ooc | Liam & Sophie
sophiebbe:
WHAT?! A SMILE?! BE STILL MY HEART. OH MAN. ;DDD
But for reals, I could totally see the two of them metaphorically standing back-to-back, protecting each other from the TOTAL BULLSHIT OF THE CONNOGHAN SYSTEM. <3 Haha.
Which, btw, would totally mean that Sophie wouldn’t be tense at all about Liam’s desire to get out of that same system. Because she gets it. She has the exact same problem, just in the opposite order. She wants SO BADLY to work for her father, but is SERIOUSLY being forced out of it.
So I mean, she wouldn’t be down for him totally destroying this thing that she loves and wants to/was born to control, but she wouldn’t blame him in the least for wanting out of the life that was forced upon him. Just ‘cause she knows EXACTLY HOW THAT FEELS.
Also, lol about not sharing feelings, because I think both of them are like… not ~feelings people. But probably do things like punch each other in the shoulders and are like: ‘yeah, you’re all right, I guess.’ which totally probs translates to: “YOU’RE THE BEST, I’M GLAD WE’RE FRIENDS BECAUSE OTHERWISE I WOULDN’T HAVE ANYONE ELSE. K? K.”
xD I’m just so glad that Sophie is gonna like… have friends. Like maybe three of them. This is lovely.
[ liambbe ]
HAHAH that total bullshit of the Connoghan system tho?? LIKE it's basically OKAY WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE IN THIS POSITION?? OKAY LET'S GIVE IT TO THEM. (like sean, liam, sophie, & jack all want/wanted different positions in life and instead luke is like lol no not for you)
Haha, and don't worry like Liam would never destroy the ~business, even if in his ideal world they would be no crime, but he knows that there will always be someone in this position and hell, it should go to someone like the Connoghans who are actually p good ppl despite everything??? Plus, he loves Sophie ?? Like he will probs tell her that she's not horrible atp LOOK AT ALL THE LOVE. ;;DDD
Anyway, do you think we're ready to start them off IC? And should we start them at the party or before??? (I feel like Liam is gonna be almost as big of a killjoy as Jack, tbh ;DD BC LIAM DOESN'T UNDERSTAND PARTIES??? but he's probs more happy to be there than Jack, tho that's not really saying much, at all. EVEN IF JACKxMACARONS OTP 4 LIFE.
ooc | Sarah & Liam
OKKAAAYYY wow, so Liam is Sarah's partner and I'm thinking they've been working together for a couple of years now (like 2-3??) and basically even though Liam is the one who is forcing Sarah to work for the Irish mob, he actually respects her and thinks she's a good cop ??? Not that he ever says it, but he's happy she's his partner, like she gets the job done and even though she probs hates his guts, I feel like they weirdly work well together ??
make me choose: Rust Cohle or Errol Childress
Do I look dead muthafucka? Fuuuhhhh.
ooc | Liam & Sophie
COUSIIINNN. <33333
But yeah, hmm. I mean, as I’m talking with everyone about things, it seems to be that while Sophie is social and energetic and everything, she’s also very… separate from everyone else, and has been becoming more and more so over the years. Mostly through her father ostracizing her from the family business and Sophie fighting tooth and nail to get her way back in. Which totally also makes anyone else who sides with her father fair game for Sophie’s unbridled anger. (Which is part pride, part old wounds that have never really healed.)
So I could actually see where they’d bond over being kinda on the ~outskirts?
I mean, Sophie has Declan obvi, and ~sort of has Aaron on her side (though much more loyal to Jack for good reasons), and soon enough she’ll have Saoirse, but by in large, I think Sophie has been without much in the way of real friends/a support system for at least a few years now, if not longer.
I also think that Sophie really wouldn’t be opposed to the way Liam is? I think that if she cares about someone, which is pretty much a given with family, she can overlook a lot of ~being rubbed the wrong way. Which tbh, may not even be much depending on how we play them out. (Part of me is still kinda feeling Sophie out a little. So if you notice me flip-flopping on her a little, that’s why. haha.)
Okay, so I actually really like the idea of them bonding over being ~outsiders?? Like Liam has zero friends, and Sophie's only about one step up from that and even though he's 1000% content to be a loner, I do think that he'd appreciate having SOphie and OMG SHE MIGHT ACTUALLY GET HIM TO CRACK A SMILE NOW AND AGAIN.
