McKenzie let out a soft breath through her nose, her fingers curling instinctively around Lexi’s hand when it found hers. The warmth grounded her, even as her gaze drifted around the apartment again, sunlight pooling across the hardwood floors, the way the space felt quieter than the others they'd already looked at. She hesitated, as she often did when decisions tried to pin her down. Her lips pressed together briefly before she glanced back at Lexi, a faint, almost sheepish smile forming. “Hey,” she murmured, giving her hand a small squeeze, tone gentle but edged with thought. “My taste is evolving, thank you very much.” There was a pause, just long enough to show she was actually considering it this time. Her eyes flicked toward the hallway, then back to Lexi. “I think,” she started, then stopped, exhaling a quiet laugh at herself. “God, why is this so hard?” McKenzie shifted her weight, shoulders relaxing as she leaned a little closer, lowering her voice like it made the admission easier. “I keep trying to picture us here. Not just visiting, like, actually living.” Her thumb brushed absentmindedly over Lexi’s knuckles. “Waking up, arguing over coffee, you leaving your stuff everywhere,” she added, a teasing note slipping in. A small tilt of her head, a quiet half smile. “This might actually be the one.”
apartment hunting was hard, not that she knew it firsthand, but she was definitely starting to hate it. lexi, though, still felt over the moon, moving in with mckenzie was the dream, she couldn’t wait to come home to her every day without worrying about goodbyes, it would be their place. "thank god it’s evolving," she chuckled, giving her hand a small squeeze, clearly teasing, "it started when you chose me, that’s when your taste improved," she winked. as mckenzie described picturing them there, waking up, coffee, mornings together, lexi huffed lightly. "hey, i don’t leave my stuff everywhere," she protested, glancing at her girlfriend. but the moment mckenzie decided, lexi’s smile lit up her whole face. she stepped in and wrapped her arms around her, excitement spilling over. "then this is the one," she said, kissing her quickly before pulling back just enough to look at her. "we’re moving in together… can you believe it?"
