Charlie stood in the middle of the pet store watching the guinea pigs as they ran around in their cage. They watched as an employee came to pick one up for a little girl and they let out a small laugh when the pig started the squeal a little when they got picked up. They glanced to the person standing next to them, “You know, I’ve never really thought about this, but being an animal must suck” they said as they glanced back at the small girl holding the pig. “Like we give them no choice and just pick them up whenever we want. Like with my two cats,” they said looking back to the person he was talking to, “I pick them up, love on them, and kiss them all the time. I never think about if they want me to do that because I’m sure they don’t” he rubbed the back of his neck, a little embarrassed by what they had just started going on about, “Sorry, I guess that was a little random huh? Seeing the guinea pig refusing to be held just made me think a little I guess”

“I mean, that’s fair, but most animals will also let you know if they don’t want to be loved on. My dog will practically attack me if he doesn’t want me to pick him up. They can communicate, it’s more on the human to listen, I guess.”

“I mean compared to other specialty coffee, it’s not horribly priced, but compared to basic coffee shops it’s pretty expensive. But I agree it’s not that good. I think people just go there because they know it.”

“I totally agree. Days like this I take my reading and sit in Central Park. It kind of makes me feel like I’m actually not in the city,” he said with a laugh. “Well, I work part time at a biochemistry while I get my PhD,” Liam explained with a small shrug. “Damn, that’s awesome. How long ago did you come here?”

“Why does what keep happening? Are you okay?”

“Hmm…strawberries…? Or raspberries?” Sage mused aloud to herself, holding a small container of each in her hands. It was late, late into the night and Sage was virtually alone in the grocery store at this time of night, so she felt more comfortable talking to herself as she deliberated, her brow furrowing in concentration. “I suppose I could get both…?”

“Strawberries,” Liam mumbled tiredly to the stranger, seemingly the only other person in the grocery store. His crazy work and school schedule got him grocery shopping at the strangest times of the night. “They last longer than raspberries, so I usually go for strawberries.”

As odd as our friendship may be, I would have to say @khxury. She’s a really good judgement-free sounding board.

“I’m so glad the weather’s getting nicer again. Reminds me of home.” Delilah happily tilted her face towards the sun. “Plus, rides on my bike are the best this time of year.”

“Oh, so am I. I mean, I can’t vouch for the bike rides, but it’s nice to have a pleasant walk to work,” he said with a smile. “Where’s home?”

“Okay, you’re right, that’s a valid point,” Liam agreed. “It really is. I mean, there could be much worse places to get stuck in a storm.”

Peter shook his head and let out a small laugh, “oh no definitely not. Usually it just lightly rains. I’ve never once felt like I would possibly die if I went outside in a normal storm” he said in a light joking tone. 

“I mean, I’ve seen some nasty storms, but, yeah, nothing that makes me fear for my life.”
