his tone sounded almost mysterious, and hyuk wanted to keep things that way for a moment, as he took a sip of his beverage and then started their movie.

he knew what he had heard was all corridor gossip, and it was for that exact reason he didn’t pay more attention to it. but as things rolled, his curiosity got the best of him, poked him in the wrong way, and he wanted - or needed - to know.

hyuk knew he would be acting out of pettiness and that it could ruin their nice friendship, plus it wouldn’t change the course of things or how they were in the present, but he just needed to know; it didn’t matter.

she's used to a lot of things from hyuk. after all, they went to friends, to dating, to exes, and then, back to friends. it had been everything in between. but when she hears him, she can't help but tilt her head, slowly looking over in a bit of curiosity at him. he sounded a bit different than before-- something laced that she couldn't explain, and so, she nods. "yeah... sure. what's up?"

she wasn't sure where this was going. maybe he wanted some advice, or perhaps he just needed to talk about some things and get them off his chest. either way, she'd find a way to listen. but the question-- about parker makes her blink.

"... yeah." she starts, pressing her lips together. "... why?"

"That's actually a sweet idea..." Minseo beams at her, mentally noting it for herself as well. She could see it being a great gift for her friends whenever their birthdays rolled around for the rest of the year. It was beginning to be harder to not only enjoy, but appreciate the smaller things in life, and whatever brought her joy. "Should we head to the bathroom? The lighting is actually kind of nice?" She utters with a soft laugh, knowing the change of location for a picture seemed rather silly, but in a way there were less eyes on them as well. Sometimes, the personal photoshoot could be longer than necessary, but what was the girl to do? A picture or in the dozens was absolutely fine to capture the memory.

mimi found herself smiling, genuinely, and she realized if this was what debuting was going to feel like, she was probably going to get even more impatient. august couldn't come fast enough. "do you have a big family?" she questions, truly curious about it all. at the option of going to the bathroom, she nods, sitting up straighter. "that's perfect. bathrooms always have the most perfect lighting anyway." she says with a chuckle before she's moving to head that way. "I think it's over here? maybe?" she looks with a hum. "if not it'd be good to look around anyway." she hadn't gotten a big chance to explore, and it'd be nice to see what a big set looked like.

”this is true, but hopefully we don’t spend all of our savings at this place. we still have to get lunch, remember?” the idol says with a laugh before trying her hand at the games.

despite her inability to get one prize from the claw machine, miyu still finds herself having a good time. anything’s possible with good company, and mimi tends to be good company. the frustration from continuously losing finally gets to her though, and she steps away from the claw machine filled with small sanrio keychains and looks over to see how her companion’s fairing.

“yes please,” she looks over at the other girl with pleading eyes. “i have’t won a single thing yet, what’s your trick?” she’s determined to come back with at least something. her goal was to come back with a little prize for each of the nova members, but she’s not sure if that’s possible anymore.

"oh that's true we do have to be mindful. but lets try to win at least once, and i can give it to you!" mimi knew she was a bit competitive in that regard too, and if she was left to her own devices, she would have spent several minutes just making sure a machine didn't beat her. of course, it was just a game, but the game shouldn't beat her, now should it! "what do you want to get for lunch?" mimi can't help but ask, chuckling some as she moves to try for the first time. of course, that's a lost, and so are the next few. but eventually, she's scoring a cute stuffy, offering a tiny cheer as it plops and she's receiving her prize, offering it to miyu with a bright. "well... the trick is to never give up, really. but maybe i just say that because i really love the stuffies. here, you can have this one!"

mimi felt like she was still getting her feet under her. now that she was finally debuting, it felt like things were moving so fast-- she had expected a lot, of course, but it still really took her by surprise. and now, with this opportunity, she was still reeling from the fact she was chosen at all. it would help to get her face out there, she knew, but she somehow wondered if she was good enough. dark eyes are looking over, and she's listening, offering a nod of agreement. she wants to read between the lines, but she refrains instead.

"ah really? i should start to journal again, i haven't done it since i was little." she admits, a chuckle leaving her. "i'm buying a couple, too! one for my mom and sister, as well." she offers with a nod, before her eyes light up at the offer. "oh that sounds like a perfect idea!"