If nothing else, he'd def be her drinking buddy at Paddy's, haha. :D
The only thing that ~might be tense between them is that Liam doesn't really want to work for the Connoghans, but he's kinda be forced to. Although, idk if he'd ever bring it up b/c he doesn't really share his feelings (even to like his one friend, haha). Still, at this point, I think he's kinda resigned himself to the fact that there will always be crime families and stuff like this going on and that it could be a hell of a lot worse than Connoghan, who is actually a decent guy and it's worth the rare innocent casualties that come from this, to have Connoghan instead of someone who is wayyyy worse, you know? So I guess he's actually cool with working with Connoghan now, he just hasn't always been.
ooc | Will & Liam
Ok, but can I just point out that the two cops’ names put together spell Will’s full name????
The bromance is unreal ;DDDDDDDDD OMG tho Will would be sooooo horrified like Liam is basically the epitome of things he hates *facepalm* Some of our relationships, man. Ok, so like idk if Will would ever actually discover that Liam’s a dirty cop and obv his own operation is on the dl but still. HAHAHAH In the mean time, maybe Liam could like let him off or…something…idek?????
HAHAHA OMGGGG. I hadn't even noticed that, but haha ~another thing that Will will love. ;DD Like, their bromace name is literally William. ;D
Hmm, i think the fact that Liam is Connoghan's nephew might actually mean that Will knows about him. Like I'm sure he's got the Connoghan family tree burned into his brain, and I'm sure that he knows that Liam is on the police payroll and probably would def keep an eye out for him to see if he's actually working for Connoghan.
And if nothing else, they could def meet at Paddy's, b/c I feel like all Liam does is work and drink, tbh???
Rust Cohle + character tropes
ooc | Will & Liam
THESE TWO ARE DESTINED TO BE BFFS FOREVER I CAN FEEL IT (not)
ooc | Liam & Sophie
COUSIN. <3 So wow, these two are soooo different, haha. Like Liam isn't very social and a total pessimist and then there's Sophie who is very social and energetic and like family dinners w/ them like what even??? Anyway, idk how they'd get along? I'm really up for any kind of relationship tbh. Like Liam doesn't really get close with most ppl, b/c he does tend to rub them the wrong way, but he's also the sort of person who can survive and be happy just as well if he's alone than if he's surrounded by friends, so it doesn't bother him. But I do think family might be an exception (idk it def was w/ his mom, and whether or not that's extended to his uncle & cousin, idk??) I guess it depends what Sophie thinks of him, tbh?
ooc | Liam & Adam
So these two are cousins, but they've probably never met?? I mean, in their ~memorable lives since Liam lived down south w/ his mom until he was much older and by then Adam had gone to the Morettis? No doubt Adam knows who he is, etc. but idk that they've ever actually talked???
Liam Thompson (37) matthew mcconcaughey relationships: Sarah Carter (partner), Luke Connoghan (uncle), Sophie Connoghan, Adam Cassidy (cousins)
Liam grew up in Alabama with his mother.
His parents had both grown up in Boston and their families had been friends.
His mother and father had a bad relationship and he was a drinker.
He would spend all of his money on alcohol and abuse his wife when he came home.
Mrs. Thompson would never divorce him, though. She was an Irish Catholic and did not believe in it.
When Liam was born, he would also turn his attentions to him.
And that’s when Mrs. Thompson had had enough. It was an accident and so the coroner’s report states, but Mrs. Thompson made the push that sent her husband tumbling down the stairs.
She left her home after that: she was haunted by her sins and could not stand to be in that house any longer, so she packed up her things and her baby and moved down south.
Liam was young and has no memories of his life in Boston.
He grew up with little - his mother never made much working as a waitress in a small town diner - but he was happy.
And he was smart and when he got a good scholarship to a school up in Massachusetts, and he met his Uncle Connoghan
He didn’t have much interaction with his Connoghan relatives through school: he’d spend the holidays with them, of course, but he worked and took on a heavy load of coursework.
It wasn’t until after he graduated and started to pursue a career in the justice system that he realized what kind of a business his Uncle really had and the sort of power he had over people in this city.
His Uncle demanded that Liam work for him, which included helping to cover up murders his men committed under his orders.
Liam was resisted at first, but he quickly learned that it’s better for everyone involved if you cooperate with Connoghan.
Liam is a damn good detective though.
He writes down everything and will keep track of even the little things. It’s the little details, he says, that tell you what happened.
He keeps to himself most of the time. Work is everything.
He doesn’t have very good people skills and his frankness often comes off as being rude and pessimistic.
He does like his partner, even if they don’t get on well since he has had to threaten her into following Connoghan’s orders.
He doesn’t bother to explain himself or his feelings to people, which is often why he rubs even the best of people the wrong way.
He doesn’t really care that much, however, he’s never had many friends and is just as happy by himself in his room full of true crime books and drinking a beer at the bar in a corner alone.
