The weather was getting colder- not cold enough to bundle up, but there was a noticeable difference from day to evening. Zay hadn’t even thought about the winter months last time he had gone shopping, but he pulled out his standard denim jacket. A bit worn from previous years, but he figured he would be able to take it off once he got to Leyla’s. The last few times they had been together, she’d been more than enough to keep him warm.
He tried to do a quick brush up after he rang the doorbell, running his hands through his hair quickly, fingers brushing against the faint facial hair that had been growing. Should I shave? His girlfriend had answered the door and he smiled wide. She’s so pretty. Zay had heart eyes, taking her all in before he answered, “Hey…,” babe? Sweetheart? What were the rules for pet names? “You!” He was going to have to work on that. Stepping inside, he gave her a tight hug and a quick peck on the cheek to make up for his weird hello. Dodger was sniffing him, all around his ankles while Zay took off his jacket. “Here, sniff this,” he offered the dog, who seemed to take it as a toy. “You’re silly, aren’t you? We’ll go out later,” he promised. What was more romantic than taking a walk with his girlfriend and her dog? “So, you did all this Ley?” Isaiah walked over to her and slid an arm around her waist, looking at how clean all the dishware was, and just how intimate she had managed to make it feel. “What’s on tonight’s menu?”
.
Leyla’s eyebrow rose, almost of it’s own accord at his greeting. ‘Hey you?’ Even with the slight confusion that came from the greeting, she couldn’t help but smile, Zay could bring a smile to her face no matter what he was saying if she was being honest. The sound of his voice alone had her beaming when they were talking on the phone. She leaned into his side with a smile as she looked over the table. She’d wanted it to be perfect and she felt like she’d gotten it as close as she could, she’d even lit some candles and had lowered the dinning room lights. She placed a kiss on his check before pulling away at his question.
“If you’ll do me the honors of following me to the kitchen I’ll tell you!” She’d spent so many hours finding just the right vegetables and just the right meat that she wanted to stuff them with. Instead of just one kind she’d gotten; Eggplant, pepper and zucchini and had even thrown in a few vine leaves. “You’ve got a choice of stuffed vegetables. I made a few of each and there’s a few different meat options. We’ve got lamb, pork and burger.” Leyla’s family... or at least her parents did not practice any religion, but it had still be hard to find pork back home. The few times they’d had it was only because they lived in Izmir and you could get imported pork there. “I think the pork ones are the best, but maybe I’m biased.” Leyla looked up to meet Zay’s eyes, a blush along her cheeks as she looked between him and the food. “Is this okay?”
