2 years had passed already since she last stepped her way into the spotlight. To re-center, grow up, figure why the hell she was still doing all this. Perhaps she had stepped back just right before the finish line but with her final exam looming above, jaekyung felt nothing but accomplishment.

Re-centered, educated and actually feeling capable, she was also ready to reconnect to people she had unintentionally shoved aside. Connections lost to every day life and busy schedules weren't hard to rekindle when there was never ill intend to begin with.

So finding herself in the same vicinity as miyu was a choice, not a coincidence and spending time with someone she shared so many experiences with was nice- almost nostalgic. "so how has life been?" it's an easy opener, her eyes friendly and interested as she stirs the ice cubes in her iced latte.

there was a lot to be admired in jaekyung. her work ethic, her capability and her skills. miyu wished that she also took time away from the company to finish her degree, but the circumstances didn’t allow for it. nova’s intense schedules have always made it hard for miyu to continue and keep relationships with her friends, something that she regrets. now that the other was slowly working her way back towards the limelight and away from academia, the dancer thought that it was probably a good time to catch up.

”that’s a loaded question, isn’t it?” she asks back, laughing. “life’s been good and bad, but i feel like that’s a very generic answer. overall life has been . . . strange.” miyu finally settles on her answer. “i feel like my life is mostly centered around nova, which has been good. we’re doing well as a group.”

“what about you? i feel like your life is more interesting than mine.”

”i still dance in my free time,” she confesses. “there’s not much of a chance for me to do ballet on stage, you know? as much as i wish.” miyu laughs. “so i tend to do that in my free time so i don’t get rusty. i also like to work on my own choreography as well, but it’s definitely gone from a hobby to more of a job. it’s good that we like our jobs, though. isn’t it?” she tits her head. “i know a lot of people are dissatisfied with their lives, and while being an idol isn’t easy i can truly say i enjoy most of my day to day when i’m not feeling exhausted.”

“but other hobbies, hm.” she pauses, thinking about what she does when she gets home from a schedule. “i like to read, go on walks, does working out count?” miyu asks. “i’ve been into pilates recently, but i think everyone’s caught on to that,” she says with a laugh. “journaling is also nice, especially when i have some pent up frustration.”

at his next point, miyu’s face visibly falls. she frowns before taking a sip of her tea. “it’s hard, definitely. when i was a trainee, it seemed as if people were dropping like flies. when i debuted, i thought our group was strong, but there are always circumstances. it’s a curse too, isn’t it?” she laughs.

“i try to at least get a couple of hours,” she tells him, moving along. “it’s hard, though. we’re all sleep deprived.”

"Oh, that's right. Ballet isn't a dance style they incorporate into the industry." If at all. He might have seen one or two 'cameos' where they used a ballet move in for a split second, to showcase the idol's style, but it wasn't actually embedded into the choreography. "Maybe if you get an opportunity on a variety show. That would be a nice chance to showcase your ballet. If you get a chance to choreograph a full piece or a major portion of Nova's next routine, maybe you could slip that in there." He hums at the mention of it turning into a job. That was always a worry for him too. He'd seen his own sibling burn out at it, and he didn't want to go down the same path.

"I love how all the hobbies are so active. As if we aren't active enough. But it's good to maintain. I'm tempted to state 'laying around' as a hobby if ever asked, but it's not the best answer, I know." He pushes back his hair behind his ear, tapping on the table again in thought. "Better to journal than to scream outwardly at the wrong individual. I bet that could get anyone in hot water. A scandal." He'd seen something in the news recently about an idol from another company who got benched on hiatus and sometimes Danny wondered if they'd ever come back from the halt. And with what fans?

"Ah yea, I think I've heard and seen some of the numbers dropping and growing. But Nova seems to be remain strong. I hope you guys are doing well. Touring and performing is the livelihood of any group. Even if it feels like being overworked. Well. So much talk about all the hard work that is done. Do you ever treat yourself to anything? There must be some light at the end of the tunnel, Miyu."

