Mauterndorf Castle
Mauterndorf Castle is located in the municipality of Mauterndorf in Salzburg, Austria. The fortified castle was built upon a hilltop in the 13thcentury on what was likely an old Roman fort from 326 AD. The castle was purposely located at an 11thcentury toll station to protect the market town, and once served as a summer residence for the archbishops of Salzburg. During the 15thcentury, Mauterndorf Castle was expanded by two of the archbishops. By 1806, the castle was owned by the cathedral chapter and served as an administrative center, but the castle was eventually given to the state. The castle was purchased and restored in 1894 by a Prussian military doctor, but it was sold and exchanged hands several times. The government of the province of Salzburg acquired the castle in 1968 and renovations took place between 1979-1982. The castle serves as a cultural center and boasts the Lungauer Landschaftsmuseum, a restaurant, a weapons room, a 44-meter tower, the portal sundial, a knight’s playground for children, and beautiful mountain views. The museum has wax figures of medieval travelers who speak of the guests they witnessed throughout the day when night falls. There’s also a costume room visitors can use to dress in medieval attire and take photos.

'Conversation Pieces' to imagine and debate the future of Lungau.
Conversation Pieces @ Supergau
After an open call early 2022, I was invited by artistic director Tina Heine to work on 'Conversation Pieces'. A site-specific concept for the Supergau Festival 2023 in Lungau Austria. With this artistic intervention I focused on the 'rural flight' (called 'landflucht') where young people exchange the countryside for the city. This beautiful region has a rich cultural past, but what about its future? 'Conversation Pieces' offered a valuable opportunity to imagine and discuss the future. I am proud to share with you the video documentation on You Tube!
