Occupy.
Bungkalan is a method of farming where farm chores are collectively done by the community-- with each member contributing based on his capacity and availability. From merely feeding the hungry stomachs of the farmers and their families, bungkalan has become a potent strategy of farmers in Hacienda Luisita to assert their rights and occupy the contested land.
Bungkalan had been active in studying and in trying out various farming models to improve and develop production through collective ownership and cooperative farming. It not only strengthens the ties of the families and individuals involved in bungkalan, it also legitimizes the right of the farmers to own the land they till.