”i have been able to show my skills off here and there.” she remembers the times on various variety shoes being asked to demonstrate specific moves or showcase her flexibility. “one of my biggest wishes is to choreograph for nova but the opportunity hasn’t come up yet.” miyu frowns, taking a sip of her tea trying to hide it. it’s been one of her biggest dreams and she’s sure it’ll be realized eventually. waiting is the hard part, though.

“laying down or sleeping always gets a laugh or two when mentioned as a hobby,” she says, adding on a laugh of her own. “it’s difficult finding something that the public won’t crucify you for but also accurate enough to reflect your personality. you have to decide how much you want to show the world. but don’t worry, eventually you’ll get plenty of public relations training from legacy. make sure to pay attention in those classes.”

”oh! of course i treat myself. isn’t this a treat?” miyu asks, gesturing to their beverages. “i don’t know, i feel like i’m kind of a minimalist. my treats involve something like food or drinks or even experiences. if i treat myself to objects, it tends to be something i’ve thought long and hard about before deciding to buy it, especially if it’s expensive.”

“what about you? what do you like to treat yourself to?”

”this is true, but hopefully we don’t spend all of our savings at this place. we still have to get lunch, remember?” the idol says with a laugh before trying her hand at the games.

despite her inability to get one prize from the claw machine, miyu still finds herself having a good time. anything’s possible with good company, and mimi tends to be good company. the frustration from continuously losing finally gets to her though, and she steps away from the claw machine filled with small sanrio keychains and looks over to see how her companion’s fairing.

“yes please,” she looks over at the other girl with pleading eyes. “i have’t won a single thing yet, what’s your trick?” she’s determined to come back with at least something. her goal was to come back with a little prize for each of the nova members, but she’s not sure if that’s possible anymore.

"oh that's true we do have to be mindful. but lets try to win at least once, and i can give it to you!" mimi knew she was a bit competitive in that regard too, and if she was left to her own devices, she would have spent several minutes just making sure a machine didn't beat her. of course, it was just a game, but the game shouldn't beat her, now should it! "what do you want to get for lunch?" mimi can't help but ask, chuckling some as she moves to try for the first time. of course, that's a lost, and so are the next few. but eventually, she's scoring a cute stuffy, offering a tiny cheer as it plops and she's receiving her prize, offering it to miyu with a bright. "well... the trick is to never give up, really. but maybe i just say that because i really love the stuffies. here, you can have this one!"

she watches as emi proceeds to succeed where miyu herself failed. the dancer can’t help but to clap with joy as the stuffed toy falls down the shoot, excited that she finally has something to call her own. “thank you!” she grabs it gingerly from the others grasp as they hand it over. “now neither of us will go home empty handed.”

as the topic of lunch comes up, miyu looks thoughtful. “i think the arcade has some munchies.” her eyes trail over to another section of the establishment. “fried food, things like that. there are restaurants in the area, though.” she pulls out her phone and taps on the maps app searching ‘restaurants’ and seeing what comes up.

“is there any specific type of food you’re craving right now?”

when i saw the articles coming out that mitzi was at fashion week i was shocked, it was totally unexpected. then i saw the fan pictures and finally the getty images and i couldn't believe my eyes because of how pretty she is, but we all know how fansites love to edit photos these days . . . when the getty images came out, i held my breath because of the getty images curse but i couldn't believe my eyes — she survived and she looks absolutely STUNNING in all the photos. her aura is no joke. does this mean she'll be working with chloé soon?

being in creative control ( outside the dance studio, of course ) was not something that miyu was accustomed to. sure, nova got some say in things, especially as the group grew older, their debut getting further and further away in the rear-view mirror of life. it's a strange thing to think about, so the dancer doesn't dwell on it often, but she does recognize that with their growth as a group comes more and more opportunities and the ability to make their voices heard.

besides that, miyu's always been quite the minimalist as well, which makes this task doubly difficult. knowing that not all the fans are like her ( most kpop fans aren't minimalists in general ) she tries to view this opportunity through the lens of stella rather than her own.

"i think stickers would be a good starting point," she tells the creative team. "stella and nova both relate to astronomy, so i was thinking some star stickers would be a cute homage to the meaning of the group and the fandom's name. in blue, of course, but maybe the sticker sheets could also have some iridescent stickers as well, to break up the monotony?"