“Ah right? It’s been a while since I’ve given them a treat.” She lets the thought linger, already imagining her mom’s and sisters faces when they realize she had brought them something. It wasn’t much, but it was to know she was thinking of them… and she always was. soon, they wouldn’t have to want or worry for anything, and that was a big part of what kept her going. she loved to perform too, of course, but she felt partially responsible in making sure they stayed afloat.

“please emi”, hyuk rolled his eyes, as if her words were so absurd, he couldn’t keep up with them - maybe he was right, because they were exactly that, outrageous. “i do know you, i’ve dated for like...you know, some time!”, truth is hyuk didn’t remember exactly when their friendship lines blurred to dating and then went back to friendship, but it was enough for him to know some of her traits, for them to have a good relationship, even after they distanced from each other naturally.

reaching a common place, like picking a comedy movie, hyuk felt more comfortable. with all halloween parties and friends always shoving horror stuff around and in front of him, he was a little used to that, but if he could pick something else, he would, in a heartbeat. “how about this freakier friday? someone was talking about it during practice the other day”, he took a sip of his milkshake, finding the movie, as he turned to emi, “this way we can talk as we watch it, no pressure to pay that much attention to the movie.”

she tries not to let the smirk get the best of her. she swears she's seen that eye roll more than she can count especially when they were together. not that she can blame him really-- if the roles were reversed, she thinks the same thing would have been her response-- and maybe, just maybe that had been their downfall. could she really say it was a fall though? they were friends, still, and really, she trusted him with anything, even her life.

She did have an issue befriending people far too quickly, and it was probably better playing it cool. "...an honor, really, since Lim Sanghyun is from our company."

"I think I'm the target audience for the journals so there is that..." She confesses through a soft laugh, pulling out her phone from her back pocket. "I'm definitely buying the two when the journals come out. Speaking of journaling... Should we take a picture to document your first shoot?! I have a Polaroid printer that I can use and add it in one of the pages like a scrapbook page."

miyu estimates roughly 50-75% of her life is recorded and broadcasted to nova’s fans. despite this, the constant lack of privacy is still a hard pill for the girl to swallow. she’s always on high alert, especially when there’s cameras around. her life sometimes feels manufactured in a way, inauthentic.

even though nova has quite the busy schedule she’s given a day off, but it’s a day off with a catch. anything she does that day will be filmed for novascope, so miyu has to watch what she says and does closely and act natural despite the vlogging camera two steps behind her.

she invited mimi for a day out, excited to spend some time with her friend despite the lack of privacy. “oh! there it is,” miyu says pointing up to the neon sign above the shop. “i’m sure i’ll spend too much money here trying to get a prize. that’s how they get you though.” she laughs. “are you good any at claw machines?”

there's a brightness to her eyes and she is looking at miyu with genuine affection, but she also understands the name of the game. even though she hasn't technically debuted, yet, she was close, and knew this was just a part of it-- being off, not really off, and making sure that you were ... comfortable, not too relaxed. and this was a good chance to hang with her friend as well as practice to make sure she was... a bit more correct than normal. after all... it would be her new normal in a way.

When the opportunity was presented, Minseo had not only been pleasantly surprised, but beyond grateful to have been included in quite the sentimental project. It was mind-boggling to be tapped as a model for Timebox considering the Lim Sanghyun could ask pretty much anyone, especially more experience people in their field. She had been looking forward to shooting the CF in between her crazy schedule. She would get to hang out with Emi, which was the cherry on top, considering she had wanted to get to know her properly.

Her eyes widen with excitement when she hears Emi's voice, refraining from touching the extensions out of curiosity. "It suits you so well? I swear you have one of those faces that can suit all different styles..." She acknowledges her observation with a slight nod, smile properly forming on her lips and remaining throughout their interaction. "It's fun to shoot in an actual location rather than a production set. I can actually visualize it better. I don't know how actors do it regularly because sometimes I even get lost with the green screen when we're shooting music videos."

emi didn't find herself shy very often, but it seemed so genuine that she was taken by surprise. maybe because it was the compliment about her face that has her face turning a faint shade of pink, deeper than the blush she was currently sporting and she playfully rolls her eyes at the other. minseo was gorgeous-- and talented, too. emi finally really felt like she was on the inside instead of looking in, and she had to admit-- it felt good as hell. "aish don't give me a big head!" she says with a laugh. "you look so pretty," she trails off. "I can't can't believe i got picked for this, but with you it makes sense." she nods. "it feels so real. kind of feeling like an actress as of late." she says with a chuckle. "is this your first kind of shoot? its mine."

