Tekle is a deacon in Germany, but he was a soldier at home in Eritrea. He escaped from war at age 19, so over there he's considered a deserter. On his way to Europe he had to watch many gruesome things. He hopes to one day reunite with his wife and child. Painting Tekle was very tough, as his pain was clouding him. He is the kindest and modest person, I am very thankful he told me his story! These portraits are part of an exhibition commissioned by the Caritas. #eritrea #stopthewar #refugeeswelcome #ink #portrait #caritas #strongman (hier: Münster)

Delal made it from Syria to Germany with her 5 (!) kids. She told me that back home, she had to watch her house burn down. Delal is a teacher and full of optimism and energy. She's reunited with her husband by now. New week, new project, new show. This time it is a more emotional and upsetting project. I was part of interviews, were refugees were asked about their journeys to Germany. In the process we created a collection of very intimate portraits and personal stories. This is a collaboration with Caritas and Bistum Münster. The exhibition "Warendorfer Mitbürger" will be on display for a few months in several locations starting this week.