"i was also thinking maybe we could do a keychain? or maybe a phone strap? something that could clip to the bottom of the lightstick but the fans could use later in their daily life after the concert?" miyu lists off what she'd like to see in the keychain itself, the metal color and type of accents, sticking with the stellar theme. "i'd like to add two small tags at the very end, one inscribed with 'nova' and our logo then another one that says 'mitzi,' so that it can still be traced back to us."

"finally," she continues. "i think having a bow available for fans would be a nice touch. i've seen a lot of people decorate their lightstick this way and honestly it comes out looking very pretty."

miyu claps her hands as sena reveals what the two will be during for the remained of their livestream. she’s genuinely excited, even if her cake decorating skills aren’t considered the greatest. she’s an idol, not a baker. the dancer can barely consider herself even a cook.

“oh that’s a great idea,” she agrees with the younger girl. “i didn’t have many ideas yet, but let’s see what the comments say.” miyu leans in close to the tablet in front of them, trying to read the comments as they flash by. they’re going too quickly but she laughs reading one of them.

“someone said, ‘write happy anniversary nova,’ on the cakes. of course we’re going to do that,” miyu reassures the fan with a smile, but after thinking about it, was the comment sarcasm? it was hard to tell over text . . .

“i think i’ll start by writing all of our names around the border.” she grabs an icing pen and begins to write everyone’s name, making sure that she uses the right color for the right girl.

sena eyes the chat, trying her best to read each comment quickly, though it's difficult with how fast the chat is moving. "'are you using the representative colors?' we are!" she shows the chat all the member colors they have at their disposal.

"hm... i think on mine, i'll start with decorating the bottom." she takes a frosting tip and starts creating a border around the base of the cake, using some white frosting. "i'm thinking i should add something to this border though... maybe some sprinkles? we have these star-shaped sprinkles we can use." she holds them up to the camera, letting the viewers try to visualize the design a bit.

"ah, writing our names around the border is a good idea," she smiles to miyu, looking over at her cake. "i'm nervous for the writing part myself... my handwriting is good on paper, but i'm not sure about how it will look on frosting..." she decides to practice on a piece of parchment paper, carefully writing 'happy' in both cursive and print. the lines are a bit squiggly, but at least it's somewhat legible. "what do you think unnie, should i write in cursive or just regular print?"

“it’s hard to write with icing,” miyu says, struggling a bit herself. “i don’t think my penmanship turned out the greatest.” she winces looking at the way she had written the first name. she repositions herself a bit before tilting the cake so the camera could see, letting out a laugh as the comments come streaming in. some were saying it was decent, but she knew they were just lying.

she looks over at sena, eyes trailing down towards her practice piece of parchment. “hm.” she bites her lip. “if you write in cursive, at least if it comes out a bit lopsided, it’s meant to be that way, right?” miyu tilts her head, laughing.

she finishes writing all the girls’ names on the cake as carefully as she can. “i should use some sprinkles too.” her eyes look down at the different decorations they have in front of them. “or maybe some sparkles?” she grabs a plastic shaker container of edible glitter, holding it up to show the camera and seeing what the chat thinks before turning towards sena. “or do you think i should do this step last?”

“oh my god!” she exclaims. miyu’s eyes widen as danny almost topples over. “maybe they should bolt these chairs to the ground?” she jokes once danny looks like he’s settled again.

“i don’t think she wants to be an idol,” she replies after pondering his question. “she’s still young, still figuring herself out. though i suppose that conversation may be coming up soon. she’ll be graduating from high school next year.” miyu’s eyes focus downwards, settling on a spot of condensation on the table. because of her, mitsuki now has options. if her parents let one daughter follow her dreams, why shouldn’t the other? truthfully, the dancer’s not sure what her sister wants to be when she grows up. she wonders whether she just missed that conversation.

she turns back up to look at him, flashing a smile. “she’s been really into sports recently. mitsuki is a great swimmer, she’s been on the swim team for ages. i don’t think she’s going to the olympics any time soon,” miyu says with a laugh. “but maybe she’ll be able to get in to a good school with a scholarship that way. i think she’s always been more of a free spirit, less of a planner.”

