âMaybe one of these days I will. Thank you,â she murmured sincerely, strangely undone by his compliment. He was a parent, she wasnât allowed to be flustered around him nor was she allowed to find him blindingly stunning with the brightest smile sheâd ever seen. That would be unethical. If anyone else know about it. After pulling her hand away from hers, stupidly wishing he hadnât let go, she started off towards the back of the room where each student had their own cubby for their things. His banter with one of her students had her heart doing a flutter that she wished it wouldnât and instead she dropped down to focus on Addisonâs space. âSee? You can paint it and decorate it all youâd like and your symbol is a tulip, so when I draw names from a hat to see who wins a prize sometimes, youâre the tulip,â she explained before leaning in. âTulips are my favorite flower,â she whispered, winking at her. The moment Danial tripped, Lexie was on her feet, stepping towards him and placing a hand on his arm to steady him out of reflex. âAre you alright, Mr. Mian?â she asked, though it didnât go unnoticed that her hand didnât move from his arm.