emi is still buzzing, and she has been since she arrived onto the shoot for the day. this was only day one, but she thinks she hasn't stopped smiling so far--- not even when she was in hair and make up and they definitely needed to touch up her lips once or twice. but it was an excellent opportunity and really it just seemed like things were just going on the up and up for her-- nothing could bring her down.

she wasn't alone either, and she liked the fact they had really different concepts. by the time they are out of hair and make up, she's checking herself in the mirror. the artists had put dark burgundy extensions in her hair that she was really starting to enjoy, and she's slipping off her seat, finish her tea as she walks up to minseo with a smile. "ah you look so pretty. it's sort of like yin and yang, right?" she offers.

“as if you didn’t like old men”, hyuk stuck out his tongue in a teasing way and laughed, as he sat beside emi, getting comfortable when he took off his shoes and crossed his legs, butterfly style.

it was nice to get comfortable with someone he was familiar with, even if things looked a little rough between them, at least that was hyuk’s perspective. he wanted to ask her about a few things, but wasn’t sure if that would be a good moment, maybe later, or if things took a different route than two exes hanging out.

“you must really hate me if you wanna pick the horror movie or drama”, he sighed, making a disgusted face. “you know i hate those, but go ahead, you’ll probably hear me screaming. please. no videos. i have a reputation to keep.” he snickered.

"aishhhh you think you know me, eh?" she's offering, a brow raise following as she tries to sound snarky, but it doesn't quite land that way-- she's in too good of a mood and besides, it felt nice to be so-- light. it had been a while. all work and no play made emi a very dull girl, and really... well. there was something familiar in hyuk. sometimes that was what she needed.

she slips off her shoes as well, offering a hand through her blonde strands, moving to look over him with a smirk as she offers a wink after that, too. "i'm kidding." she retorts, sticking her tongue out, before she's humming in thought. "let's what something funny. you can pick. i'm in a good mood, so you can have the privilege."

sometimes, when he's in workshops or other large settings like this with the rest of the trainees, he can't help but feel like a camp counselor of some sorts–surrounded by kids he feels both responsible for and yet strangely motivated to relate to. case in point: nathan quirking his eyebrow at her rather-teasing tone as he slowly catches on that she's been, well, fucking with him, and he's been acting too serious in response to play it off now.

it's an interesting kind of paradox, one that he doesn't necessarily want to dwell too much one lest he start questioning both the ethics and the economics of allowing such a diversified age range train and eventually debut together. so instead, he shakes his head, briefly resting his hands on his hips to catch his breath after a few more practice runs. "i'm twenty-four… or is it twenty-three, technically, since we're in korea?"

in all seriousness(perhaps more than she ever has been), there was a lot to learn-- not only from the dancing, of course, though that was a whole different thing in itself. but really, she was learning a lot from the reincarnated idol himself. there was a reason he had debuted in the first place, and which so much on the line(including the potential at finally debuting), maybe... well. maybe she should be a bit more serious after all.

after today, anyway.

they finally break apart, and she takes the brief opportunity to wipe the sweat off of her brow and catch her breath. the problem with dance genres is that even if they appeared easy-- she could feel each muscle in her damn body; tensed, making sure nothing was out of place. but she's distracted by his answer, tilting her head. "ah, really? i didn't realize we were so close."

emi could hear the buzzing in her ears, mimicking her heartbeat. after all the hard work, after all the worrying about what she could possibly be doing wrong-- it felt like it was all coming true. the possibility to actually debut, to actually be an idol and not a trainee. maybe being good and not going out every chance she got was starting to pay off.

she tries to play it cool, nodding, grateful, but as soon as she can, she can feel the tears burning the back of her eyes. lili too was close, and it seemed fitting that she was doing it was someone she'd call a friend. she's dragged to a practice room and she thinks her cheeks hurt from grinning so much. "it feels like forever!" she admits, and as she tries to calm down, she nodding. "i can't believe this. we're actually doing it. can you believe just a few weeks ago we were wondering?!" emi says, and she bites at her lip, nodding once more. "we've gotta put in a lot of work."