”they’re crazy, yes, but i try to get as much sleep as i can during our down time. i manage the lack of sleep and long hours by keeping my free time relatively chill. i know some people have the energy to go out, but i’ve always been a homebody, even before debut.”

“i think future dreams was a wake-up call,” she tells danny earnestly. “i never thought i would actually debut as an idol and saw training as just another way to practice my dance and learn. i realized halfway through that this was serious and i needed to step up. after i was confirmed for debut especially, i realized that i needed to apply myself to more aspects than just dancing. there’s no easy way to say this,” she looks at him, seriously now. “but talent doesn’t just manifest itself overnight. i was in the same spot as you are, dancing felt comfortable, anything else and i felt like i was out of my league. kind of like i was an imposter. it wasn’t good for my confidence, though, and that’s half the job.”

“even if you’re nervous or scared, you can’t show it on stage. they’ll rip you apart for that,” miyu says with a sigh, knowing how critical netizens could be. “anyways, once i knew things were serious and people were counting on me, it’s like something switched on in my brain. i sought out more vocal training. it was hard and uncomfortable at first stepping outside of my comfort zone, but i promise it gets easier the longer you do it.” she gives him a soft smile. “i also did a lot of practice on my own time. gosh, i don’t know how i functioned that first year after debut. i don’t think i got any sleep,” she says with a laugh.

“anyways.” she reaches out, grabbing her cup and taking a hesitant sip. the tea had cooled down enough for her to drink, and miyu takes an even larger sip this time. “i said a lot of words but the simple answer to your question is just hard work, dedication, and little sleep.”

"I love that. Sports is a good thing too, with positive prospects for University options. And a healthy extracurricular if it does not turn into anything related to a career. There are some non-Olympian national teams too. I sound like a parent," his mouth downturns grumpily at the thought, physically shaking his head to get that out of his mind.

"So there are perks of introversion! I find myself to be a homebody too. That is probably why we get along," eyes smiling crescent moons at Miyu, he nods in agreement. "That among other reasons. So what kind of wind-down hobbies do you usually do back at the dorm? I guess the last thing after all that practice, you wouldn't be doing much dance in your downtime anymore. It's weird, how dance used to be the hobby and after it becomes the job..." He tilts his head and shrugs his shoulders at that. "It is what it is."

"Yes, I've managed to get most of the nerves and fear. I need to stay in a positive mindset and bubble so I am only keeping positivity and criticisms on my side. And cutting those out who are extremely negative. Not counting the management and staff, they're supposed to tell me where to improve on. It sucks though, I've had some really close friends leave recently as trainees and it makes you wonder, right?" Then again, it must be even crazier for Miyu's point of view- where some of her colleagues actually quit.

non-event solo : late night

there are pros and cons to not rooming with anyone. miyu misses the company, but it allows her to spend time whatever way she chooses, even in the middle of the night though idol schedules are crazy and it’s normal for them to be awake at 2AM, this particular night ( morning, technically ) there are a lot of thoughts that plague the dancer’s mind. after finishing her skincare and shower routine routine, which she’s noticed takes significantly longer these days because of all the makeup and products in her hair, the idol lays down in bed, wrapping herself up tightly in her blanket.

she tries to sleep because she has a busy day ahead ( but what days aren’t busy these days? ) but sleep evades her, the thoughts she’s tried to push down creeping back to the surface. miyu sighs, sitting up straight in bed and turning on the lamp next to her on the bedside table. she wipes her eyes trying to get rid of the blurriness, succeeding after a few swipes.

sitting there for a moment, she starts to get uncomfortable. she gets out of bed, shivering as she uncovers her legs. miyu slips her feet into her house shoes before standing up straight, doing a few stretches from side to side, letting out a soft sigh as the tightness from her back dissipates a bit. she stands still for a moment, debating what she wants to do. does she want sit at her desk and write in her journal? does she want to watch a movie to keep her thoughts at bay? does she want to stare at a blank wall, hoping that the nothingness will calm her nerves?

in the end miyu decides to take a trek outside her room, passing by the others as silently as possible. though she hasn’t decided what she wants to do, what she has decided is that a cup of sleepy time tea and a small sweet treat is necessary, despite the fact that this means she’ll have to brush her teeth again.

for miyu, livestreams are always a bit nerve wracking. there's no second chance, no way to take back something she's said. thankfully, she's never been scolded by her manager for something she's said, the worry mostly being in her head. she always feels better when she streams with another member. this time she's been paired with sena, and they have something special planned.

