I sometimes miss truly artistic and meaningful moments.

Like I just don’t see them until after the fact. This is tragic to me…but also a constant lesson to be learned.

Using one’s Art to create a brand for themselves isn’t as simple as it seems…but then again…it shouldn’t be hard at all.

Thinking on my Artistry today.

My mind is often all over the place when creating and I understand the purpose behind most of what I do but…just trying keep myself centered and focused in aligning ideas and concepts.

One of my fellas actually believe it’s strange for a grown man to be sitting around doing Art.

“Nigga, go play some sports or hit the gym or something. Don’t nobody want that shit.”

I replied with “Yet you’ll spend money—big money—on clothes, shoes, furnishings and cars owned by people who aren’t even in your community let alone really give a fuck about you. All that shit you buying; Gucci, Luis, Jordans, Audi and Porsche, all that shit is Art. Someone one or a group of creative people sat around and made that shit…and you trippin over a Black Man painting to give to others? THAT’S CRAZY!!!”

This is truly the world. Not all of the world but the fact that people like this truly exist. And sometimes it’s for no other reason than those close to you not wanting you to rise, grow or see success. Some people that believe you might grow beyond them will always try to downplay your potential yet still want you to believe they’re your friends. Misery wants company.

We don’t support as we should anymore—even in the midst of being a time where it’s obvious we need unity or some sense of community. It’s hard to see the lack of support from family, friends, neighbors or even coworkers. People are picky and sensitive and if some just don’t see you—identify you—as being worthy of success, recognition or just support, they just won’t…but if it’s a different homie or family member or whatever it’s just “Naw, not you, nigga. Not you. That’s my mans over there. But we good right? We good.” I’ll just never understand while continue still just doing me.

All I know…

…is to create. I get distracted a lot but my goal constantly is to create.

Often I feel like I constantly being subject to attempts of reprogramming but who and what I am at my core will always ring thru and true. I’m here to create.

Understand that once I find something to be profound and extraordinary, I get stuck in it being that way finding it very difficult to change…yet I change it anyway.

My work doesn’t need to have Black bodies to represent the stories. Some forms are just as—if not more—precious and impactful as others.

Everything that makes me is confusing and complicated—nuanced and sophisticated. Observations to experiences, these are what make us all who we are…and who we’re destined to become.

We are NOT all one.

Unfortunately this is a truth. While we must efforts to unite, our collective identities are of many different individuals agreeing to be and act as one. To be “all one” takes a conscious and crucial effort which goes beyond the natural concept of being “all one”.

My Black is NOT like that of others.

Not all “Black” people are the same. Not all People of Color are the same. Where we might share melanin and melanated variations, we are still better defined by the ideas and concepts of identity passed down and handed off thru families, communities, regions and local to expanded cultures.

I’m sorry, while I have my flaws and may have survived “the hood” and other “hood-like” environments and situations, growth has overtaken me. Growth has become MY defining factor and thru that growth comes an understanding of life and existence. Identity is a thing that can truly fuel us or anchor us down. It’s all dependent upon perspective.
