Family activities in Salcombe and the South Hams

Fancy a stay in this authentic Austrian chalet? It’s right in the heart of the Lungau Biosphere region just south of Salzburg and run by British girl Jodi Venner. The Independent on Sunday took a visit and loved it! Have a read of the full article here: http://bit.ly/StMartinChalets
if you’re heading to South Devon then you musn’t miss a stop at Salcombe and the surrounds. Why? well have a read of this and you’ll soon see!
"Imagine a summer of swimming in secret coves, canoe camping and star-gazing, with time to discover lost ruins and explore ancient forests."
YES PLEASE!! This book really is stunning and a definite buy for anyone looking to experience the wilder side of the South Devon Coast (and beyond). We - of course!! - love pages 156-163 where you'll read all about the offshore Arched stack of Thurleston Rock, spectacular and wild walks out to Bolt Head and canoeing up the Salcombe - Kingsbridge estuary.
Just so happens that the sun is shining as we write this and, if we're not mistaken, a slight whiff of summer is in the air. Bring it all on we say...

THROUGH A GOOGLE GLASS, BRIGHTLY Courtesy of Alastair McKenzie, co-founder http://travelllll.com
The video above is Google's, which nicely showcases the impressive features of Google Glass, but it wasn't until I had a read of Alastair McKenzie's latest travelllll.com post (here) that I really got my head around the phenomenal opportunities that Google's latest tech development holds for travel businesses of all kinds, not just travel writers & bloggers.
It made me think how I could (and will, once it's released in the UK) harness 'Glass' for Salcombe as a town and its surrounding coastal paths, walkways and estuary experiences:
Imagine experiencing the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary through the eyes (literally!) of South Devon AONB Estuaries Officer Nigel Mortimer. All the rare wildlife (including seahorses) through to the unique Ria (drowned river valley) habitat.
Or a food blogger documenting their ferry ride from Salcombe's small estuary harbour over to the Millbrook Inn for a hearty lunch crafted using South Devon produce
Or a guided coastal walk integrated with Google Trekker (why not dream big hey?!?) technology to bring the coastal paths and landscapes alive for any armchair traveller.
If only 'Glass' were waterproof too (come on google...pull your finger out!) then a couple of hours Stand Up Paddleboarding would be in order. Or, thinking about it, I would probably just opt for some high speed RIB coasteering (no, not the boring walk-to-the-cliffs-then-jump-off kind but get-in-the-RIB-and-power-out-to-hidden-and-inaccessible-parts-of-the-coastline kind).
I can easily see what documenting such raw and interactive video, photo and voice experiences could do for any destination.
It would be hard for any armchair traveller researching their next trip to ignore no?! Well I'll let you know how I get on once 'Glass' graces our shores...
Here's the link again: THROUGH A GOOGLE GLASS, BRIGHTLY
It'll only take a few minutes to watch then read, but for me it's already been more than worth it.
Enjoy, courtesy of http://travelllll.com and Alastair McKenzie.
Wild swim anyone? Go on. it's not freezing. Much...
Check out this article by TNT Magazine here.
At least a hearty South Devon meal and pint or local ale, not to mention a treatment or two at the Thurlestone Hotel will help warm your cockles...literally. So, even if freezing seas aren't your thing, if you fancy a trip 'down south' to Salcombe and Thurlestone plan your visit by visiting www.salcombeinformation.co.uk or calling 01548 843927. We're biased but they are definitely the finest areas of coastal Devon!