"oh! look what's here," she says turning to sena with a smile as shinhye walks in with both of their small cakes. it was planned in advance for the two of them to decorate small cakes for the livestream, celebrating nova's anniversary. the idol gets up and goes out of frame for a moment as she grabs the cakes from their manager, thanking her for bringing them in. she returns and sets them on the table ━ sena's in front of her and miyu's in front of where she was sitting. there's also a small bag full of decorating icing tubes in various colors.

"sena, i'm excited." she turns to sena with a smile. "are you ready to show everyone what we have?"

sena's not great at livestreams, and she knows it. she has a hard time getting over the idea that she's speaking to so many people, despite not being able to physically see them. while it's easier to have another member to talk to and interact with, it can still be awkward to manage her interactions in a way that is both pleasing to the audience and appropriate for an idol.

so, when the pair pitched their idea to shinhye, sena had a goal in mind; having something to talk about, but also something to focus on when the two weren't interacting with each other. having something to be busy doing could at least help fill the awkward moments with something logical.

with the cakes set in front of them, it was finally time to reveal the activity for the day. "surprise! to celebrate our anniversary, we're decorating these cakes!" she displays her plain cake towards the camera, showing that it has yet to be decorated. "hmm... how do you think we should decorate them? ooh, maybe the comments have some ideas?"

miyu estimates roughly 50-75% of her life is recorded and broadcasted to nova’s fans. despite this, the constant lack of privacy is still a hard pill for the girl to swallow. she’s always on high alert, especially when there’s cameras around. her life sometimes feels manufactured in a way, inauthentic.

even though nova has quite the busy schedule she’s given a day off, but it’s a day off with a catch. anything she does that day will be filmed for novascope, so miyu has to watch what she says and does closely and act natural despite the vlogging camera two steps behind her.

she invited mimi for a day out, excited to spend some time with her friend despite the lack of privacy. “oh! there it is,” miyu says pointing up to the neon sign above the shop. “i’m sure i’ll spend too much money here trying to get a prize. that’s how they get you though.” she laughs. “are you good any at claw machines?”

there's a brightness to her eyes and she is looking at miyu with genuine affection, but she also understands the name of the game. even though she hasn't technically debuted, yet, she was close, and knew this was just a part of it-- being off, not really off, and making sure that you were ... comfortable, not too relaxed. and this was a good chance to hang with her friend as well as practice to make sure she was... a bit more correct than normal. after all... it would be her new normal in a way.

i’ll preface this by saying i’m a big fan of nova. honestly, i probably wouldn’t have even known about this song if it weren’t for mitzi. i really liked the song in general, but there was something else i wanted to address . . . i know that visuals and dancers get a bad rap when it comes to their vocals, but isn’t it time we stop hating on hers? i saw some comments saying that she didn’t deserve the feature and it should have gone to someone more talented, but she’s never been bad? even on future dreams i think she was able to hold her own. there are plenty of idols out there that can’t sing, and you guys are hating on us for what? because she’s pretty and you’re jealous she can do both? anyways, all of this to say that i think mitzi was the PERFECT choice for this song.

[ + / - ] i agree that mitzi gets a lot of unnecessary hate. she’s pretty and can dance and sing well, isn’t that what being an idol is? what else do people want from her? [ + / - ] there’s no denying that this song is catchy and fun. it stuck in my head for days after i first heard it. hope zico and mitzi can perform it live one day. [ + / - ] i’ll never understand why people bother worrying about idols. she’ll be fine, she makes more money than you.