lili’s nodding so much that she fears she’s become a bobblehead. she wants to cry, she wants to laugh, she wants to scream — she is beside herself, unable to contain herself from all the feelings beginning to well up inside of her. it’s been so long since she’s felt a sense of relief — like she was on the right path, that she was doing something right.

she would say she didn't believe in the whole manifestation thing-- for a lot of her life, she had tried to manifest money in her mother's bank account so they didn't have to struggle, only for the cycle to repeat itself. that her sister wouldn't feel so bad about all her achievements to no avail. but... it a way it was true-- they had been talking about this, truly, not too long ago. a constant of wonder of when, and even if-- and then, now-- they were there. she can feel her body buzzing practically, and she hums, biting her bottom lip hard to prevent the squeal that wants to escape.

plus, she wasn't alone. she had seen so many trainees come and go, but this time, lili was going to be right by her side. there was a part of her that hoped they'd be staying together. but... one step at a time.

she laughs a bit, nodding in agreement. "i know, i know but we don't have long to go before the concert anyway. you know they're watching us even more now."

how will this concert experience shape your next steps or projects?

mimi tried to contain her excitement on everything, but considering what she knew now, it was hard. she felt like her skin was buzzing. “i hope it prepared me for all the steps that i need to take ahead to really make sure i work hard and debut hopefully soon in the future. i want to prove i’m all rounded and ready for whatever it throws at me, including dancing all kinds of styles and being a perfect collaborator, and i think being apart of the concert allowed me to do that and show a different side that probably hasn’t been seen with me before.” (81)

looking back, what did you learn about your own dancing or stage presence?

“ah, that sometimes, less is definitely more. i think i’m used to always being pretty flashy and in your face— that’s just the style i’ve developed, but sometimes you can be really subtle and make a really big impact. it’s not necessarily about being the one with the biggest moves but how you affect the audience really matters, and connecting with a partner can make or break a really good performance.” (71)

how did you feel preparing for this concert? were there any moments that surprised you about yourself?

“i really don’t like struggling, even know i know that’s a part of the process and that you can’t be completely perfect the first time you do something new, but it was still really frustrating. i also realized i tend to try to solve a lot of the issues by myself. i know i had a team with me, and they were so willing and wanting to help. it’s nice to know i can lean on others, and i have to allow myself to.” (84)

how did working with your teammates or mentor influence your growth?

“it was really fun and interesting to work people i haven’t worked with and also have before to create a really cool and unique story. i think the team all had something individual to bring that was unique and fresh and when it was all said and done, make something that was unforgettable. pulling all those pieces, relying on each other was really sort of life-changing.” (66)

she should probably be a bit more nervous. after all, april was just around the corner. it wasn't like there was a lot of time to prepare for a whole concert, but she couldn't lie-- she could feel her skin buzzing, the excitement of doing something new, of performing, of having that one step be a bit closer to debut. before, she knew she had been on thin ice-- treading carefully. it wasn't like she hadn't been serious before about being a performer and an idol, but something about the last year seemed to lock it all in. time was ticking. she was watching her friends go from trainees to debut, and soon, she was the only one left her in her dorm. she couldn't even count the times she had spent talking to lili, confessing about how she thought maybe debuting, maybe this dream she had been chasing for so long just wasn't something meant to be hers.

but then she traveled, she went around the world, performing, getting a taste of what it could be. it ignited something in her, and when she returned, there was nothing in the world that could stop her-- and that was saying something, because for once, she turned down invitations to hongdae in honor of staying in the practice rooms and getting proper amounts of sleep. now, with this on the horizon, too, she could feel it, she could practically taste it. if for anything, she couldn't let all her hard work go to waste-- even if that hard work had been a little late coming.

“i feel very old now, since i had no idea they had one of these here.” hyuk said ashe closed the private cabin’s door behind him, holding a tray with popcorn, a bottle of soju, a large cup of strawberry milkshake, and rice cakes. in front of him, emi was comfortably sitting in one of the couches, waiting for him.

when she told him there was this place in hongdae that the owners turned their karaoke boxes into private movie theaters, hyuk thought that would be a great place to visit and to have some rest. it surprised him when she hinted she could show him the place - as long as he paid for everything (as if he would let a girl pay for it, please).
